| How I Almost Lost My Phone To A Thief by jmoore(op): 7:38pm On May 10 |
Today was our town union meeting, so I entered a keke to drop me at Ariaria junction before I would enter another drop to Ngwa road by east. Two passengers were already seated at the back of the keke when I entered. I noticed the man sitting in the middle adjusted and sat diagonally but I didn't read any meaning to it. When I reached Ariaria junction, I came out from the keke. My habit has always been to check my pockets whenever I am leaving any place to be sure my phone is not missing. I touched my left pocket where the phone was and felt it was empty. The keke was almost driving away when I quickly jumped in and saw my phone very close to that man in the middle. He shouted something like 'he forgot his phone Jesus Jesus'. I picked up my phone and left. I am pretty sure that man was a thief. I just didn't want to create a scene cos I was late for the meeting. If I didn't act on time, I won't see my phone again.

jmoore:You didn’t want to create a scene do you care about their future victims? You don’t have to wear capes to bring people to justice. |

jmoore:You do not sound sure enough, it seems to me. I lost my brand new Motorola in a maruwa once. I too checked my pocket and chased down the maruwa, but I must have not noticed another one pass and ended up getting the wrong one. I called it immediately and it rang a couple of times, and that was it, gone. It pained me much as I just bought it for my trip home and lost it in less than a week! Ended up with a Blackberry Z30, which I loved, then a Blackberry Motion, which I loved even more, and have been OnePlus Nords since, which I like. |

budaatum:Why would a passenger change his body position as soon as another passenger entered? At the back seat of the keke, one should seat straight facing the front directly. But he adjusted his legs and placed them diagonally, leaving enough room between me and him to make his move. There is no way my phone would have fallen out of my trouser like that. |
| Re: How I Almost Lost My Phone To A Thief by jmoore(op): 1:18am On May 11 |
HenryStarlife:My first thought when I panicked and jumped into the keke was to grab him and pull him out but the phone was on the seat very close to his leg. That's why I let it slide. Cos if people gather, some may say it fell from my pocket cos he wasn't holding the phone. |

jmoore:You are saying two different things. Did you allow him go because you have somewhere to be urgently or because the phone wasn't in his pocket. |

jmoore:You were right not to create a scene. And that most likely a pickpocket. It's a minor crime. And he was professional enough to drop your phone. Its called Lego. |
| Re: How I Almost Lost My Phone To A Thief by CloudKnight: 9:17am On May 11 |
Based on your narration you have no concrete evidence to hold unto in accusing or attacking the assumed thief. You did the right thing by picking your phone and moving on. |

I don't like sitting in the middle, be it Keke or inside the bus. That's why I always make sure I fill my car tank before I hit any journey. Even if I have to enter public transport, I no dy side for middle, either window side or front. Nigeria is too wide now that even a kid ought to safeguard himself. And don't forget to always hold a small jack knife when going out at night, you might never know when it will come handy. |

Lucky you..it happened to me around March this year... they driver distracted me with an impossible price to my destination which I was busy arguing while a guy sitting next to me picked my pocket while supporting me that the price the driver called was ridiculous..when I said I won't go anymore I was quickly dropped and the moment I checked my shorts pocket phones was gone they had already speed off....I chased with bike but I couldn't locate them cos the mixed with other keke ... |

Hmmmm. Thank God you later so it. Most times, the pain is not about the phone per se, but he contacts ( which can be gotten in modern times) and the files as well. Try and back up your phone regularly please. You never can tell |
| Re: How I Almost Lost My Phone To A Thief by jmoore(op): 9:25am On May 11 |
marlow1962:I wasn't in the middle. The main point is to protect your pockets. |
| Re: How I Almost Lost My Phone To A Thief by Didi2d(m): 9:28am On May 11 |
budaatum:Lol. I remembered when I lost my brand new Motorola phone back then at iya noba. I suspect the conductor or a pickpocket in that bus. But the funny thing that makes me laugh whenever I remember is. Out of confusion, I didn't know how I walked from iyanoba to okokomaiko while talking to myself. Lol |

Thank God you did not create a scene, your disgrace will be huge. You recovered your phone beside the man, and not his pocket - i wonder how you will convince us he was the one that removed the phone. Wisdon is profitable to direct, be wise. |
| Re: How I Almost Lost My Phone To A Thief by Berankis: 9:30am On May 11*. Modified: 3:46pm On May 11 |
HenryStarlife:There was not much he could do. He didn't find the phone with anyone. It was found on the seat, even though, we all know the man in question is most likely a pick-pocket. He would just claim the phone dropped from his pocket, which is very tenable. |

Once you enter a keke and one idiot is acting somehow, just check ur fone and get down. No drama, nothing. Just drop and go |

I had a similar experience years ago in Ikeja. The rider was distracting me to pay my fee, and the passenger seated next to me was pulling out my phone from my pocket. Suddenly, the rider said I should go down; he is no longer going in my direction. As I was about to come down, I noticed my phone was almost dropping off from my pocket. I quickly grab my phone, and the guy just zoomed off. |

HenryStarlife:He has no evidence to prove that, hence it's better for him to move on. |

If it was me and it was confirmed that they were thieves, the moment I jump out I will throw a flash grenade inside the keke. When the thing blast, they go hear am |

budaatum:This cannot have been as painful as what happened to me some fifteen years ago. Was going to the beach with my fiance and friends and decided to splurge on Ermenegildo Zegna shades. Cost a pretty penny. Got to the beach, put them on a table, laughed and boom! The shades just purchased at dear cost to impress my finances friends disappeared! |

Oga OP, the Golden rule when entering a commercial bus or Keke is to always hold ur phone. I repeat, hold ur phone. U were lucky Oga. Secondly, they might probably not thieves cos it might be that ur phone slipped from ur pocket due to the way u sat. That's the More reason of holding ur phone during transit in a commercial bus. Finally, don't press the phone on transit most especially when u are close to the window cos boy's Dem fit snatch am. Talking from experience as a Korope driver. |

DeepSight:I'll try to top this. I went to the supermarket once with my Oakleys, and must have left them on a shelf, because they were nowhere to be found afterwards. I went roller blading in Hyde Park and made a call on my Sony Mobile in the mid 90s when phones cost an arm and a leg and half a kidney. I put the phone down on a bench and roller bladed away, and only later did I realise I was deceiving myself to justify getting a new phone despite not having the money for a replacement and no backup for the information on the phone I'd thrown away. I was once returning from a 2 week sunny beach holiday n Kos. Greece. I'd tied by new Timberland boots to my luggage but must have untied them at some point when sat outside the airport, because they weren't there no more when I was boarding the plane. |

Not absolving the guy of blame. But it's very possible for your phone to slip out of your pocket. Happened to me in a Keke in March this year. The aboki was kind enough to return the phone when I dialed the number after he done go sef. |
| Re: How I Almost Lost My Phone To A Thief by budaatum: 10:11am On May 11 |
marlow1962:I wouldn't even share keke with anyone most times. I'd just pay for all the seats and sit there like I own it. The advantage over driving is, I can abandon the keke and walk if there is traffic but I can not abandon my car. |
