The study permit processing time for Nigeria has been reduced from 8 weeks to 5 weeks.

@ amnotapervert what's your take on that?
What else could be reasons; massive enrollment drop due to immigration caps.

Summary Change in Government policy In my honest opinion I believe it's because of Canada is significantly reducing its permanent resident targets, dropping from 500,000 to 395,000 in 2025, 380,000 in 2026, and a projected 365,000 by 2027

and we all know everyone coming to school in Canada wants PR after school and working small like a year at most....

so what that means is that the Student to work to PR Flow people think usually use is no more as "easy" as before with each PR draw being in the 500 except health care and French... its no longer that easy and even the gov planning on reducing the temporary visa (work Visa,Visitor visa and student Visa) numbers....

but for student visa Immigration cap does not affect Masters and PHD students

Hello guys thank you all for the many suggestions and contributions. I got admission for masters in canada for Winter 2027. I'm here for advice on preparing documents (bank statements, business documents, tax?? etc) for POF and proving home ties. I am the last child of my family and I plan to use my dad as my sponsor, he has been a business man for many years.

I also work and earn and okay salary but my company does not provide payslip so I wonder if bank statement of the transfer will be enough. Also when is the best time for me to submit the application to give enough time for processing.

Also are there any bodies that offer funding for int'l students ?
My school did not require a tuition deposit but I can pay for a semester if necessary. My family will sponsor for a some time so I also plan to work and fend for my fees. Also can I use a gift deed?

I know I've asked a lot of questions but I'd appreciate any answers.
What school please

Some of the schools I applied to in Canada requested for IELTS. even in the visa application it is asked.
Alberta and Saskatchewan didn't ask us for IELTS. One unconditional offer from Alberta and conditional from Saskatchewan.

Family member just got visa approved today to study at Alberta.

Background checks still running, Eligibility too. A lot is being done in the background without being updated in the tracker or main portal.

Will be submit the OPR letter and passport tomorrow God willing.

My question is around the form IMM1294.

For the parent, you have information about schools but what about the kids?

Want to be sure, we have successful family application where minor applied for studies permit
ehiremen2002:
Thanks for the clarification, @JMG12. We have decided to proceed with Study Permits for the kids. However, we have a few questions regarding the documentation for minors:

Details of Intended Study in Canada: Since minors don't need a Letter of Acceptance (LOA), what should they input in this section? Should I list a generic "Public School Board" in the city where they will be studying, or leave it blank/write "To be determined upon arrival"?

Employment/Education History: For the children's "Current Activity/Employment" section,we will list their current school in Nigeria.

Supporting Documents: we have requested Letters of Recommendation from their current Nigerian schools (Elementary and High School). Are there any other specific documents required from their current schools—such as transcripts, report cards, or "To Whom It May Concern" letters—to strengthen the application?

we would appreciate any insights from those who have successfully processed Study Permits for minors from Nigeria.

I would appreciate if anyone can enlighten me on how to go about this. My wife finished her 2yrs program last year. And we're both presently on work permit. We both work as PSW's. But I am thinking of doing a bridging program to cross Practial nursing. But I am confused what will happen to my wife's work permit if I apply for a study permit. I would appreciate any clarification. Thanks a lot.

Nothing!!! will happen to her work permit.
If you apply for study permit if approved, your work permit remains valid until it expires..
But you will still need to maintain the conditions on both permits..
And you will need full-time work to be eligible for PNP as home support worker, you will need to plan how to balance the 2 permits as a student, otherwise you will count on your spouse work experience!

I'm just curious, do you write SOPs?
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by DrOBD(m): 12:08am On May 15
I recently got admission to study a 2 years college programme in health, in ontario. I'm in my early 30s, highest level of education is secondary education, WAEC. My sister who lives in Canada paid my first year fees fully and is happy to sponsor me fully.
I have received my PAL, attestation letter, acceptance, to resume this coming September.

I am the last of family of 5, and the only one left in Nigeria. How do I prove ties to home country. Will proof of funds from my sister be enough. I have been working in the same company for about 10 years where they pay us by hand, money is very small and I don't have any savings in my account.

Any ideas on how I can prove ties to my home country, sort the proof of funds and write SOP?

I'm not concerned about the PNP. I'm more concerned if it's feasible to get a study permit while my wife retains her 3yrs work permit. While I change from work permit to study permit. Cos I know as an international student I'm only allowed to work for 24hrs.

While you submiting ur application, u had paid it alongside the application fee. That 85$ u saw during the payment was the biometric fee.

u do not need to pay for biometric again. just go there with your
Passport, proof of payment receipt, BIL, biometric appointment letter

The best approach for you in terms of POF is for your sponsor to do a GIC. Does your program align with your job role over the years?

If I may ask, are your dependents your wife, your kids, or both?
