elochukwud9:This used to happen to my RX300 anytime I remove battery terminal. It would take like 45mins for the ecu to relearn and behave normal. It stopped after I changed the IACV sensor. I am not saying this is your problem. Just do as advised. I am just sharing a thought. |

My car was misfiring before. So I scanned all and error code signified I needed to change all coils which I have done. It stopped and has started again. Scanned it but no code.... Decided to change all plugs and service d nozzle. It was good but after 2 days it was back to misfiring again . I drive a Toyota Camry 2010 4 plug |

cyif2003:Good morning sir. Vehicle: Toyota Camry 2010 (4-cylinder) Concern: Repeated engine misfire despite replacing coils, spark plugs, and servicing injectors Let’s address this properly before more parts are replaced unnecessarily. • Professional Diagnostic Insight From your explanation: • Initial scan showed misfire → coils replaced • Misfire stopped briefly, then returned • Spark plugs replaced → temporary improvement • Injectors serviced → still came back after 2 days • Currently misfiring again with no active fault codes • This clearly indicates: The issue is not simply ignition parts, but an underlying fault causing intermittent misfire. * Important Observation When a vehicle: • Responds temporarily after part replacement • Then misfire returns shortly after It usually means: • The root cause was not addressed Also, misfires can still occur without active fault codes, especially if: • The misfire is intermittent • It hasn’t crossed ECU threshold for logging * Likely Causes (Based on Your Case) 1. Wiring Harness / Coil Signal Issue • Damaged or weak wiring to ignition coils • Intermittent power or ground loss 2. Fuel Injector Fault (Even After Servicing) • One or more injectors may still be faulty • Servicing does not always restore proper spray pattern 3. Vacuum Leak / Air Intake Issue • Unmetered air entering engine • Causes lean misfire without always triggering codes 4. Low Compression on One Cylinder • Valve or piston issue • Can cause persistent misfire regardless of new parts 5. ECU / Sensor Signal Inconsistency • Crankshaft or camshaft sensor irregular signal • Causes timing-related misfire * What Should Be Checked Next (Very Important) Instead of replacing more parts, carry out: 1. Cylinder-by-Cylinder Misfire Analysis • Identify which cylinder is misfiring 2. Coil Wiring & Connector Test • Check voltage supply and grounding 3. Injector Balance Test • Confirm proper fuel delivery per cylinder 4. Compression Test (Critical) • Rule out internal engine issue 5. Smoke Test for Vacuum Leaks 6. Live Data Scan (Not Just Codes) Check: • Misfire counters • Fuel trims • Sensor readings Do NOT Do This • Do NOT keep replacing coils again • Do NOT assume “no code = no problem” • Do NOT rely only on injector servicing • Do NOT continue trial-and-error repairs Professional Insight Your case is a classic intermittent misfire scenario, where: • Parts have been changed • But system diagnosis has not been properly done Misfire that keeps returning after repairs is usually caused by: • Electrical inconsistency • Fuel imbalance • Or mechanical (compression) issue Until this is properly tested, the problem will continue. Ryan Automotive Limited Recommendation What you need now is a structured engine diagnostic process, not more part replacement. Focus on: • Identifying the exact misfiring cylinder • Verifying spark, fuel, and compression on that cylinder • Confirming wiring and sensor integrity If you are able to bring the vehicle down, Ryan Automotive Limited performs advanced misfire diagnostics, live data analysis, and cylinder performance testing to accurately trace and resolve issues like this. This approach saves you from unnecessary expenses and repeated repairs. Precision • Transparency • Excellence Ryan Automotive Limited |

