If the governor contests the Senate and wins, he can only resign on the day the Senate is being inauguratied. If he wins, he will still be serving as the governir of the state until June 2027.

But these same people will pressure their appointees to resign if they have any political ambition.

It does not seem fair.
Yes for appointed positions which doesn't have tenure
But elected positions has tenure

It's interesting that Tinubu will prefer this man to be senate president over Orji Kalu (that's if the rumour we hear is true)
Politicians naturally prefer to support someone they can easily control rather than who can wake up one day and challenge them..

Hope Uzodinma is another version of Godswill Akpabio, so it's all about who will serve their interest better...

Na wah o.

See permutation and combination.

There should be a legislation to bar incumbent Governors from transiting into the Senate immediately after their tenure.

They should at least wait for another cycle.
Who are the people to make the law? That's why personally I can never take a bullet for any politician, they are all the same

So why did the governor went to collect the senate form if the story of his planned resignation is actually false?

He will only be mandated to resign before being sworn in as a senator
He can't be in position as governor and still Contest another position by the new law. But in Naija anything can happen
Re: Uzodimma Joins Senate Race, May Resign As Governor by fabolouz1(m): 8:56am On May 11
Total nonsense, call to serve indeed. The National Assembly is gradually turning into retirement homes of Governors who uses their power to force themselves on the people . ALL these crap started gaining traction from the class of 2011 governors.
After looting their various States , they now run to the National Assembly to still remain relevant and watch over the Governors of their States if they happen to belong to same party.

Re: Uzodimma Joins Senate Race, May Resign As Governor by Pacesetter123(m): 8:58am On May 11

So he'd be a sitting governor and still contest in the senatorial election.

The law no too clear
Nah today you see am?
From Orjiuzo kalu to Saraki,Dakwambo,Theodor Orji,Okorocha,Seriake Dickson,Yari,Godswill Akpabio,Danjuma Goje, etc all them moved directly from governorship seat to the Senate.
You come dey here dey ask this kind question for 2026.
Where you been dey since 2007 wey majority of the governors go Senate like that without resigning?
Even if you no been born that time, study political history of your nation.
Most of us wey dey talk about politics of the past in the 1st,2nd and 3rd Republic no been born too,but we get ourselves informed about the happenings that time.

Look between the lines, his election is not in the normal election timeliness, for him to go to Senate he has to resign or he will wait till 2031
So what happens if he looses the senate election will he return back to his governorship seat once again or completely loose out?

The man will not resign.

HE will find a legal loophole to remain as governor while still contesting for the Senate...

His tenure expires in January 2028....

The next Senate will be inaugurated in June 2027....

So if he wins the Senate seat, he will still remain as governor for the remaining 6 months to complete his tenure....

His constituency will not be represented in the Senate during that 6 months period....

As soon as Baba completes his tenure, he will head straight to Abuja to be sworn in as Senator representing Imo West...
Is any law bars him not to contest as a sitting gov? Law only bars him not to hold two positions at a time and he will resign, the very day he becomes senate President.

Freshtruth:
Omo that senate dey very juicy before a whole governor one resign him seat just to enter Senate. The deputy governor is a lucky man at least he will be a governor in his life time.
No,the Senate seat is not juicy that governorship seat.
The man is not just going for an ordinary senator seat which he has previously been for two times.
He is going for the Senate Presidency seat which is far more juicy and highly ranked than governorship seat.

Someone smart from his constituency or even an opponent from another party might still search for a loophole in the nigerian constitution to challenge this arrangement for depriving them of representation during that period.

What the fûck is a placeholder Governor.

Una don start this nonsense wey una dey do with contesting Presidency and Senate ticket at the same time.

Just look at how foolish this country is that there is no respect for how a normal democratic process should work.

Greed would not be the end of the country
Re: Uzodimma Joins Senate Race, May Resign As Governor by Pacesetter123(m): 9:14am On May 11
No wonder Akpabio dey try block him and Oshomole from contesting for Senate Presidency!
I now know the reason why Akpabio amend the Senate rules,it was to barr him and Oshomole Senate Presidency.
But Tinubu go fit settle this fight between this him 3 Loyalists?
Akpabio, Oshomole and Uzodimma.......
We go see who among them go finally get the anointing oil of the president for forehead.

he can run for senate while still being governor. The only clause is that he can't hold both office at the same time, and his tenor as governor ends in January, and the 11th senate will be sworn in June 2027. So he will complete his term as governor in office, no need to resign

Yayi, Dapo Abiodun, Adelabu, Amosun have all been questioned why they want the Senate seat. No tribal, no party, no sentiments.

Only if our brothers and sisters from the east can ask the same question about the likes of Uzodinma, Abaribe, Kalu and co representing their constituencies
Question by who and what have come out of the questioning?

OUK have belittled himself way too much to be in the consideration for Senate president. Let him continue licking ass in vain.
Even sef e never sure for Uzodinma, he's not the only one harbouring the ambition, others in the senate are eyeing that post.

Imo state calendar is different from others.
If he doesn't resign he won't be able to contest and when he tenure ends, election would have been concluded.
So he will become jobless till 2031

He was against Mr Tinubu during the APC primaries despite everything (allegedly) that Mr Tinubu had done for him in the past, including taking in Mr Kalu's daughter to live with him in Lagos when Mr Kanu was in Abia state.

After Mr Tinubu won the election, Mr Kalu suddenly started going overboard to promote himself as Mr Tinubu's ardent supporter.

That bridge is burnt.

Mr Tinubu can't trust him.
