Trump State Dept. Accused of ‘Largest Fee Fraud in History’ of US Immigration System
An immigration researcher at the Cato Institute found that the Trump administration is “raking in billions of dollars in immigration fees and not providing the adjudications that applicants are entitled to.”

The US State Department under President Donald Trump has been accused of stealing more than a billion dollars from immigrants and sponsors in what experts are calling “the largest fraud in the history of the US immigration system.”

A report published last week by the Cato Institute, written by director of immigration studies David J. Bier, found that the State Department and Department of Homeland Security were receiving millions of applications from immigrants whom Trump has made ineligible for legal status and pocketing the fees without ever processing the requests.

“The US government collected over $1 billion in immigration fees then refused to process the applications,” said Austin Kocher, a fellow at Immigration Lab and a professor at Newhouse and Syracuse University in a social media post breaking down the report on Monday. “No denials. No refunds. Just silence.”

The report zeroes in on a series of policies signed by Trump and enacted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) head Joseph Edlow, which have collectively barred nationals from 92 countries from immigrating to the US.

One proclamation signed by Trump in December bans legal entry and most visas for the nationals of 40 nations—including Cuba, Venezuela, Nigeria, Iran, and Haiti—based on nationality. A memo sent by Edlow extended the freeze to many USCIS immigration-benefit applications for people from targeted countries already living in the US, including work authorization and permanent residency filings

Another State Department policy bans visa applications from immigrants in 75 countries from being processed indefinitely, purportedly based on data showing that residents of those countries use welfare at disproportionately high rates.

These policies block more than 320,000 people abroad from entering the US and potentially as many as 561,000 potential permanent residents when those already living in the US are considered.

Although people from these countries are categorically denied immigrant visas and most other visa types under a series of travel bans signed by Trump, the government is still collecting fees for visas, work permits, and green cards.

The report cited evidence that the department has directed consular officers that they “should not counsel applicants or advise them” that they are subject to the bans when they come in for their interviews, because it “could be seen as pre-adjudication.”

Best to stay for less than 6 months. In everything in life try not to go to the max to leave some margin for error. So would recommend she stay for maybe 5 months and a few days or weeks and leave.

Its your choice. You can read through the last few pages and see that no visas have been issued, and then decide for yourself if you want to face all that stress for an almost 99% denial chance

Hello guys!

How difficult is it to get interview date in Lagos?
Once you have all your documents and pay all your fees are there interview slots available or are they all booked up?

Thanks

Thanks for coming back and sharing. Your firsthand experience has cleared up all the nonsense some folks were spewing on the previous thread.

I hope the ban is lifted very soon and wish you all the best if and when you reapply .
Was it a fully funded Masters or PhD program or a pay out of pocket program

Honestly if you have a visa interview this period of the ban and you cannot reschedule, don’t just bother going. It’s paining me that I wasted my time. Even tried to prepare small. Got 2 hours of sleep. Got to embassy by 6am cause my interview was 6.30. Lined up. Did my interview around after 8 and nothing.

It was a waste of my time, I would have rather not even gone at all.

Some people there even had hope that magically they will receive the visa even while clearly seeing interviewers telling people there is a full ban
You need to be specific on what visa you applied for. Is it a visitor’s visa or student visa, and if it’s a student’s visa, was it fully funded?

You guys keep misunderstanding this issue.

No visa is being issued to Nigerians in B1/B2, F, M, or J categories! It is not about if you have been to the US 1000 times or if you have a fully funded scholarship. They WILL NOT give you a visa because of the presidential proclamation, even if you are qualified which the visa officers have been strictly mandated to enforce. The only exception being the national interest clause is not even straight forward as that in itself has to be directly approved by the director of the department of homeland security or the secretary of state and not the visa officer.

But then its a free world, anyone could still apply regardless of the warnings and experience the situation firsthand.

Missed Document Review appointment

Hi guys , I am currently filing for my parents and they recently concluded thier Medicals few weeks ago . Today I decided to just check my mom’s email and I saw that they were invited for “Document Review “ which they already missed. Through out this process, me as the petitioner has always been Cc’ed in all emails by the embassy , not sure why I wasn’t this time , that’s why I missed it . Their interview is coming up in a week , what’s the way forward ?

They attend the interviews with the necessary documents.

Bare in mind due to the partial ban your parents won't be given the Immigrant visa. Once the ban is lifted then the embassy will ask them to return their passports for visas.

They MUST attend their interview though

Please who knows when the six months period will ban will end? My uncle has an interview next month. He's thinking of either moving the date since most people going now are denied,or to go ahead with the interview believing it'll be positive.
Re: USA Visit Visa Part 6 by MsAnonymous: 7:48pm On May 21
Ok so I heard that starting this week, Nigerians can only be admitted into the USA for up to 30 days, you cannot stay for up to 6 months anymore. Those on B1B2 visa.

You should have linked him with yours. You have to start the linking from DS-160. He can only have a separate ds-160 profile but not a separate avits profile . Delete his current profile and start all over.

Thank you. I have had an existing visa before he was born and I won’t be applying for another visa till like next year. How do I go about this? I thought I could set up his own account since I did for the elder sister when she was still a toddler and we got the visa for her. How do I proceed with this pls
