Kwara State University has announced that it will discontinue its HND conversion (top-up) programme, marking a significant shift in its academic offerings.

The decision, which takes effect from the 2025/2026 academic session, aligns with directives from the National Universities Commission.

According to the university, the move is part of a broader regulatory review of non-traditional degree pathways in Nigeria’s university system. The HND conversion programme, which has allowed Higher National Diploma holders to upgrade to a Bachelor’s degree, will no longer admit new students once the current admission cycle closes.

While the university has not suggested any disruption for students already enrolled, it indicated that guidance will be issued to ensure affected candidates complete their studies under clear academic arrangements.

The development is expected to affect many prospective applicants who have relied on the programme as a bridge between polytechnic and university qualifications.

For years, the scheme has served as a popular route for HND holders seeking to improve their academic standing and career prospects.

I've never heard of such a program before. I know of dirext entry those days with oned to 200l and even at that the person will still write jamb Direct entry exam

Polytechnics are still relevant, even Technical Colleges are still relevant. We just need to go back to the original vision that produced results then properly equip the schools. Half-baked teachers and environment lead to half-baked products.

Above all, when you make a choice pls understand what you are signing up for.
In Nigeria, a university and a polytechnic are not equivalent and a polytechnic is not the equivalent of a technical college. Practical classes or training won't change that. Don't play dumb and start acting up later.

Let them go to nexus international university, Uganda under nbte arrangement with the university. Although the university fee is 800k for the 3 semesters in a year.

This is the best response for the polytechnic certificate holders. Many polytechnic leavers thought they were being smart by taking the easy way out by avoiding university education because it is too rigorous but they later start crying of discrimination when the university graduate is reaping the benefits of his hard work

You are still trying to take the easy way out. You are still trying to follow backdoor as you did when you went to HND when you saw universities everywhere.

You want to be sleeping in your room and want the university in Uganda to award you the degree without you lifting a finger. Later when those who worked hard to earn their degrees are coming for you, you will start complaining that they don't like you.

But no reason was given for this action! Why. The others will follow suit. There has to be a reason!!!
