Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed his willingness to step aside for Peter Obi if the ex-Anambra governor emerges the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in 2027.

During an interview on Arise News on Wednesday evening, Atiku was asked directly whether he would step aside if Obi wins the ADC presidential primary.

Atiku and Peter Obi are regarded as the front runners for ADC’s presidential ticket.

Others, such as Rabiu Kwankwaso and Rotimi Amaechi, are also believed to be in the running for the ADC ticket.

Asked if he would step down for Obi, if the former Labour Party presidential candidate gets the ADC ticket, Atiku said, “Yes, I will step aside for any winner.”

Asked if “any winner includes Peter Obi”, Atiku said, “Of course, if he is a contender, why not?”

Further asked if it would not be difficult for him to do so since Obi was his vice presidential running mate, Atiku said, “What is difficult there? It is democracy. It is either you go through consensus or you go through election. You emerge through consensus or emerge through the electoral process.”

You will step aside for him if he wins…I don’t understand,does it mean you are ahead of him already?.all the contestants are side by side,only the person who gets the ticket steps ahead.
One thing I know for sure is that ,if this man is not given the ticket he will will work against the person that emerges,someone should not this.
It still makes more sense saying he will step aside if Obi wins,but our obidents will be like Obi or nothing as if Obi has something before.

Unfortunately there was an unwritten constitution dated back to the era of the first military bloody coup that a particular region will never become president in Nigeria again. It's not a curse neither a prayer but that the fact. They had their chance but misused it by suppressing other tribes and ethnic groups in Nigeria. So the fear of what they did in the past still ring in many people memories.

There is no chance Obi will be ADC candidate. Non whatsoever . Atiku is only saying this as someone who owns the ADC structure and has such a stranglehold on the party to the extend he is 100% sure the Presidential ticket is his.

He is playing politics by trying to sound gracious and conciliatory whereas the ADC flagbearer (Atiku) is known today to all those in the inner caucus of the party which does not include naive Obidients who still believe in miracles and view Obi an 'alagbara'.

do you blame the delegates, everyone want to cash out and this is the time because they know ADC will lose the 2027 presidential election whether they field Atiku, Obi or even Trump. And moreover, the primary election is either through direct or consensus. Atiku has the northern population through direct primary and dollars population through consensus grin

The only politician that outsmarted him and beat him silly with all his dollars is Tinubu during the APC primary election in 2014 and now Tinubu is the president grin
