Back in 2022/23, during the campaign run up to the 2023 elections, Peter Obi traveled to Egypt to study how they solved their power crisis, a fix so successful they now run a surplus. He wanted to see if that model could work for Nigeria. What did he get for it? Attacks. APC supporters mocked him, insisting the Buhari led APC government had already signed a deal with the same Siemens that handled Egypt’s turnaround. Photos of transformers circulated. “It’s done,” they said. “Obi is late.” Fast forward to 2026. Four years have passed. Another election cycle is here. APC is still in power. for context, the deal was signed in 2018 to add 25,000MW to our electricity generation. It's been 8yrs since that deal was signed. So, where is the Siemens deal? Where is the electricity? Where are the transformers we were shown back then? Where is the megawatt increase Nigerians were promised under the Presidential Power Initiative with Siemens? If the deal was real and executed, why are we still battling the same grid collapses and poor supply? If it failed, why the silence? We can’t pretend this is not a question worth asking. Before we start debating 2027, Nigerians deserve an account of the last promises made. To the APC supporters and defenders who told us the Siemens deal was already "settled" in 2022: where is it? Power is not propaganda. It’s either in your sockets or it is not. And right now, the only thing Nigerians can see clearly is darkness. Where is the Siemens deal? Where is the electricity? |

Once Obi goes to Egypt again to understudy their power revolution, APC will restart the Siemens deal propaganda. Propaganda does not give light, does not build roads and will never win the insecurity war. |

The $2.3 billion Siemens-Nigeria Power Deal (Presidential Power Initiative - PPI) is active and in its second phase as of early 2026, aimed at modernizing Nigeria's power grid and improving reliability. Following a period of stagnation, the project was revived by President Tinubu's administration. It has successfully delivered and commissioned multiple mobile substations and transformers, yielding roughly 984 MW in additional capacity. The overall target is to reach 25,000 MW with projects ongoing to reduce grid outages. Key status updates include: Revival and Status: The partnership was stalled but was revived and accelerated, with, as of early 2026, the project is moving forward under President Tinubu, having seen increased momentum. Infrastructure Progress: Siemens has delivered and installed 132/33 KV mobile substations and several 75/100 MVA and 60/66 MVA transformers nationwide. Phase 2 Goals: The project is currently focused on upgrading seven lines and installing 10 transmission lines covering 554 km to boost capacity to 7,140 MW. . Key Focus: The deal seeks to mitigate grid failure, increase electricity access, and upgrade key transmission substations. Timeline: The project timeline was extended, with some critical project components (substations) expected to be finalized around 2026. |

OredoPikin:Since you asked a question hees what I found out about the deal. The Siemens Nigeria power deal is one of Nigeria’s biggest electricity reform plans—but the honest answer is: 👉 It has been slow, partly delayed, but now moving again (not fully successful yet). Let me break it down clearly. 🔌 What the Siemens deal was supposed to do Signed around 2018–2019 between Nigeria and Germany Worth about $2.3 billion Goal: fix Nigeria’s transmission + distribution (not just generation) Targets: 7,000 MW → short term 11,000 MW → medium term 25,000 MW → long term Majorwaves Energy Report +1 👉 At the time, Nigeria was producing only about 4,000 MW, so this was a big upgrade plan. ⚠️ What actually happened (Reality) 1. It basically stalled for years After it started, the project lost momentum Reasons: Death of key government coordinator COVID-19 disruptions Bureaucracy & funding issues By around 2021–2023, very little real progress happened Punch Newspapers +1 👉 So early targets (7,000 MW by 2021, etc.) were missed completely. 2. It was revived recently Under President Bola Tinubu Government re-signed/accelerated the agreement with Germany Project is now active again and moving forward Punch Newspapers +1 ⚙️ What has been achieved so far Some real progress (but still early stage): Delivery of transformers & mobile substations ✔️ About 984 MW transmission capacity added ✔️ State House Abuja Installation of equipment across locations like Lagos, Ogun, Oyo ✔️ FGN Power Company Phase 1 officially ongoing (grid upgrade, substations) ✔️ Punch Newspapers 👉 Current Phase 1 aims to: Strengthen the grid Add up to ~7,000 MW capacity potential Punch Newspapers ⏳ Current status (2026) Project is NOT completed Still in Phase 1 Some substations expected to finish by end of 2026 Advisors Reports Government admits progress is “below expectation” TheCable ⚖️ Final verdict ✅ Positives Not dead anymore (revived) Infrastructure upgrades ongoing Some improvement in transmission capacity ❌ Negatives Missed original deadlines badly Impact not yet strongly felt by most Nigerians Still far from 24/7 stable electricity 🧠 Bottom line 👉 The Siemens deal is a good plan on paper 👉 But in reality: Started badly (stalled) Now progressing slowly Still far from delivering full results |

Flangelo12:That's how you know what happened to the project and if it's working as intended. You attempted to give the OP information, then complete it. The OP even put it in bold so you can see it clearly 👇 for context, the deal was signed in 2018 to add 25,000MW to our electricity generation. It's been 8yrs since that deal was signed. |
