Great take! To effectively do this, he needs to be business oriented. Pick an industry of choice, make research about it. Set up a small online store for lead generation. He will be learning by experimenting with the leads to build useful CRM.

True Chief. Business orientation will be gotten during the learning - picking an industry - niching down too early can sometimes be a shot in one's leg. I'd say make researh about two or three, test the waters, see the one with better/more fishes, then niche.

I don't have all these setup sef, yet I work remotely from home without issue. The main thing is just how operation occur where you work. For me, 3 meeting from Mon - wed, the rest are just WhatsApp chat. So most of the power will be saved and use for work.

I just love the freedom and flexibility that come with working remotely. I can decide to sleep all day and do the task in the midnight, when noise is absolute zero.

Nothing outside of my home interests me and the idea of earning in naira seems a bit un-enough at the moment.
What kind of skills should I acquire in the tech world?

Trust me, I can be patient enough to wait it out till it starts yielding so believe me, I'm not expecting a quick money making scheme kind of impactation. I'm ok with slow and steady, but I want it to be dependable enough that when it picks, then it peaks and will be sustainable.
At the moment, my estate has 20-hour power supply at the minimum. I have; 1) HP ZBook Fury16 G9-Intel Core I7, 16GB Ram and 1T SSD.
2) HP EliteBook 840 G9 16GB Intel Core i7 SSD 512GB.
3) I have a well upgraded HP mini Prodesk cpu (16/512GB).
And a mini power station to keep these running for a few hours if there is ever an outage.


I want to believe these systems should be able to handle any kind of tech duties.

I'm without a job currently and I don't want to even start searching for jobs although I have a few savings to sustain me for a few years since I'm single.
I want to make money legally from the shores of my abode.

Please assist a brother

He should have deduced that he (the OP) is likely to be from a well-to-do family. An estate that has such frequency of power supply can't be just anyhow estate.

It just baffles me how people believe everyone in the world are in their kind of shoe.

There are some families I know that have those kind of PCs at home for anyone in the house to make use of them.

bro I will advise you to start with something easy to approach . Like virtual assistant, customer service remote , business development manager . Something majorly in administrative. At least to earn first and there are several websites to get this , or you can even train ai on platforms like outliers and the likes. Those your machines will work well.

Now when it comes to skills, there are three types of people.

1. The creative
2. The analytical
3. The Seller

If you are on the creative spectrum, I'll recommend you go for motion graphics and a pinch of 3d - specifically for building product demos using After Effects and maybe Cinema4D.

If you're more on the analytical and number crunching side... I'm probably going to err on the side of caution and suggest Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning or start from Data Analysis for Financial/Business Analytics.

If you're the seller personality, I'd suggest you master how to use and help people manage CRM Software - Case in point GoHighLevel - you can actually charge people good money in dollars to help them set up their CRM, Automation Workflow, Funnels and Landing page, there's a ton of them - especially now that everybody is a founder or coach selling one thing or the other.


Personally, when I took this kind of decision about 4 years ago, I went into Programming (Became a MERN Developer); but the programming world is very volatile now and not very promising, especially for entry level.

Wishing you the best.... And while you're flexible in how long you want to spend in learning and waiting till it pays, it helps to tie the goal to a timeline too.

I never said I've been jobless all my life... I said I'm currently without job... It could mean I've just lost a job and not ready to start all over again. No part of that lines means I've been jobless all my life. If I want to be fake, I'll list things that aren't tech related but I have as properties ranging from the kind of car I drive and phones I use but nah, I just need guidance. And those systems are in all honesty, the least of what life has blessed me with. Consider it a very humble brag.

2) Learn digital marketing

Yes. We have AI but in the end, how many people would keep paying for AI pro subscriptions? Just be good at them and be patient, you'll earn money in USD both ways.

12th gen + 1TB no automatically mean beast. 1TB na just storage, not performance.

Even for ZBook line, some configs still carry low-power CPUs and no dedicated GPU and this very one doesn't have it. Workstation branding no equal monster specs.

A real beast depends on CPU class, GPU, RAM, and cooling, not just “12th gen”, "16GB" pasted on the sticker.


Even an older Core i9 with proper RTX graphics and 32GB RAM fit humble that ZBook config easily.

Eg. MSI GT75 Titan 8th Gen Core i9, 32GB RAM, RTX 2080. That machine was built for raw power with serious cooling and full gaming GPU performance.

Or even: MSI GS66 Stealth i9, 32GB RAM, RTX 3080. Different level entirely.

