I bought a 2008 Toyota Prius late last year. Because of insurance, tax, and other things, I left it parked for a few weeks. After about 3 weeks I began to use it, but every time I switched off the engine, I had to jump-start it to get it going again even after a 1-hour drive. At first I thought it was the cold weather.

I took it to the mechanic and it turned out the 12V battery was small and old. I got a new battery, and everything went back to normal. But now the car feels faster than before.

When I was driving at 70 km/h before, it felt like I was crawling. Now it's faster than before.

Recently, I used Google Maps to go somewhere I didn’t know. My speedometer showed 40 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, but Google Maps showed 60+ km/h with the red warning that I’d exceeded the limit.

With daily monitoring, I noticed when my speedometer shows 60 km/h, Maps shows 90+ km/h, and when it shows 70 km/h, Maps also shows 100+ km/h.

Is there a way to fix this without spending much as I don’t want to be a victim of speed cameras.

Before you conclude it's the car, try use Google map on 2 other devices to be sure

An easy fit for any mechanic who knows what he's doing or u can just use it like that....
Since you have noticed that the difference is 10.... Whenever it's reading 20km/h for example.... Just know you're going at 30km/h......but to be safe... I'll advise u just fix it once ND for all make u no forget yourself one day

@OP, confirm if the bigger number on your speedometer is higher than the smaller.

Or snap your speedometer dashboard to confirm it.

Guess your speedometer calibration is in M/hr. I had the same problem. If your speedometer calibration is in miles per hour, your vehicle is in perfect condition

u are probably reading miles/hour not Km/per hour.
On the speedo meter there is 2 size of numbers written there. The small one is km/h and the big one is mil/h. U are probably reading the miles.

Your Google map is giving it's reading in kph while the uk used prius is reading on mph...

Check if the speedometer or Map speed measurements is different.

One can be in miles and another in KM. You might not notice

You can use the bar reading from now and follow the numbers under the mph reading

If you can't change it, just divide what you see on the dashboard by 0.625.
1mile = 1.6km

Either your tyres are bigger than the manufacturer spec or the calibration is just wrong...likely the former.

Your speed sensor is faulty..replace it

Sorry I cannot believe what I saw in the first couple of posts but I hope someone had figured out the problem from the pic OP posted and the numbers he was comparing.

Miles to km is about 1mile to 1.6km
Your Prius cannot get to 260m/h hour so that car is UK spec Prius and he was comparing to GPS in m/hr

That was a quiz question, your car might be sharper because of better ignition

Change units in your GPS settings to kmph

Check if your speedometer is in miles per hr, the mismatch can lead to similar fluctuation.
