Adebayo Adelabu, the minister of power, says Nigerians will start witnessing improved electricity supply between six months and one year.

Adelabu was one of the 45 ministers inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on Monday.

Speaking with reporters on Friday at the Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, Adelabu acknowledged that the task ahead may be daunting but not insurmountable.

“We know it is not something that is achievable overnight but we believe that once the foundation is laid, others can also build on it,” he said.

“I can tell you that between six months and one year, we will start seeing improvements in the power sector.

“Within the next six months, there would be major addition to the national grid, in terms of hydropower plant, that is the Zungeru 700mw in Niger state that is about to be completed.

“This will be the biggest one in sub-Saharan Africa when completed.

“The Kainji dam that we all grew up to know, supplies about 460mw, Shiroro dam supplies about 520mw.

“I will do everything to ensure that Zungeru power plant is inaugurated and subsequently add 700mw to the national grid.

“This is a new era and I will use everything that God has given me to ensure that we have stable power supply in the country.”

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and largest economy, has grappled with erratic power supply since independence in 1960.

Successive administrations have been unable to curb the perennial power cuts that have stymied industrial development and economic growth.

We are already enjoying far improved and stable electricity here in Lagos! This is the best time to invest in Nigeria.

Invest in Lagos and other neighbouring Yoruba SW states today and our land will bless you and your investment for as long as you don't involve in our local politics and don't hate your Yoruba host. God bless Nigeria for ever!Check my signature for free stuffs!

Nothing to get excited here, until we start seeing the improved power supply.

This man - Adelabu is only ranting because he fails to understand that our power problem is beyond generation but transmission and distribution. What is the excess of generating power in quantum while transmission lines lack the capacity to convey it to the end users. The late Chief Bola Ige and Babatunde Fashola once boost of achieving this feat but ended up disappointing Nigerians. We need Electrical Engineers like myself to resolve our power issues. Most of these appointed ministers lack the capacity to understand how power generation, transmission and distribution network works and as such end up achieving nothing unless they gather a sound Engineering team who will help build a roadmap to power sustainability with strong policy implementation mechanism in place.

I doubt we would have improved power supply until we are generating 50000mw tops.

You only ranted above. Are you aware states now have the power to generate their own electricity?

Transmission is the major issue.
Thanks for speaking my mind.
They have to stop talking what they don't understand deeply.

They know what to do but they don't want to lose out of it. They should unbundle the power sector like they did to telecommunications and see how it will experience a turn around but they don't want to do that yet.

See the current Discos, they are not even making money sef because of so many unmetered customers and for some of us that pay sef we don't even have the light. We are only paying for darkness

An Adelabu as minister of power won't do shit. We don't need any government intervention any where else, just fix power and we are good to go

This is possible.

Igbos will not be happy with this again.

They will call it propaganda.

All the enemies of Nigeria shall be put to shame.

grin in Lil wayne voice "same old shxt, just a different toilet, as long as it's coming out that azz... It smells"

Just like yesterday one Buhari minister said there were going to fix power problem in 6 months and we were going to enjoyed 24hrs power.... Guess where we are now?

They said PDP destroyed Nigeria in 16 years, APC did it in less than 4 years grin

Never seen government so comfortable in lies to the extent they've started believing in their own lies.

APC fans are either brain dead or they're completely out of touch with reality.

Everytime is we will
Expect
We will
Expect
We will

And when it gets to the time they come with excuses

And they keep wondering why Nigerians behave the way they behave

When you dash people's hope. You take everything from them

You got it...but I think the main issue is upgrading transmission costs....money.

Exactly my point.
They are unable to distribute even the small one generated.
Distribution companies are just collecting people's money and adding no value
Transformers are old and insufficient. Transmission lines are outdated. No prepaid meters. People are just paying for darkness.
