Army confirms arrest of social critic, Justice Crack; accuses him of inciting soldiers to create discontent within the system

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of social critic, Justice Crack.

In a statement released on Saturday, May 2, the Army said he was arrested following the video he made about the type of food soldiers are being fed. The statement mentioned that the chats Justice Crack was having with the soldiers who complained to him showed he was trying to incite soldiers to create discontent within the system

‘’CLARIFICATION ON THE ARREST OF JUSTICE MARK CHIDIEBERE (JUSTICE CRACK)

The attention of the Nigerian Army was drawn to the complaint made by some soldiers regarding their feeding and other matters relating to their welfare as posted on social media by a blogger/social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere (Justice Crack).

While the matter is being investigated for breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and an attempt to misinform the public, preliminary report reveals that the soldiers discussed wide range of issues with Justice Chidiebere who seemed to be inciting soldiers to create discontent within the system. An example was a chat bothering on subversion which Chidiebere had with the soldiers. It is important to state that a situation where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion has far-reaching implications on discipline and national security.

Hence, Justice Chidiebere was picked by the Nigerian Army alongside the soldiers for investigation. While the soldiers remain in own custody, Chidiebere has been handed over to the relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Nigerian Army remains committed to the rule of law and will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served. We will continue to act within the ambits of the law in safeguarding our sovereignty.

Discontent must not be allowed to fester in our armed forces regardless of any conditions our gallant officers are serving under

Instead of addressing the issues causing discontent, we must prosecute the messenger who simply highlighted the issue.....

Yes, we must also close our eyes to the possibilty that it is this discontent and lack that makes soldiers abandon their positions and commanding officers during the heat of battle, leading to the recent surge of senior commanding officers' deaths...

Only thing we must know is that general discontent in the army leads to coup-de-tat and a disturbance in the comfortability of the army top brass..and that must never be allowed to happen..Our democracy and the comfort of the army top brass is sacrosanct, even at the expense of these gallant men....

The Army has no power to arrest a civilian. At least, not when there's no declared state of emergency/war. They should have reported him to the police or DSS.

Including the torture and inhumane treatment on military personnels, no one should talk right? Insane country

Useless and pathetic army. An incompetent assembly of boy scouts. This is the only thing they are good at. It has been years now and they still can't find Bello Turji.

When the family of a US soldier posted the picture of the poor feeding conditions of US soldiers in Iraq, the pentagon quickly addressed it by providing the soldiers with high quality meals and assuring the American public that US soldiers on deployment do not suffer deprivation. They didn't arrest the family neither did they go after their son in the army. They took responsibility and addressed the situation quickly. That is a competent military.

These noise makers that for over 14 years cannot tackle Boko Haram never cease the opportunity to flex their power on civilians. When has the Nigerian army ever provided proof that its men are well fed and taken care of? When? If they had done so at anytime, this matter won't keep coming up.

Why not provide better welfare and improved standards of living among the Army, it is cheaper to improve on their welfare than punishing them for not being satisfied with what they get.

If someone breaks the law, proper government agency should be responsible for arrest or prosecution. Must we do everything like barbarian
