Goje loses as Inuwa-backed candidate clinches APC Senate Ticket

Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje has lost the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent Gombe Central Senatorial District for the fifth term.

In the direct primary election conducted Monday in Akko and Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Areas, two LGAs that make up the district, DCP Mohammed Ahmed (Rtd) clinched APC in the Senatorial District.
The Returning Officer of the Election, Dr Habu Dahiru, declared that DCP Ahmed scored 42,785 votes against Senator Goje’s 10,425 votes.
Ahmed was earlier picked as the consensus candidate of the APC for the Senate seat in Gombe central.

Senator Goje, has been representing the zone since 2011, after his two terms as governor of the state.

Our correspondent reports that the result would mark a significant shift in Gombe Central politics.

Speaking with journalists after the primaries, DCP Ahmed said the process was conducted without disruption, saying the atmosphere reflected the growing support for change in Gombe Central.

He said party members and residents were enthusiastic about the possibility of having a stronger representation for the zone at the National Assembly.

“You can see the excitement among the people. Many believe the time has come for Yamaltu-Deba to have a stronger voice at the national level,” he stated.

The APC’s candidate added that his ambition was not aimed at denying anyone the right to contest, “but was driven by the desire of the people for a new direction.”
When contacted, Goje’s aide declined comment, he said he would seek clearance from his principal before he could talk with journalists.

He should go and rest, and take care of his grandchildren, it's not by force for him to die there, he should give other people chance. Goje should go home and relax , he should take his grandchildren to school every morning.

Thank God for the result, I don't know why one person will want to be in power all through, imagine Okowa can't stay aside after just four years outside the corridor of power, he quickly rushed back by going for the Senate. Nigeria politicians are something else.

Jagaban is really a very smart and think thank. He requested for expulsion of delegates in primary and block anyone from decamping re-contest once you have contested primary in a party primary once. This will reflect the wishes of the people.

8yrs as a governor and 16yrs in the Senate, he should go and rest and for Pantami, he has never voted nor campaign in any elections in Gombe before, infact he cursed PDP in prayers during Jonathan tenure because of insecurity and now he's enjoying the APC despite its abysmal performance far worse than Jonathan,no sane person take him serious. He should go back pulpit

It’s high time they rest and retire that man Goje… I could still remembered vividly when he stopped our Gombe state NYSC allowance for our batch that year when he was still the governor of Gombe state all because he made a blunder while trying to give speech during our POP… even later, na only 3k dem later start to pay while I’m some other areas, 1k… grin

Make him go rest… nothing like implosion in this current political situation in Nigeria!!!
