In this entire debate, we are missing the most important question. What can be done to improve black kids score? No need to defend incompetence, let's look for solutions |

tctrills:Can you see the simplistic, brain-dead answer you gave? You can never answer the question properly because you never diagnosed the root cause of problem. Do you know why Nigerians do better than black Americans in the USA? Education and opportunity. Try again |

GracieX3:1. Take responsibility for your actions and outcomes. Then men stay with the women you impregnate. Single mother homes perpetuate poverty and societal dysfunction 2. You dont need funding for any of these |

LordReed:Rooying out fraud is the point. If a program is full of fraud, waste, fake claims, or weak eligibility checks, you don’t keep pouring money into it blindly and call that compassion. You pause, audit, tighten the rules, remove fake beneficiaries, punish the fraudsters, and then make sure the money reaches the real people who need it. What makes no sense is acting like every dollar spent under the name of feeding children is automatically clean and untouchable. The Somali Fraud and other fraudstakes money away from actual poor children too. So yes, root out the fraud. But don’t pretend questioning funding or demanding accountability means someone wants children to starve. That's the logic. |

benalvino3:You are far too young and refuse to learn to know that the "some working public systems decades ago" was so little and only in some places that the need to build working public systems where they did not exist would leave very little to maintain or improve the few where they did exist, so decay they would. Obanikoro was a village in the 80s. I used to look off my rear balcony and feel I had travelled to the Orolu Kingdom that had no light and no running water at the time. The front balcony showed a different view however, and was closer to GRA in Ikeja. We had running water way up on the third floor in the mid 70s. But providing running water to the rest of the village in the 80s meant the pressure wasn't enough to get water to the third floor. Ketu just about 7 miles away, had no water pipes at the time, and I'd be impressed if it had any now. As for light, the one transformer that served the entire Obanikoro was insufficient in the mid 70s, and when it blew there was no light for weeks sometimes. Schools weren't enough neither, so many went to afternoon schools expecting to be taught by teachers who knew the school inspectors only visit in the mornings and who were already tired from teaching the day students. Hospitals! The judicial system! All very "some", but I can not keep educating you how very "some" "working public systems" were in Nigeria post independence when you can so easily educate yourself that the colonisers were not colonising you for your benefit or to develop you as you seem to believe, but for their own benefit and profit, and when we kicked them out, they literally placed a cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of our future development. |

GracieX3:Maybe because Nigerians in America are likely to have a stable 2 parent household which stats have shown is one of the biggest factors in predicting outcomes |
| Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by GracieX3(f): 1:19pm On May 19 |
tctrills:Lol....so your ridiculous answer of "leadership, habits, culture" is enough to save the black race from poverty? Why not start with the underlying cause of poverty? Lack of education and opportunity? The average Nigerian in the USA has at least tertiary level of education compared to the average African American. Also, the average Nigerian is motivated to use the opportunities in the USA, coming from a less developed country. What happened to investing in schools and trade businesses in black populated ghettos? What about teaching proper history? Motivating young black people to believe in themselves and achieve the most they can? |

GracieX3:New York consistently ranks #1 in the United States for per-pupil education expenditures. Funding has continued to climb due to state-level aid increases and local property tax adjustments. School districts across the state spend an average of $37,033 per student. That's more than entire local governments spend on education in Nigeria. Now what's the outcome for black kids. Despite the historic levels of funding, reading achievement scores—measured by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), known as "The Nation's Report Card"—show that a vast majority of Black students are not meeting baseline proficiency standards. When evaluating the most recent federal NAEP data cycles, the "Proficiency Rate" (meaning students can comfortably integrate ideas, analyze text, and identify main themes) breaks down as follows: 4th Grade Reading: Only 16% of Black students in New York score at or above the "Proficient" level. 8th Grade Reading: Only 10% of Black students score at or above the "Proficient" level. While New York represents a "high-spending, lower-yield" model, Mississippi has become famous in education policy as a "low-spending, high-efficiency" success story—often referred to as the "Mississippi Miracle." Here is how Mississippi’s financial investment and reading proficiency rates for Black students compare. Mississippi has historically been one of the lower-income states in the U.S., and its education budget reflects that. It consistently ranks near the bottom for raw per-pupil spending. Statewide Average: Mississippi spends approximately $12,324 per student annually. The Base Student Cost: The baseline state formula handles basic classroom operational needs at around $7,201 per child, with extra weighted funding added for high-poverty or at-risk districts. Despite having significantly less money, Mississippi's aggressive focus on foundational literacy has yielded reading scores for Black students that match or exceed national averages, outperforming many wealthy states. On the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the "Proficient" rates and raw test scores for Black students break down as follows: 4th Grade Reading Proficiency: 19% of Black students in Mississippi score at or above the "Proficient" level. National Context: This ranks Mississippi's Black 4th graders #3 in the nation compared to their Black peers in other states. They outscore Black 4th graders in New York (16%) and the overall national public school average. 8th Grade Reading Proficiency: 13% of Black students score at or above the "Proficient" level. While scores naturally experience a dip by middle school nationwide, Mississippi's Black 8th graders still maintain a higher proficiency rate than New York's (10%). Summary, even with much more money blacks can't fix education. What is Mississippi doing better than New York. Remember, you guys call Mississippi a racist state. |

GracieX3:Your solution is basically taking resources from others to fund you more. No responsibility from your side Stats have shown that people who live in the same communities but have a 2 parent household are more likely to succeed , Black children in the US are 70% born into single parent households but you think that is not a major factor Leftists look for excuses |
| Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by tctrills: 1:27pm On May 19 |
GracieX3:The average black American has the opportunity to compete government funded schooling. Many are fed in schools. I gave the example of New York where the government spends more on a high school kid than an entire local government does in Nigeria. They black American kid has all the cards. The difference is that the Nigerian is coming from a culture that encourages his success. The moment you get to US, you are under pressure to succeed. The family and community are looking up to you. That is where culture comes in |

