*“Waiting for Goodluck”: CSOs, Youths Storm ex-President Jonathan’s Office, Urge Him to Contest 2027 Elections*

Thousands of youths under the aegis of the Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday morning, stormed the Abuja office of ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, brandishing placards and banners with messages calling on the former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The mammoth crowd, which overflowed from Taraba Close near Tanganyika Street and spread through Farmers Market to IBB Way in Abuja, disrupted early morning traffic flow. Chanting and dancing to popular Nigerian songs, they displayed placards with various messages urging Jonathan to throw his hat into the 2027 presidential contest.

Some of the placards read: “GEJ: Nigeria is dying, save it!” “GEJ, Nigerian youths break the medicine wey dem do you.” “GEJ, if you no run, we quench.”Led by Dr. Tom Ohikere, the national president of the group, they waited for over three hours to ambush the former president, who did not show up as they may have expected.

They then decided to read their prepared speech to the media. Ohikere, a former commissioner of information in Kogi State, in his address, said: “Everywhere that we have visited in the course of our nationwide consultation over a period of six months, the clamour for his return to power to rescue our country has been loud and unmistakable.”

He said the ex-president remains the only unifying force that can reverse the impending catastrophe looming over Nigeria. Goodluck Jonathan did not show up to receive the crowd, which described themselves as ‘visitors’. They dispersed before he drove in at 1pm.

It was gathered that the former president and his handlers had no prior knowledge of the ‘visit’, which created some confusion amongst the former president’s aides. The coalition promised to return to ‘visit’ him again as many times as necessary until they hear from him. It was a peaceful but determined gathering, with demonstrators from different states chanting slogans and displaying signs appealing directly to the former president to answer the national call.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has yet been issued by Jonathan, who is famous for his saying “My ambition is not worth any blood.”

Also, the spokesperson to the former president has not publicly responded to the latest appeal.Wednesday’s demonstration adds to the growing calls appealing to Jonathan across Nigeria and the diaspora.

Over the past twelve months, several groups have publicly called on Jonathan to reconsider a return to active politics.

These include:

• The Goodluck Nigeria Movement (GNM), which recently announced plans to mobilise support nationwide to persuade Jonathan to contest.

• The Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation (a former Buhari Youth Organisation president), which has urged Jonathan to step forward as a unifying figure.

• The New Nigeria Integrity Movement (NNIM) – Middle Belt Zone, which in March 2026 highlighted Jonathan’s leadership qualities as essential for stabilising the nation.

• Diaspora-led initiatives such as the Goodluckans Movement 2027, whose spokesperson Chidinma Unigwe has publicly mandated Jonathan to contest, citing his democratic credentials and governance experience.

We have discussed this several times here.
It doesn't affect him. A Federal High Court decided that in 2022.

The difference is that that aspect of the Constitution was amended June 2018, it can't affect GEJ. Aiyedatiwa is Governor after the amendment!

The NDC by Seriake Dickson is an SPV for Goodluck Jonathan to enter the race which is a welcome development. I realistically don't see a pathway for Tinubu to return elected if the elections hold.

He is. The ticket was supposed to be Jonathan/Kwankwaso under PDP. That was when Tinubu panicked and sacked Ganduje as requested by Kwankwaso. Tinubu was supposed to have followed through with that by conceding the VP slot to Kwankwaso but he never did. Rather, he went behind Kwankwaso's back to poach Abba Kabir. That was a strategic mistake.
