My New York Struggles And Adventure (japa Things) by Kalulu44(op): 6:03pm On May 20
My name is Tijani Mohammed, I am from Kaduna state but did my schooling from primary to tertiary institution in Lagos.
I'm the first of a family of 5 with two other siblings of a girl and a boy.
.
Not to bore you guys with my personal details, let me go straight on why we're here.
I graduated from Lagos State University (LASU) in the year 1998. I read Electrical engineering.
Within a year, I was working for a multinational company based in Victoria Island of Lagos.
.
After 6months working for the company, I was selected along with 5 other staffs which includes a lady for a week training at the company's headquarters in New York, USA.
That was when the thought and idea of running away in US started flooding my mind.
.
Within a month, 6 of us documents has been processed and off we are on a plane to God's own Land. That was my first time of ever entering a plane and seeing a white man's land.
We got to JF Kennedy airport in New York on an early Monday morning.
.
We were quickly checked into our hotel room. Thru out that Monday was for sight seeing, we tour new York to the best of our ability. Our tour guide and our head of delegate makes the tour a seamless one.
The next day Tuesday, we were taking to the company's headquarters and the training process began.
.
It was a fruitful first day, cus we learnt a lot which ordinarily we wouldn't have learnt back in Nigeria. In the middle of all this, my Japa or escape route was still on my mind.
It was with a huge schock and rude awakening that we woke up on Wednesday to hear the only female in our miss is nowhere to be found.
.
Chai... See wetin I still dey plan and trying to execute is what a strong hearted female did before me.
Bcus of her disappearance, our one week stay was cut short to 5 days.
We were to return to Nigeria on Monday morning but we were told it will now be on Saturday morning.
So we have or I have two days to still try to do mine.
.
Then came the shocker, all our visas, passports and documents were collected from us. Mehn! How am I going to execute this now, even if I succeed. How can I work and avoid immigration without any of my papers and CVs.
But I was still determine to execute my plans, but truth be told we were given tight and very close marking. No more sight seeing. After the days training, we are to retire to our respective rooms where everything we needed was giving to us except going out.
.
One of us tried coming down from his room to view the streets on Thursday evening. To his surprise a plain clothe security was at the entrance of the hotel who turned him back.
When he came back and told us, that was where I gave up that my plan is gonna fail....
.
Stay tuned to read more on how I finally succeeded and what I went thru to get my green card with the help of a Nigerian girl named Ngozi and her American girlfriend Linda Birch...............

You know one thing about you, you don't know how to appreciate creative minds.
When you heard Tijani Mohammed, you ought to know I created the story. The ones that are real, I stated them clearly.
But be that as it may, this particular story is 40% true and 60% created from my mind to create a great story

Leave that guy, na my person. Him like to dey tease me.
I can swear with all my might that this particular story is actually true.
The name was changed by me, but the original person it happens to was a northerner. The school LASU was also created by me. But the happenstances in New York were true as it can be. And you know as a writer you have to add one or two spices (maggi) to make it sweet.
.
I swear down, the person is a classmate of mine. I had to change his name and the name of the girls he met in New York. But the rest was exactly how he told me it happened when he came back to Nigeria in 2009.
He married the white lady and they're now living together comfortably with 4 grown up kids.
.
Lastly! There's no need telling you guys if it's fiction or not. Once the story is interesting, it leave you guys to be guessing whether it's real or not, which is we writers aim.
I will finish the story today, watch out

