NYSC Member Donates Benches to GDSS Thabu, Hong LG in Adamawa

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Suur Tyosaa Demian serving in Adamawa State with state code AD/25A/2214, has donated benches to Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Thabu Senior Section in Hong Local Government Area as part of his Community Development Service (CDS) project.

Demian, whose Place of Primary Assignment is Adamawa State College of Education, Hong, presented the benches during a ceremony held at the school premises. The event attracted district heads, village heads, staff of the school, NYSC officials, and fellow corps members.

Speaking during the presentation, the corps member explained that he was moved to embark on the project after visiting the school and observing that some students were sitting on the floor due to inadequate seating facilities.

According to him, effective learning cannot take place in an unconducive environment where students are forced to sit on the ground while receiving lessons.

He noted that the condition of the students gave him sleepless nights, stressing that the future leaders of the country deserve better learning conditions. Demian added that he decided to carry out the project by mobilizing support from members of the community and other well-meaning individuals.

The Adamawa State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Osoroh Caroline Chinedu, who was unavoidably absent at the event, was represented by the NYSC Local Government Inspector (LGI) for Hong, Mrs. Chakaseda Shehu.

Speaking on behalf of the State Coordinator, Mrs. Shehu commended Demian for the initiative, describing the project as being in line with the core mandate of the NYSC scheme.

She urged other corps members to emulate the gesture, noting that every corps member should strive to make a positive impact in their host communities.

The Coordinator further observed that despite Demian being a Tiv indigene from Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, he saw himself as part of the Hong community and chose to contribute meaningfully to its development.

She also appealed to the school authorities to ensure proper use and maintenance of the benches.

Receiving the items on behalf of GDSS Thabu, the Vice Principal Academics, Malam Musa Isa, expressed appreciation to the corps member for the donation.

He said the benches would go a long way in improving learning conditions in the school, adding that more seats would now be available for students.

Malam Musa Isa also encouraged other corps members serving in Hong and beyond to initiate similar projects capable of addressing pressing needs in their host communities.
