PRESS STATEMENT

*Adelabu Briefs President Tinubu on Power Sector Reforms, Presents NIEP–SIP, Secures Consent for Governorship Aspiration*

The Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, on Tuesday met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he presented a comprehensive report on his stewardship of the power sector over the past two and a half years.

During the meeting, the Minister outlined key milestones recorded under his leadership, including efforts to stabilise electricity generation, strengthen transmission capacity, and implement reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and service delivery across the power sector value chain. A central highlight of the engagement was the presentation of the National Integrated Electricity Policy (NIEP) and its accompanying Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) as well as the Medium-Long Term Integrated Resource Plan for the Power Sector to guide Succession and Sustainability.

The NIEP is a comprehensive policy framework designed to guide the sustainable development of Nigeria’s electricity sector. It provides a long-term roadmap for achieving energy security, expanding electricity access, integrating renewable energy, and building a more resilient and efficient power sector. The Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) serves as the operational blueprint for the NIEP, detailing specific actions, timelines, and institutional responsibilities required to translate policy objectives into measurable outcomes. The SIP prioritises critical interventions across generation, transmission, and distribution, while also addressing regulatory reforms, investment mobilisation, human capacity and local content development within the sector.

President Tinubu commended the Minister for his dedication and the progress recorded, particularly in laying a strong policy foundation for the transformation of the power sector. The President also granted his consent and blessing for the Minister to pursue his governorship ambition.

In view of this development, Chief Adebayo Adelabu is expected to resign his position as Minister of Power in the coming days. The timing of his anticipated resignation reflects his commitment to addressing key sectoral challenges and ensuring continuity in ongoing reforms prior to exiting office. Notably, this includes efforts to stabilise the sector following recent declines in power generation due to gas supply constraints to power plants, ongoing pipeline repairs, and outstanding obligations to gas suppliers, as well as the need to secure the President’s approval for his intended resignation and gubernatorial aspiration in Oyo State.

The Minister expressed profound appreciation to the President for his steadfast support and reaffirmed his commitment to the advancement of Nigeria’s power sector and overall national development.

My Oyo people, at this time, I am so worried about you people.

Imagine the minister of darkness still aspiring to be governor of a state in Nigeria upon how he failed glaringly as a minister.

Oriyomi on his own was busy entertaining Muslim leaders talking about Muhammad when he should be discussing about governance.

Infact, majority of the candidates showing Interest in the Oyo Guber are more or less religion fanatics

Oyo state lately, religiously, they are not tolerant, politically they are not getting it right, traditionally, pending problem.

Igboho was threatening, Saheed Osupa also threatened just because of politics

Alaafin of Oyo is not currently recognized in reasonable part of Yoruba land , it's not out of disrespectful but because the King dont have an ancestral crown. The authority to speak is questionable.

Abeg, make una no go astray oo. The Yoruba's are counting on you people to get your act right

You just never can tell. In his quest to seek power in oyo (or remove power from oyo.. grin), he might end up leaving 'power' for the rest of the country and so a blessing in disguise! cheesy

Whether he gets the guber ticket or not is isn’t our business. We are glad that he is at least resigning. His sojourn in the ministry of power is nothing to write home about.

So, if this guy wasn't resigning because of his governorship ambition, he would have still remained Power Minister??

Tinubu isn't only a failure in the area of security and economy, he is also a failure in identifying a non-performing cabinet member

Oyo politicians have always seeks the help of these so called spiritualist before going into any political contest.
Even minister of darkness was once scammed by one prophet like that with the purchase of 3000 trumpets for the arc-angels to release their blessings.
Anyways, I wish them luck! May the high spender wins

If all the candidates do not agree to consensus, then they will have to go for a direct primary election.

Base on the new electoral laws, a consensus candidate can't be imposed again

The man made a mistake by accepting the power -phcn portfolio. He should have negotiated a better ministry to boost his profile....I will blame Tinubu for this error, he know what happened to his friend late Bola Ige before he moved to head the justice ministry. Best of luck Adebayo, I pray God will clear you from the Nepa peculiar mess on you

Any right thinking person that votes this man called Bayo Adelabu Penkelemesi into a higher role, not to talk of Governor is bewitched.

His failure in the Power sector, is deserving of a thesis with topic "Monumental Failure on a large scale".

Let him resign please, Good riddance.

What is that achievement this man will use as a campaign bragging right? What has he achieved as a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria? This is a prove that the current APC administration at the center aren't concerned about performance, they're only after sharing the national cake among themselves, sidelining the ordinary citizens in the process.

He should be Sacked, Not Resign.
This Power Minister has NOT PERFORMED TO THE EXPECTATIONS OF NIGERIANS:
• How Many Transformers were Incurred, During his Years in Office?
• How many Were Distributed and Where ( States and Areas) -Were they distributed?
• How many Prepaid-Metres Were Purchased during this Minister?
- Who Did they give them to ?
- Which DISCOS got What and at what Price?
- Why Did We have Consistent Darkness, instead of light 🚨 🕯️,in Nigeria ( as I'm writing now,no light here for many, days and you only have 3-to 4 -hours light for 24- hours,is that not too Shameful?
• The EFCC Should Be Mandated to Check ACCOUNTS and Possessions Of :
-ALL MINISTERS AND GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA,As Many Have hidden Agenda in their Assets Declaration FORMS.
• FOR, NIGERIANS NEEDS TO KNOW WHAT WAS THEIR ACCOUNTS Like,
- BEFORE AND AFTER -LEAVING THE GOVT , Including DEPARTMENTS/ AGENCIES- like NNPC,Dept of Poverty Alleviation Officials, etc.
• It's Unfortunately we don't know When those Ruling us- the Officials -have Declaration Of Assets in Nigeria.
- Such Serious Matters have been glossed over because of Greed ,Manipulation and Corruption in high Places.