Continuation.......
So the D day came for us to come back to Nigeria. It was Saturday morning, 8:30am flight time. We were already at the airport by 7:30am. We were checked in to departure lounge. All hope of my plans has faded.
.
Then at 8:00am, I decided to just have one more try. I took an excuse to use the restroom. And to my surprise, I was granted permission to go without anyone excorting me.
Maybe they thought nobody among us has the interest of running away again or something else I just can't say.
.
I found myself in a large rest room fill with people. I tapped a black dude by the shoulder and asked him if there's an exit out of the restroom apart from the one I came in with. The dude pointed out an exit which I gladly used and found myself outside the airport. All these happened within 5min.
While outside the airport, I quickly located a mosque, where I went to observe my morning prayers. And then wait for the inevitable.
Whether they searched for me or whatever I can't say cus once it was 8:30am, I began to heave a sigh of relief.
.
No international flight or even local flight can delay it scheduled time bcus of one missing person. So I stayed in the mosque, went to were their library is and picked some books to read and while away the time why thinking of my next line of action.
Mind you guys, my luggage and everything in it including my Visa, passports and personal documents have been loaded into the plane.
The only thing with me was the cloth I was wearing and a $100 bill.
.
I stayed at the mosque till it was nightfall. Then I went out to look for something to eat.
With the little tour we did on the first day, I could still find my way around.
Spent some $20 to get a nice meal, then went in search of a night club to while away the night.
.
Saw a night club where I paid $10 to be admitted in. While inside, I sat in one quiet corner thinking about my life.
After some time, I went to the bar and took a whiskey to calm my nerves.
I went back to my corner and was watching guys and ladies of different color and race going in and coming out.
.
I tried to hit the dance floor, but my mind was too preoccupied.
Before I knew it, it was 5am in the morning.
I have already promised myself daylight won't meet me outside.
The fear of immigration is the beginning of wisdom.
I hurriedly sneek back to the mosque on Sunday morning. Repeated what I did the ystday by praying and immersing myself with reading, while also thinking of the way forward for myself.
.
By now my $100 has depleted to $60.
I read, sleep, wake and read again till it was night again.
I stepped out to first go eat something, after which I descended to the same night club again.
While inside the night club, this time I was at the bar having my drinks while watching people having the fun of their life.
.
While having my drinks, a white lady who before was dancing with a black babe, approached me at the bar to come have a dance with her.
Lest I forget, as an Hausa/Fulani man. I was tall and handsome with fair skin.
I politely turned her down, but she insisted.
That she has been watching me closely and felt I was lonely and in a sober mood.
That I should come with her to the dance floor and forget my sorrows for the time being.
.
She stretched out a hand and I took it and she dragged me down to the dance floor.
By then her female black friend was dancing with another dude.
As we were dancing and chatting, she introduced herself as Linda Birch. That she and her friend are bankers, that just came to have some Sunday night fun.
I was like wow! Inside me I thought they were hook up girls.
.
So it was now my turn to introduce myself.
I told her my name is Tijani Mohammed, from Nigeria. That circumstances led me to where I am now. She didn't let me finish the circumstances statement before she exclaimed. Are you a Nigerian? I said yes and ask why she scream.
She just dragged me gently to where her friend is and started calling "Ngozi Ngozi" come and meet your brother, your fellow country man.
.
Guys enjoy this while I will be back to give the juiciest part of the story.............

On getting to where her friend Ngozi was, she dragged her away from the dude she was dancing with and took both of us aside.
She told Ngozi, meet Tijani my new friend who's a Nigerian citizen like you.
Ngozi exclaimed and hugged me warmly.
The rest of the hours we were at the club was all fun and by now my mind was relaxed and anxiety of not knowing what next disappeared from me.
We left the club by 1am Monday morning and they drove me home with one of their car which belongs to Ngozi.
.
We got to a 2 bedroom apartment shared by them at Queens Boulevard.
Honestly I still can't believe this are working class babes and not hookers or call girls.
When we got there, they made feel at home and Linda made a light meal for everybody.
While eating was when Linda opened the conversation of what circumstances I told her earlier on brought me to the club.
I narrated everything as it happened.
Ngozi chipped in, that why did I abandoned such company who could sponsor me to America and may have better plans for me in the near future.
.
I told her, she's right but that I wanted something more and also to pursue the American dream.
She said ok, here I am in America with no papers or documents. How do I intend to start all over again?
I told her I haven't figured out all that yet.
All these while, Linda was just watching me and listening attentively.
.
Then she finally spoke up. Ngozi I think we need to help him or what do you think?
Ngozi said, definitely but that I will have to get off my high horse if I have any and start afresh. I said no problem, I will deal with anything.
We gisted more till 2am till they bade me goodnight cus they have work to go to some hours later that day.
While they retire to their rooms, I slept on the couch in the living room.
.
By 7am, both of them have prepared for work. Linda showed me the kitchen, and told me to prepare whatever I want and also feel at home. But that on no circumstance should I leave the apartment, Ngozi chipped in and said there's no need for that. That they're going to lock the apartment behind me.
Then she moved close to me and for the first time spoke in pidgin English to me.
She said: no be say we dey lock you behind cus we dey fear say you go do something bad to us, but na for your safety against immigration. Sometimes e dey enter their head and dem go just do random raiding.
I told her I fully understand, nothing to worry about.
Then she said in pure English, that when they come back from work, they'll discuss my matter extensively.
.
They left and Linda told me to feel at home and don't be lonely. I have noticed she's taking a liking for me. With the way she always looks at me and quickly stare away when our eyes always met.
Lest I forget guys, their apartment is in the 7th floor of a 23 storey high rise building.
To be continue........

Continuation......
See him mouth like Linda Birch. You dream too much. You even dream pass Joseph the dreamer. In which world woman go meet man wey he nor know and leave am for house go work? Plus who locks a grown man in the house? What if fire start? How he go escape? Lastly, you nor know say these days if them carry stranded Naija man come meet you for Yankee, na to 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♂️ very very far away make the person no come put sand sand for person garri? undecided