Na older laptops I mentioned above with older generations oooo

That’s why “12th gen + 1TB SSD” no impress tech people automatically. GPU power, wattage, thermals, and sustained performance matter pass generation name.

I think, evidenced by the current shake up in the TECH industry - layoffs and stuff, with some new startups that would often spring up to absorb skilled developers backpedalling due to the uncertainty about AI's disruption - the demand has dropped big time, and the competition is even worse than it has ever been.

Not to even talk about the phantom jobs, 7 rounds of interviews that ends with automated rejection mails.

I guessed right as to what the discouragements could be. However, permit me to advise you to stay strong. Actually, AI is a blessing to skilled developer and not a curse, as it (AI) facilitates Rapid application development.

Now, my advise is for you to learn to identify pain points of existing tech solutions and try to build products that solve those problems. That way, you can have products to market rather than waiting for that employment offer. Your products are more likely to earn you revenue and job offers faster.

One terrible thing about tech skills is that you can easily feel overwhelmed by the vast array of skill options and learning materials. One nice thing about it though is that if you can remain focused and consistent, no matter what you learn the pay will still come.

1)If you are not afraid of rejection or failure and you have some capital, I recommend affiliate marketing, SEO, or lead generation.

2)If you are desperate, and will be ready to do boring, repetitive, and manual jobs, then I recommend learning VA from ALX Africa. Although competition here is huge Indians, Filipinos, and Chinese freelancers are holding these niches on a ransom basis. And most jobs can be boring as hell.

3)If you are more of the logical, and problem-solving type I recommend learning programming most especially Python for automation. Would have recommended web dev but the competition is huge.

4)If you can dedicate at least 3 years to learning and gaining experience without any financial pressure, then I will confidently recommend cybersecurity with a niche focus on pentesting or website/app ethical hacking. A guy I know is earning huge $ from this by freelancing and doing some black hat practice.

5)If you are more of the creative type, then I recommend video editing. There is huge demand for it, you can even focus on content creation and edit videos for YouTubers, businesses, etc.

Among all 5 options, in terms of earning, and ease of scaling option 1, and 5 are the best. But in terms of job security, being an asset option 4 is the best, the major disadvantages of option 4 are:

It is not an entry-level field it requires lots of experience, and learning never stops as such there is a high risk of burnout. But it has lots of opportunities.

The koko is, you can be successful and work remotely with anything you learn, you just have to be focused and remain consistent, by not jumping from one skill to the other. People are even earning money with their stupidity just because they are consistent with it, e.g., some APC supporters on this forum.

HP laptops are very good and durable. I have that is not even the latest model . I purchased it in 2018. Very good laptop with Scandinavian/English keyboard. Norwegian HP laptop 🙂🙂.

Your last paragraph actually just validated the stance I've always taken. I'm more of a builder guy than dependence on corporate jobs with the skills, I've just not had the discipline, i think, to complete any of my attempts at a startup (SaaS).

You're right about AI being a blessing too, but not so much for entry level guys as their own "tasks" are now being automated out and companies are not very keen of training new hires either.

In this age and time of Artificial Intelligence, I'm surprised people are still being advised to go onto full stack dev. I'm a DevOps engineer myself, but if anybody comes to me for an advice now, I'll just tell them find a branch that makes Artificial Intelligence possible, and ride it like your life depends on it. Data Science, Data Engineering, MLOps, Data Analysis, AI Agent developer, Prompt Engineer among others.

While there a lot of courses online that you can follow to learn these things, I find Udacity courses to be very thorough and very hands-on. Just ask anybody who's taken a nanodegree from them.

I usually shy away from giving EXACT skills that a person should learn when it comes to tech... Not because it's hard, but because I might be biased towards recommending what I am passionate about (yes, passion is actually important, because you have to actually want to learn the skill and find it interesting enough to keep going) - instead I'll give some recommendations and you do the research and pursue one.

There are many roles in tech, which you can either break into, or use domain knowledge to decide (e.g someone who has had experience as a Personal Assistant or Secretary may find it easier to go for Virtual Assistant training).

1. If you've been into marketing/sales, you can actually learn about digital marketing, wirh focus on lead generation, paid ads and influencer marketing.

2. If you've been into finance or accounting, then you can learn things like Data Analytics or Data Science.

You get the idea.

Now about where to learn:
It's still up to you - the only time I went to an actual school to learn any of my current skills, was in 2010 when I went to computer school to learn basic computer application - since then, all my learning have been YOUTUBE, UDEMY or free online bootcamp (ALX when it was free).

But if you have the money and time for a physical location, just find around your location.
