Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said he would participate “in spirit” at the upcoming national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), scheduled to hold in Abuja.

El-Rufai made the remark on Monday while addressing journalists after appearing before the Kaduna State High Court, where he is currently facing charges filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Responding to a question on whether he would attend the ADC convention slated for Tuesday, the former governor said briefly, “I will be there in spirit.”

The ADC convention is expected to bring together key opposition figures as the party continues to serve as a platform for a broader political coalition.

Amid earlier uncertainty over the venue, the party’s Press Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed that the event would take place at the Rainbow Event Centre in Area 11, Abuja.

El-Rufai’s comment comes as he remains engaged in ongoing legal proceedings, which may limit his physical participation in political activities. However, his response suggests continued interest in the party’s affairs and the evolving opposition landscape.

The ADC convention is expected to play a significant role in shaping political alignments ahead of future electoral contests in Nigeria

You're on a long journey. You will tell me why people that have mismanaged public funds running into billions while in power should be allowed back in office. I know some people don't mean well for Nigeria but because they are no more feeding fat on the country 's resources, that is why they are looking for every means to snatch power by all means.
