The claim by Olanipekun Olukoyede highlights a serious concern, but the figure should be carefully examined to avoid overgeneralization. While cybercrime among students is real, it is driven by factors like unemployment, peer pressure, and weak value systems. Institutions and society also share responsibility due to poor oversight and the glorification of quick wealth. Going forward, beyond enforcement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, there should be stronger moral reorientation, better opportunities for youths, and improved university accountability systems. |

That's a symptom of far bigger and deeper Nigerian societal rot...! My question remains: What exactly is making the youths do cybercrimes today that didn't make their fathers and uncles do the same crimes when they were youths?!! Not trying to make excuses for anyone here... Just saying that constantly addressing only the symptoms of an illness won't cure it. |
