and let me add. SE doesn't need a Seaport as long as there's one in Rivers state, Akwa ibom and Calabar, they're good to go. These states are less than 40 mins from SE States. SE people have been clamouring for sea ports in these states for years btw

It's such a shame that the progress that would have been made was stalled by a name change. Why change the name in the first place? Looking at the other 4 proposed ports you can easily see they are named after the community they're located. But a mischievous person decided to rename the Akwa Ibom port and look at what it has caused.

Before a private player decides the location to invest money, they do a feasibility study first. The outcome of the study will determine whether they should pursue it or not.

You think making money is easy and someone will invest their hard-earned money in a business or place where they cannot regain it or make profits later.

I hope they have resolved the dispute. This is my Jan 23, 2023 post.

Anytime that someone mentions the Lekki Deep Sea Port, someone will mention the Ibom Port and claim that the government or some unnamed people are "frustrating it". They don't name the people, but you have an idea of who they are referring to.

Those people do not know what they are talking about. The problem with Ibom Port reminds me of the issues that stalled the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun and Ondo States.

The new port in Akwa Ibom State was originally called the Ibaka Port and it was meant to have been sited at Ibaka Bay. However, the location was changed in 2014 and it was renamed Ibom Port. See here: https://www.nairaland.com/2051694/controversial-ibaka-seaport-relocated-renamed


The community in the original location (Ibaka) then sued the Akwa Ibom State Government and everybody involved in the project in order to stop the relocation. And that's actually what is delaying construction of the Ibom Port.

China Harbour Engineering Company, the company responsible for both the Lekki Port (remember that I told you that Governor Tinubu went to China and Singaport to seek for investors in the Lekki Free Zone in the year 2000) and the Ibom Port says that it is still interested in the project, but it can't do anything now due to the lawsuit.

So how many years will it take them to finish the case?

I'm from Akwaibom, the deepsea port was supposed to be sited at ibaka, which is in Mbo LGA, the previous govt of Akpabio did the usual political propaganda on it, using the project to loot funds cos for the last 4yrs of his administration, funds were budgeted for that seaport. When udom came in, after series of court cases and settlements from the previous contractors who the govt of Akpabio awarded project of that magnitude to(fashion Designer from northern extraction), they thought it wise to review the location, 3 sites were earmarked for this, ibaka, ibeno, and eastern obolo... At the end eastern obolo if I'm not mistaken was the preferred site to build the seaport.
Investors were sought for to come invest, that's when amaechi the then minister for transportation under buhari the economy killer was playing politics with that project.
He deliberately sat and delayed the approval for the project.
Why I'm i putting all these out here, Private investor will only be called to KEY-IN in the actualisation of the project after the govt must have done their part.
The kolmani oil project in Bauchj was funded by the NNPC, tomorrow if anything comes out of it, they will invite private investor to come in and develop it.

Delta State only houses 3 to 4nos of Sea ports, but, we don't get to hear about them. We keep overburden the already burdened Lagos. I really don't get it

The Ibaka Deep Seaport was conceived by the administration of Governor Godswill Akpabio. It was to be located in Ibaka.

The administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel changed the location of the port and therefore changed its name to Ibom Port (since it will no longer be in Ibaka). The administration said that their Chinese experts said that the location in Ibaka was not suitable.

The community alleged that Governor Emmanuel had ulterior motives for changing the location and that the Chinese experts had already said that Ibaka was perfect for the port. Therefore the community sued the Akwa Ibom State Government, the Federal Government, the contractor and everybody involved in the project.

Thank you my brother from my side. You have said exactly what many of us wanted to but we couldn't come out straight. I see no reason why we can't have deep sea port in Onitsha or Anam, the water there are deep enough.

crying foul in everything has become you people past time. thank God, una one time Messiah, Goodluck Jonathan was president for good 6 years and he didn't know that there are water bodies elsewhere other than lagos to develop.

Lagos is overburdened already, adding more seaport to Lagos is not helping the state but killing it. They should focus on building excellent cargo rail from existing Lagos seaports to states like:

Kano
Anambra (Onitsha)
Kogi
Adamawa


It will reduce the burden of loads on Lagos roads which causes traffic congestion and fast road wear. But with cargo railways from Lagos ports to other commercial states, movement of cargo containers will be swift and the loads on Lagos roads will be reduced, traffic will also drop.

Leave Lagos alone.
Go and develop your region

The government is not spending a kobo on the project (except for the land that will be provided by the Lagos State Government). It will be funded by the private sector.

It’s a private investments. You can’t tell private investors on how and where to put their money at..

Fg own is to make approval tell your lazy state gov to built or invite private investors

All above port not a single naira from fg

State is meant to donate land and fund or donate land and look for private investors to build with their money

I think Aso Rock will likely green light the projects. As for where will it get started first, it's still hard to say. Probably Akwa Ibom, because besides the fact that they have been on that whole case for a while now and it's dragging by its feet it looks more and more plausible.. With the development around the Coastal Road there's a possibility it will be the first.

Understandably all the projects can't all be happening simultaneously. It will be ludicrous to even try to. And according to the recent interview granted by the President in the African Forum saw it on YouTube few hours ago. He did mention one of his philosophy in governance is engaging in Audacious Infrastructural Projects. He sighted the government support for the Dangote Refinery, and even goes further as to his approval on issuing an executive order that crude should be sold to the Dangote Refinery in Naira instead of wasting much time with FX bureaucracy and all that. He also cited the Coastal Road development and specifically mentioned Calabar, that may in some ways attract and boost investors confidence. Even if that will likely be after the election.

The interviewer also highlighted that is he looking forward to doing his best in the first 2 years after re-election which he didn't particularly bite more into even with reference to Bill Clinton doing his best work in the first 2 years of his second term and also Former President Obasanjo with his reforms.. He touched on Trump's boldness and made a reference to Nigeria being the Big brother in the Western hemisphere of Africa and the Fat Lady in Africa as a whole, i.e grandma I think that's the metaphor, that like the Fat Lady everyone still has to dance to her tunes when she plays.

It was a short interview but he did made mention of some points about audacious projects and these doesn't seem like a coincident gearing towards election and his possible re-election campaign flagship project.
