God protects His own people. Soldiers are for national defense of all law abiding people including children of God in a nation.

If evil attacks you, God will protect you. If government attacks you as in the case if Paul, God will protect you. But God's order is for nation leaders to bear the sword for the defense of the nation and for punishment of crimes

The reasons for which some early Christians avoided military service is different from yours. They avoided because they didn't want to be part of emperor worship, indiscriminate bloodshed (the emperor can just send you to go and kill anybody), oath of allegiance to the emperor as a deity, etc. The reasons were not because they considered national defense unscriptural.

The apostles didn't make any doctrine of it. So, some joined, some didn't. Those who didn't join had reasons different from yours. In the absence of those reasons, they'll join.
