It seems to me therefore that our training methods must be re-orientated to retain the critical building blocks but they must also become adapted to the real needs of society.

That is why we have started a school of transportation here, to prepare a new generation of professionals that will become our transport planners, transport managers and transport operators.

The reason is simple. Transportation is a global problem and it is no less so in Lagos or any other part of Nigeria.

Major cities and countries including our state are building transport facilities such as the rail project on the Badagry corridor and the Expressway expansion.

But how many Nigerians have the knowledge about rail construction and how many are involved in building our bridges and highways?

That is why I advised the University management not to move the Transport School to Epe but to leave it in Ojo, so that the students can use the on-going construction as their laboratory.

From Fashola's 2200 Days In Office At LASU-2013

https://www.nairaland.com/1316033/fasholas-2200-days-office-lasu

He delivered state speech and promptly deliver.

Building global standard transportation system from Metro rails, bridges, roads, cable car system, water transportation and jetties, air and seaports means you need road engineers and technicians, transport managers, transport policy makers and researchers and to do that, you need a dedicated transport school.

We can not move forward or engage acceptable global standards if we don't build up our institutions and train credible and quality workforce to move us to the next level.

Central Library and Senate Building under construction..

LASU today is the highest rated state university in Nigeria, but by the time all the constructions and upgrades are done with, I see one of the best in Africa..

LASU Transport students tour US

The pioneer students of the Lagos State University School of Transport (LASUSOT), who were sponsored by the Lagos State Government to the US, have returned armed with great knowledge.

The state government, in a bid to train professionals, sponsored the students abroad to be exposed to what is obtainable in developed countries so as to solve transport problems in the state
.

Findings revealed that Governor Babatunde Fashola has decided to invest annually on the SOT so as to solve the challenges of transportation in Lagos by producing the needed qualified manpower, which will make the Transport sector perform its critical role in the nation’s socio-economic development.

The sponsorship is part of the fulfilment of the school’s mission which states thus: “To provide opportunities for prospective transport professionals to acquire specialized training in transport planning and policy, transport technology and infrastructure as well as transport management and operations.

”The leader of the team who is also the President of Transport Students’ Association, Edwin Aniebue briefed the management team on their brief training and practical experience at the 2012 Edition of the American Public Transportation Association Conference in the US.

Kudos Oga Fash. Well, the most important consideration for all progressive Lagosians is that it must be an equally competent hand that takes the baton from Fashola. Too often, the story of Nigeria and even Africa at large is one step forward and two steps backwards as far as leadership is concerned.

Lagos sends students to U.K. transport education tour

Lagos has some of the busiest roads in Nigeria. The Lagos State Ministry of Transport on Monday said that winners of the ministry’s annual Be Road Friendly, BRF, competition, held in 2013 travelled to the U.K. on a seven-day transport education tour. This was in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Sina Thorpe, in Lagos.

The competition was organised by the Lagos State School Traffic Safety Advocacy Programme, LASTSAP, to improve transport education. “Six winners of the Be Road Friendly, BRF, Year 2013 competition organised by LASTSAP in the ministry of transportation have travelled to the U.K. on a seven-day transport education tour,” the statement said.
The Senior Special Assistant to the state governor, Babatunde Fashola, on Transport Education, Mariam Masha, advised the winners to be observant. She also urged them to be disciplined and be of good conduct throughout their stay in the U.K. “The winners from primary, junior and senior secondary school categories are to be focused while on the trip. You are the agent of change in the society as well as the future leaders of this country, Nigeria,” the statement said.

The winners are Achanya Mary of Langbasa Primary School, Ajah; Adeoye Samuel of Ajelogo Primary School, Ketu and Anipupo Adesewa of Government Comprehensive Junior College, Agege. Others are Adisa Mariam of Stadium Junior Grammar School, Surulere; Adebanjo John of Ansar-Udeen Senior High School, Falolu, Surulere, and Akinnagbe Oluwabunmi of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta. The statement said that the winners were expected to visit the Department of Transport and London Transport Museum and other places. It said that the winners emerged out of 7,088 pupils and students, who started the competition in 2013. According to the statement, only 16 students participated in the finals held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium on November 26, 2013. Lagos has some of the busiest roads in Nigeria. (NAN)

You are right, the problem is always continuity, but luckily for Lagos and Lagosians, they have tons of good talents to pick from. I know Lagosians wont hesitate to exert pressure and expectations on the next governor achieve and even do better than Fashola or get kicked out, Lagos is a very unique state with strong state pride and love and they've never been short of great leaders from Mobolaji Johnson to Jakande, Tinubu and Fashola.

Ambode looks very credible...
