Last week, a friend of mine who had been saving to buy a Keke called me and asked if I could help make inquiries on the price of a new keke. He has always wanted to go into the business because I used to tell him how lucrative it was,I mean ,some years ago.

So, after some time,I called a seller whom I already had his number saved on my phone. I was shocked when he told me the current price of a new keke.
"5.2m naira". Yes ,that's it. I was left speechless and I knew how my friend would be more shocked than me when I finally break the news to him.

The moment I told him,he instantly changed his mind and said he'd rather invest his money on something else . The dude ran for his life.

Now,the truth of it all is this,and that's one thing I've been wanting to write about since the day I left Keke riding. And this is something I had always wanted to let everyone know, especially those who'd be willing to go into the Keke hire purchase business.

These days, before you should consider going into the Keke hire purchase business,you really need to sit well,and consider how and what's it's all about so that you don't end up regretting in the future, just like some of us did in the past

Firstly, owning a new keke automotically makes you a target for Keke snatchers . Yes,you heard me right. The rate at which new Kekes are being stolen these days is becoming so rampant and I've been asking if there are some particles of gold hidden inside Keke which nobody is talking about. Three colleagues of mine were robbed recently and their Keke all snatched away from them.

Secondly,the increase in production of fake spare parts have so much flooded the Keke market which makes me wonder if these producers are human beings with hearts at all . I once witnessed how a brand new Keke brought out smoke from it's exhaust immediately it was test-driven

Also, before considering on venturing into Keke hire purchase business, especially if you're planning to use it for transportation,you should better start saving from the very first day you start using it. Why? Because,Keke as widely known by most of us who once ventured into it knows and believes that any Keke thats being used for transportation only has a life span of 2 years. After that,the probability that you'll be answering to that row calls of every Keke mechanic workshop in your vicinity will be high.

But then again,fuel is something you must put into consideration because that's one of the obstacles most Keke riders are facing at this moment.

Lastly,your particulars, must be up to date,to avoid being in steady loggerheads with VIOs and police officers. These are some of the things I wish I knew before I got myself entangled with the system some years ago.

Keep a maja in your Keke and try not to close very late...

And other endless tales. That's even why left Keke business because it wasn't giving you time for street gossip.


The people into the business have adjusted to the new price , high cost of fuel and all other harsh realities hence we still have many Kekes on the road. Even new ones.

People are still feeding their families and meeting responsibilities with Keke.

I don't think you're still in a good position to talk on Keke business anymore.

Your speciality now should be recharge card selling and road side phone charging. That's where you should be dishing out advise.

Although I pity people that will listen to you on that one too

Whatever knowledge you have about Keke business is rusty and useless.

In 2018 an uncle of mine bought 10 brand new keke at N5m, that is 500k per one.

I have always had the opinion that buying keke for someone to ride and pay hire purchase is lazy man's business or people who just have money sitting around somewhere not knowing what to do with it. Unless you are doing it to just help the person, there are many other things one can do with 5.2 m that will yield more profit and for a longer duration.
