Nigeria’s political and military history has exploded back into public conversation after former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, made stunning revelations in his newly released autobiography.

In one of the most talked-about parts of the book, Gowon claimed that a young Olusegun Obasanjo once flatly refused to serve under Murtala Muhammed during the Civil War because he believed Murtala was his junior in rank.

According to Gowon, Obasanjo allegedly told him he would “never” serve under Murtala for any reason.

But the drama did not stop there.

In another explosive revelation, Gowon claimed that Biafra leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu secretly pawned Biafra’s mineral wealth to the Rothschild banking family in exchange for foreign-backed support during the Nigerian Civil War.

According to the autobiography, Gowon said the deal was worth around $10 million at the time and was tied to French interests backing the Biafran struggle.

The revelation has already triggered intense reactions online, especially among Nigerians debating the true history of the Civil War and the political relationships between some of the country’s biggest historical figures.

Sounds like odumegwu Ojukwu was the Emiliokan from the Igbos in the 1960s.

Gowon as a head of state with his minister and Regional military governors were there to represent Nigeria together with Ojukwu to represent the eastern region.

FYI, BBC English and Hausa were having two different broadcasts .

Why should Ojukwu refuse the creation of a state that was being clamoured for? He could have asked for a referendum instead and be right but he had no right at all to unilaterally say No if the people wanted it. Other states were created in other parts of the country as well

Then a coup that did not succeed all over the country would still have inevitably ended in a civil war to conclude the coup unless a kind of truce was reached.

If he had agreed to the creation of states, the war may have been avoided

My friend a simple Google search on who this Victor Rothschild is will set you onto the path of the truth ..

ojukwu announced a different agreement and wanted to play smart and they outsmarted him.

Gowon has come out to state that the entire Bakassi affair was due to Ojukwu selling Bakassi in exchange for French military and diplomatic support.

It was not Gowon who sold Bakassi to the French but Ojukwu.
