nairalanda1:Oga, it is the elites that want to live like Arab Sheikhs not the average Nigerian or the downtrodden who just want to survive, just want to live. There are millions out there that are already accustomed to suffering, to crushing poverty, to danger, peril and the threat of violence as a way of life. You need to travel wide and visit places in this country. I do regularly. They are so weather beaten, so traumatized by life they are not even asking for anything. As a matter of fact many do not even understand the concept of government in those rural places and in many cases they just want to be left alone. If government CANNOT make their lives any better It should stop making it worse. And as far as the 500 billion for the treasury is concerned, from whom do they expect to get that money. From the people they don't know or the people they don't care about. In most capitalist nations the top 5 percent covers almost the entire tax income of nation. Nigeria is similar. The problem here is that the top 5 percent are known by them in givernment and they are frequently in cahoots to mine the country, to collectively pillage it's resources so there is that dissatisfaction is collecting back just part of what you have given out in the first place. That is why the theme for the season is PRODUCTION, PRODUCTIVITY as against the phantom wealth of CONTRACTING which is just a recirculation, a flow of resources from government to citizens and back again. Zero sum. Like Mojeed Dahiru will oft say. For government to set itself free from the debt trap. It has to start INVESTING in productivity as against SPENDING on depreciating assets. You CANNOT tax your way out of debt. You cannot tax your way to economic growth. Look for Mojeed Dahiru and listen to his views on public finances and you will be enlightened. |

Cybaghost:Sane Nigerians know this, that is why we must do everything under heaven to ensure he never comes back. Tinubu will squeeze Nigerians to death, if he wins 2027. We know him very well in Lagos. Those days during election campaign his Agbero revenue boys would suspend the harasment of Lagosians. After winning elections, they resume again with full force. |

Majdddd:The FG has no power to tax your income and any state that wants to enforce PAYE will definitely increase the minimum wage unless the deduction on minimum wage is very insignificant |
| Re: You Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by lawani(m): 12:12pm On May 16 |
tiger28:There will be up to 70 million people earning income. The ones paying PAYE can not be up to 5 million. Just the Civil servants and the organized private sector Edit I was wrong. There are 11.3 million workers in the pension scheme and I believe all are also paying PAYE. I also believe up to 100 million workers exist in Nigeria for up to 11 million to be in the pension scheme

| Re: You Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by oloriokonbowa: 1:15pm On May 16 |
Paying of tax does not need a long sermon. What prompt people to pay tax is the judicious use. How can people pay tax and 3 years later one man will be sentenced to one year imprisonment for embezzling N15 billion tax money? How can people pay when there are no records and accountability?. Subsidy was removed from fuel 3 years ago, have we been told how much was saved and what it's verifiably used for? A country where everyone literarily has to provide his water, buy his pole and transformer etc. Let's see some transparency please. Government borrows to do everything as if there is no internally generated revenue in the country. I no fit talk o |

| Re: You Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by InvertedHammer: 2:09pm On May 16 |
/ Why would any sane person pay tax to a government that provides no basic amenities? The story of looters walking free in Nigeria doesn't make a good case for tax payment. Yahaya Bello is sitting on N70 billion and the FG appears helpless. / |

Reference:Then hold them to account, and stop campaigning for your side. The same way the emiolkan gang campaign for their side. Regardless of what you think of me, the reason why the elite live as they do is because most of us don't pay tax, thus most of us are not incentivised to even hold them to account self. Abeg, I ain't here to defend anyone, just to tell you how a proper country should function. We are not saudi arabia, we need to be like a sane producer nation. |

| Re: You Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by Vision101(m): 4:45pm On May 16 |
Stephen0mozzy:This one is valid and it's what the citizens should be asking from the center and subnationals. Every duty have rights attached to it. We haven't been asking because: ~ we have not been paying. Forget about indirect taxes. ~ we are tribalistic. We leave our duty of asking when our tribes man is on the throne but ask loudest when another tribe is on the throne. ~ almost all our big people with no exception don't pay reasonable taxes. ~ we have been spoilt by natural resources. Natural resources should be springboard but their conversion is what creates wealth. Wealth converted should pay tax. ~ if we want to borrow less then we must either pay our taxes or make due with lack of infrastructure. We have sever deficit of infrastructure. Income from our natural resources are low relative to our population and our needs. There is little or nothing left to provide infrastructure for long-term development. |

| Re: You Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by Stephen0mozzy: 4:53pm On May 16 |
Vision101:Read what you've said. We have been paying indirect tax, so we can't ask for the ONLY purpose why government exists. Please. So the natural resource that they've been mismanaging, they'll do better job of accountability if the money is from tax and not oil? Please. |

| Re: You Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by Vision101(m): 5:08pm On May 16 |
Stephen0mozzy:The only major indirect tax in this nation is vat. What is our rate compared with nations at the same level of development with us? Before this reform Nigerians have forgotten capital gains tax and capital transfer tax. I'm a landlord, I receive rental payment but I don't pay tax on them. It's not done in those nations that we want to be like them. When I knew that our tax system has broken down completely was when I did fx transaction through Form A and bank didn't asked for my TCC. When we were students you can't access $1 through Form A without attaching TCC. Parents couldn't register their children in public schools without showing TCC. Free petrodollar destroyed us. We need to go back. |
| Re: You Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by Stephen0mozzy: 5:11pm On May 16 |
Vision101:Face the question and answer direct; not all these big big economical jargons you're throwing around. People who have shown zero accountability and prudence in managing small VAT, Stamp Duty, Oil Revenue, Foreign Exchange WILL? all of a sudden start becoming prudent because the citizens are now paying 30% tax? |

YOU CANT DEMAND TAX WITHOUT PROPER MINIMUM WAGE OF ABOUT 500,000 |
| Re: You Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by Vision101(m): 5:32pm On May 16 |
Stephen0mozzy:Read again my first reply. We have a right to demand accountability but are we going to say that we will not fulfill our duty of paying tax until they account? My take is pay but demand accountability not just from the center but from the subnationals as well. Unknown to many the impact of corruption and lack of accountability at the subnationals effects us more because they are in charge of our microeconomy. |
| Re: You Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by lawani(m): 5:33pm On May 16 |
Stephen0mozzy:Do what other countries are doing and you will be like them. Make Tinubu the President of the USA and he will perform. Make Trump Nigeria President and he will fail. If you talk like this, it reeks of inferiority complex because you think all of you here are inherently bad managers while people in neighbouring countries that work are not and common sense says that is not correct In any case, any governor you think is working now is doing so because of the revenue generated by Tinubu except maybe one or two. They have not increased their own igt |
