I drive toyota corolla 2003. For about 8 months now when I park my car overnight, kick starting it in the morning makes it crank dry sound like there is no oil in the engine, and this cranky sound last for just a second before the sound normalizes. Now its begining to crank not only in the morning, but any time i park it for about 5 hours. What could be the cause of this my people pls?

Are you sure you are not misusing the word “crank” ? Because from your explanation the noise seems to come after the engine has started then the sound goes away after a split second. |

Just a sec. That shouldn't be much of a problem |

Your Camshaft is worn out. It's about 30k Get it replaced, the noise will automatically stop |

| Re: My Car Cranks Dry For 1 Second After Being Parked For Hours by koko3: 8:07pm On Apr 28 |
It's normal for a car to crank when you start it first in the day. This is because before the oil pump supply oil to the camshaft in the top cylinder. However, if the sound persist, just change the camshaft. It's between 15k - 20k |

izaac23:Its obviously a cold start-related issue since it only happens if uve parked ur car for nearly half a day or more.. Could be the VVT-i Actuator… once your car sits for hours, o, there is a short moment of metal-on-metal contact until oil pressure builds Mayb u should switch to original extended performance oil like mobil-1… |

Camshaft is faulty. Not a big problem for now. The engine will need to come down to replace the camshaft. Don’t bother yourself about it if the noise is manageable. I drove mine for 5yrs with the sound. |

Your car just hates rest 😄 The best solution is constant use. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the car. |

Change your windshield. It’s not in line with the frame of your car. |

If you have seen a Check Engine light on the car, an OBD sensor can tell you whats wrong with it. Based on the information you provided 1. It could be a faulty Camshaft Sensor 2. Faulty fuel pump. Take it to a qualified mechanic shop for proper diagnosis, else you will end up confused with the myriad of information you gather here on nairaland. Someone here may even advise you to sell the car and buy a new steering wheel with the money 😂. You can never tell when people are serious here. |

Ten06:Thats exactly what he's trying to explain... its called "cool start"... Check and scan if there is an engine check light on. What oil do you use for the car and how long have you being using this oil viscosity for the car? Corolla 2003 engine, if this engine has never been changed b4 and this is the first time its giving this very sign, the users really tried, the corolla engine is not built to last for more than 350k miles ODO METERS, if your original milage is above or up to this amount and still running then count yourself lucky. Since this is the only issue youve abiut the engine, my brother you're safe. Safe money from now to 6months, sell off this Corolla, add money to buy another one. Thank me later |

The problem most likely to be the oil pump. You need to get it check, am assuming it faulty. I'll advise if you are going to change the oil pump, it better you change the oil as well for optimum results. ✌️ Make sure you take your car to a good service center for this o |

Old vehicles from the 1980 had a choke. Choke allows oil to flow into the crankcase before starting. My first car was my dad's Mitsubishi gallant. So.. |

Every Toyota that has VVTI may encounter this issue. The issue is primarily the VVT actuator, what happens first is for you to check if the actuator sensor is working, secondly ensure that you use original oil preferably mobile 2000. I encountered the same issue and found out my actuator was bad. I replaced it which cost 12,000 and it stopped. 4 years later driving a 2011 Camry I encountered similar issue. This time it wasn't the VVT actuator. Watch this video and thank me later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwJ5BBHb9W4?si=GJQ5ykumTOdqci0j |
