“Stop taking your girlfriend to restaurant, Bukka is better” – Man sparks debate over dating cost advice

A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after sharing his opinion about dating expenses and where men should take their partners on outings.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he advised men to stop taking their girlfriends to expensive restaurants, claiming that local “Bukkas” are more affordable and practical.

In his words, he said:

“Bukka is better than restaurant, stop taking your girlfriend to restaurant and send 15k but here you will spend only 4k. All the girls in my life I take them to Bukka.

All those girls are not worth spending your money on. You meet a girl today, you’re spending 40k on her.”

According to him, spending money on restaurant dates is unnecessary when cheaper alternatives like local restaurants exist.

His statement has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many social media users criticizing his views on relationships and spending, while others argued that dating expenses should be based on individual financial capacity and preferences.

It's really pathetic indeed.

As in, spending huge amount of money on someone who wouldn't appreciate it simply because she has something that's in-between her legs

My mother then once said something that made me to entirely stop eating them, she told me how some of those local street restaurants use good luck charms to be attracting customers and that my body is probably resisting them.

Buka is sweet—until you are buying drugs for typhoid. Not all bukkas are good. If you can comfortably afford a proper restaurant, then there's no harm in upgrading. Don't let the temporary sweetness of the food make you forget the dangers of poor preservation and zero hygiene.

Ask yourself, how many clean bukkas are in my area and if you can't mention a good one, go to a restaurant or prepare something at home.

I hardly eat out, if I invite a girl over and she wants to eat, I have way more tasty foods in my kitchen. I cook what restaurants or bukkas can't cook to suit my tastes 10%.

Life is simple, go to any eatery of your choice eat and drink whatever you like at your own expense. Madam pay for your food! Then swear for una? Spend your money on yourself, na your money.

local or standard restaurant, many businesses use charms to attract customers. Whether na woli, babalawo or alfa dem dey go. The safest option is cooking at home.

All the dates I have had has either been at a park, cinema, recreation center. I think there's more Fun there than carrying a lady to a place where she will go and fill her guts with food.
