Before Tinubu, before Fashola, there was a man many Lagosians believed was the rightful governor of Lagos State. His name was Engineer Anthony Olufunsho Williams — and for 17 years, he played his part in building Lagos State.

When he eventually entered politics, his political group had strong grassroots support that his governorship was considered a done deal. He contested the AD gubernatorial primary in 1998 and secured the initial victory based on delegate votes. Party elders (the Afenifere), however, persuaded him to give up the ticket for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to legend, he stepped aside on the basis of an agreement between him and Tinubu— the details of which were never fully disclosed. Tinubu did not honour the agreement, and for this reason Williams defected to the PDP in 2001 to compete again for governor.

On the morning of July 27, 2006, Funsho Williams was found in his Dolphin Estate home in Ikoyi — hands tied, face down in a pool of blood, strangled to death. He was 57 years old and on the verge of competing for Lagos governor once again.

High profile people were arrested the following day — his campaign manager, Musiliu Obanikoro, and Senator Kingsley Ogunlewe. Six suspects eventually stood trial, but in 2014, all six were acquitted (set free).

Nearly 20 years later, nobody has been convicted. The man who built Lagos's roads never got to govern them — and the full truth of who took his life remains unanswered.

The question remains, who did it? Who gave the order? Who felt threatened by Funsho Williams?

Funsho Williams' death have always been known to be a PDP internal affair with Bode George, Seye Ogunlewe and a couple of them as suspects.

However, people who weren't in Lagos back then are tagging Tinubu to the case just cuz they're embittered that he won fair and square against their prediction and tactics.

He deserves whatever rubbish they throw at him because he enabled them in the first place. Nobody would've tried this with Wike or Bode George or other serious people

It was such a tragic event,he was the governor Lagos never had.
Evil men whom never want good for the people of Lagos,those whom want to keep the populace in perpetual servitude,may have been responsible for his death.

That Political Assassination made me lose all hope in NPF. Quite sad that such a deadly crime could boldly be committed so close to Ijeh Police Post - a stone throw from the engineer's duplex!
