AlphaTaikun:
If your "father" Nnebisi is of Igala paternal parentage, and your "mother" (Nnebisi's biological mother) is from Nteje on the other side of River Niger, then Asaba folks are paternally of Igala ethnic roots. Nnebisi even got married to an Igala woman. Most Nigerian ethnic groups (with the exception of the Ijaws) are patrilineal hence you folks should identify as Igala. The nearby communities of Ebu, Illah, Okpanam, etc, also have Igala roots based off of my several decades of knowledge of Nigerian history as a veteran of global geopolitical dynamics and advanced history. Period.

It is what it is. We speak igbo but our masquerades resemble igala masquerades. Asaba and Okpanam are bent towards Igbo while Ebu and illah are closer to igala.

It's impressive that you are a REAL Asaba indigene as it's ALWAYS good to get information from the real folks on the ground and NOT impostors claiming to be from Asaba or any other Anioma town when infact they are impostors with secessionist agenda from the East of River Niger. These youngsters being sponsored by Ned Nwoko on YouTube and other online platforms even boldly insulted the current Asagba of Asaba and the Dein of Agbor just because of their resistance to having any future Anioma State located in the S/East due largely to the multiple ancestral and ethnic origins of Anioma people.

Indeed, what you wrote up there with reference to Asaba and Okpanam about your masquerades right up to Ebu and Illah being Igala masquerades called "Egwugwu" which in standard Yoruba language is spelled "Egungun" hence Igala language is classified as a Yoruboid language (about 65% of Igala language is mutually intelligible with Yoruba language and derived from Yoruba language with Igalas having part Yoruba ancestries with other ethnic fusions from the Wukari area, Edo, etc, as clearly stated by the late Attah Michael Ameh Oboni of Igalaland in a Sunday Punch newspaper interview in 2017. The remaining percentage of Igala language is largely of Idoma ethnic origin).

The Attah Michael Ameh Oboni stated that Igala is a fusion of migrants from Wukari who moved along the banks of River Benue centuries back then FUSED with a significant number of Yorubas and Edo folks who they met around the confluence of River Niger and the Idah area. Wukari was founded circa 1598 according to a historical account so we can assume that this migration from Wukari in modern Taraba State to the Idah area is within the last 500 years.

I will get further questions and insights about Asaba people and the centuries of migrations into Asaba later on BUT I appreciate your succinct and intelligent feedback here.

Lol. Come and add us to south east then. Lol.

You’re childish to think that is the right decision. Igbanke in Edo speaks Igbo, but does that necessitate they should be added to the south east? No!

First and foremost, we have not forgotten the Asaba massacre caused by the greed of the easterners. Secondly, inferiority complex through marginalization has eaten deep into the Igbo from the south east.

I won’t want my kids growing up and always feeling cheated or having their mentality.
I can see you are aloof with facts.
The Nigerian Army was responsble for the Asaba Massacre, which Murtala paid for with his life

Lol. I’d love to hear you say this now. Ned and his dreams of Zoning is to the south east has been buried permanently. 4k to 3 votes lol.