Can someone recommend a good mechanic that I can rely on to do fixes on cars I would be importing into Nigeria. They would vary from Japanese to German cars, so if you can recommend based on what each is good at, would be better. |

| Re: Tell Us Your Car Faults. Let's Assess And Fix Them by lyort: 6:32pm On May 06 |
cyif2003:You may have to visit another technician to do an all round check. The problem may be more of electrical fault than components failure. That there're error codes indicating ignition coil malfunction or engine misfires doesn't actually mean the coils are bad. Even waste spark ignition systems will throw a multiple random misfire code if an injector nozzle is not spitting enough fuel into the cylinder and causing the engine to misfire and stall and this drop in engine rpm is picked up by the crank sensor. So visit another technician. |

Pls house, my honda pilot 2006, at cold start the temp moves from cold to High immediately. After scanning it show p0118 code, either i plug or unplug the ect sensor the guage stays High. |
| Re: Tell Us Your Car Faults. Let's Assess And Fix Them by RyanAutomotive: 11:57am On May 08 |
comfortmsurshim:Good morning sir. Vehicle: Honda Pilot 2006 Concern: Temperature gauge jumps to HIGH immediately at cold start + DTC P0118 (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit High Input) Let’s address this properly before any unnecessary overheating diagnosis or engine work is carried out. * Professional Diagnostic Insight From your description: • At cold start, temperature gauge immediately reads HOT/HIGH • Scan shows P0118 code • Plugging or unplugging ECT sensor does not change gauge reading * This clearly indicates the issue is not actual engine overheating, but an electrical signal problem from the ECT sensor circuit. * Important Observation A real overheating engine would show: • Gradual temperature rise • Cooling fan activation • Physical heat symptoms But in your case: * The gauge goes HIGH immediately from cold start This confirms: * The ECU or cluster is receiving a false high temperature signal * What P0118 Means P0118 = Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit High Input In simple terms: • The ECU is seeing abnormally high voltage from the ECT sensor circuit • This makes the system assume the engine is already overheating * Likely Causes (Based on Your Symptoms) 1. Faulty ECT Sensor (Most Common) • Sensor stuck or internally shorted • Sends incorrect high temperature signal 2. Wiring Harness Fault (Very Important in Your Case) • Short to power in signal wire • Damaged insulation or melted wiring near engine block 3. Bad Connector / Corrosion at Sensor Plug • Poor contact causing incorrect voltage reading 4. ECU Signal Interpretation Fault (Less Common) • Rare, but possible if wiring checks out * Key Diagnostic Clue in Your Case You mentioned: * Even when the ECT sensor is plugged or unplugged, the gauge still stays HIGH This is very important and suggests: * Possible short circuit in the wiring harness or signal line stuck at high voltage * What Should Be Checked Now Before replacing parts blindly: 1. Inspect ECT Sensor Wiring Harness • Look for shorted or exposed wires • Check routing near hot engine areas 2. Test Sensor Voltage Signal • Confirm if ECU is receiving correct reference voltage 3. Replace ECT Sensor (If wiring is confirmed OK) • Use OEM-spec sensor only 4. Check ECU Input Signal Line • Ensure no short to battery voltage 5. Scan Live Data Temperature Reading • Compare actual engine temp vs ECU reading * Do NOT Do This • Do NOT assume engine is overheating and open cooling system unnecessarily • Do NOT bypass sensor permanently • Do NOT replace radiator or thermostat yet • Do NOT continue driving aggressively until resolved * Professional Insight Your engine is most likely NOT overheating physically. Instead, the ECU is being misled by a faulty temperature signal, which can also affect: • Fuel injection timing • Fan operation • Engine performance If left unresolved, it may cause rich fuel mixture and poor fuel economy, even though the engine is mechanically fine. 🏢 Ryan Automotive Limited Recommendation The correct approach is a structured electrical diagnosis of the ECT circuit, focusing on: • Sensor testing • Wiring continuity check • ECU signal verification Once the correct fault point is identified, the issue is usually resolved without major engine work. If you are able to bring the vehicle down, Ryan Automotive Limited carries out professional cooling system diagnostics and electrical signal analysis to accurately resolve issues like this.