Thanks for capturing my post in full. It's been banned, as was I. DeepSight:There is no gainsaying the forced alliance of the Nigerian nations was always going to prove problematic and almost certainly cause long-term harm. However, likewise, you have to admit, the level of FD or civilisational quality (that would lend itself to driving a modern state) has nothing to do with the colonial invaders? Indeed, ill-thought out amalgamation apart, they would have left some artefacts that could aid that drive forward, no? Plus, I used the word "recommence", to point to the fact that this gee.hard existed prior to colonialism. They are acting true to type, their inherent behavioural patterns or to use your phrase "FD". Centuries later and in an era of modernity that is on full view for all to see. Can't you see they actually don't want or subscribe to your utopian vision of modern nation states everywhere? DeepSight:This is not a user case or journey experience. Just another claim. Why is it ludicrous, what evidence or data (apart references to long ago empires ), can you furnish to predict otherwise? Is there a blueprint we are tracking too? Signs of significant change that cannot be denied?DeepSight:The world does not "evolve" in lockstep. And as I noted, there are trickledown, and crossover effects from the developed to the less developed. That does not remove real obstacles to development in certain regions. The only solutions are one, a resolute defence. But by whom and on the basis of what? To what aim, other than survival and perhaps the chance to disaggregate, which would be most welcome and certainly make modern statehood more achievable for some of the constituents. The other is foreign intervention, which would hopefully reduce casualties and fallout, and hasten any split. But who wants that? Even as the foola issue is currently spreading across the Sahel. DeepSight:"Starter for 10". A phrase from the UK quiz show "university challenge". Used as an entry\warm-up question. TV |

bemeruca:You think I invented them? These things are well studied. 1. Harsh climate change was the primary driver in the development of civilization, according to new research by the University of East Anglia. http://news.softpedia.com/news/Severing-Climate-and-Civilization-35804.shtml 2. "The archaeologial and paleoenvironmental evidence is consistent with the notion that the development of complex societies in the Middle Holocene was largely the consequence of the responses of the precursor societies to deteriorating environmental conditions associated principally with the orbitally-driven weakening and southward retreat of the northern hempisphere monsoon belt." http://www.salon.com/technology/how_the_world_works/2006/11/17/accidental_civilization 3. Climate change helped the Incas build civilisation Their warfare, building and agricultural skills may have been impressive but, according to scientists in Peru, the Incas would have been nothing without good weather induced by climate change. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/environment/climatechange/5916353/Climate-change-helped-the-Incas-build-civilisation.html 4. Climate Changes Affect Ancient Civilizations: The role of climate in the development trajectory of the Near East, Greece, and Rome is discussed here - http://www.suite101.com/content/climate-changes-affect-ancient-civilizations-a107526 5. Climate's Role in Ancient Chinese Civilization A suddenly cold climate about 5,500 years ago coincided with the advent of ancient Chinese civilization, implying some relationship between the two events, Chinese scientists said Monday. http://www.china.org.cn/english/2003/Feb/55500.htm ...One doesn't have to be a genius to know these things. The environment always has consequences on lifestyle and necessity is the mother of invention. One has to be insane to deny either of these two statements. tctrills:You are just talking out of anger and ignorance. Even your own example betrayed you. Mississipi was one of the worst states for education generally thanks to the racist nature of the state. Don't take my word for it- Google it!!. 1. Mississipi improved in black education because they INVESTED in it. They spent money, trained and hired better tutors. 2. For your information, New York still ranks as number 1 in some educational categories. So their money spent is not a total waste as you are insinuating. 3. Keep in mind that you even destroyed your older point on denying systematic racism holding blacks back. Many articles on Mississippi's improvement in black education highlight the racist issues in Mississippi's past. |

GracieX3:I provided you the stats. You are one taking out of ignorance and anger. How can a state with 5x smaller budget haveuch better outcomes for black kids. And you are right, New York comes first in some metrics namely largest spending. But they are below the US average in reading and arithmetic. I don't understand your 3rd point please explain |

raumdeuter:You do realise that I never even talked about how the educational policies were going to be funded? Secondly, you as usual never look at the root cause: poverty. Your brain dead method is to look at the problem and not its causes or solution Married men have higher income. GracieX3:Children raised in single family homes are 5 times more likely to experience poverty. 2 people with low income can live together and create a better life for themselves, because they will combine resources and pay 1 rent, 1 light bill, one internet, One can work extra hours, take extra classes while the other covers at home which end up taking them and their children out of poverty But your own is to Just make excuses excuses. You cant argue with numbers then make it about emotions Stats show that married couples have a 7.5% living in poverty while single mothers have a 35% poverty rate https://ojjdp.ojp.gov/statistical-briefing-book/population/faqs/qa01203 You dont need funding to stay with the woman you chose to birth with

bemeruca:This is the same strategy Buhari deployed only to throw Nigeria into more poverty and corruption.. Buhari screamed that Jonathan had stolen all the money in Nigeria and so embarked on a showbiz corruption war (many of us knew it was all for show).. I see the same MO playing in the US. And knowing how wayo-ish Trump is and also a fraud himself the outcome won’t be different. Who says one can’t clean up a system while a program or initiative is live? Especially when that program benefits a lot of citizens. I am highly disappointed with Nigerians who have experienced most likely the worst form of leadership/government, but cannot perceive the similarities in the Trump administration.
