Given that the peaceful transition of power is a bedrock of democracy thus one of our founding principles, yes, it was/is a very very big deal.

But of course, that you read about years later, you clearly have a better understanding.
And I forgot, of course, you understand the US culture better than anyone.

I can understand a person who simply says that he likes or prefers Trump, or agrees with much of his policies. I mean, not that I see eye to eye with that, but I can understand that to the extent that we are all different. What I cannot get is the absolute worship. The fact that Trump can literally never be wrong. The fact that every word he utters is the living light and gospel truth to them.

I have had to dig up many thoughts on human nature in this regard. And this morning I was just repeating to myself for the umpteenth time that it's just a human thing. After all, billions of people call a Jewish man the creator of the world in the name of religion. Two billion people believe that every word Muhammad uttered was the truth. And many others believe every word that falls from the lips of one religious leader or the other. So perhaps it's just human nature.

Trump has attained deity status in the minds of many people and it's truly creepy. We often joke about the lengths that they would go for him but it is no joke. There are many here who would abandon their family for Trump.

And even though I don't believe in religion either, this phenomenon helps me see that if there were such a thing as the Anti Christ, it would be so very easy for him to be accepted by even Christians. So easy.

When I say education is already there, I am talking about formal education and access to information.

People know corruption is bad. They know tribalism, greed, selfishness, and disunity destroy societies.

This is not some hidden secret that only a university professor can explain.

The problem is not that people have never heard the truth. The problem is that many people know the truth and still choose the wrong thing when money, power, tribe, religion, or personal interest is involved.

See Emefiele as an example. He is not an illiterate man. He is educated, experienced, and had access to every economic expert, etc.

Yet what did that education produce when character, accountability, and national interest were missing?

Education can expose wrong thinking, but education alone does not fix character.

My point is this - the deeper problem is mindset, culture, values, accountability, and unity.

Education helps, yes, but pretending education alone is the magic solution is shallow.

So the issue is not left or right. The issue is whether we are honest enough to admit that our own choices, leaders, culture, greed, and disunity are major reasons for our problems.
