Xenophobia: Many Nigerians Prefer To Die In South Africa Than Return Home — Obi by dre11(op): 11:45am On May 26
Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has lamented the worsening condition of Nigerians abroad, revealing that many citizens facing xenophobic attacks in South Africa would rather remain there than return home.

Obi, who just returned to the country, raised the concerns at a dinner organised for NDC aspirants in Abuja on Monday.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the NDC media team.

He said despite efforts to facilitate the return of distressed Nigerians from South Africa, many rejected the offer, insisting that conditions in Nigeria were worse.

“I just came back last night from South Africa. You know what Nigerians are going through in South Africa and so many other African countries,” Obi said.

“I finally addressed Nigerians. I told them that if we had things working in our country the way they should be, most of you wouldn’t be here.

“If you don’t know, we provided facilities for them to come back. But most of them told me they would rather die there than come back. They said things are even worse at home.”

Obi said he met with political leaders and former South African President Thabo Mbeki to seek improved relations between South Africans and other African nationals.

“I took time to sit down with three ministers who are leaders of their own parties to plead with them about how things can work between South Africans and other African nationals, and we had a very fruitful discussion,” he added.

The former governor also faulted the Federal Government over what he described as its failure to support Nigerians facing hardship abroad.

“It is not only in South Africa that Nigerians have problems, but they have problems in other countries. I have had the opportunity to speak to leaders in those countries.

“I have had cause to ask them if our government has visited and the answer is no. If your country is not there for you, who will care for you? Is it an outsider?” he queried.

Obi further lamented the country’s deteriorating security situation, despite Nigeria’s historical role in global peacekeeping operations.

“Nigeria played a role in securing nations since the Second World War. We have been part of peacekeeping and commanded United Nations peacekeeping forces globally.

“But today, Nigeria cannot secure itself. This is unacceptable,” he said.

Meanwhile, NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson has explained why the party could not deploy electronic voting for its primaries as planned earlier.

According to him, the platform and application for the process were already ready but required further testing to avoid technical glitches.

“After now, any other primary in the NDC for the next three months upward, and certainly by the next round of elections, every registered voter will start using their phone to vote,” Dickson stated.

“That is the direction that even the Nigerian general elections should be heading. And the NDC, as usual, will innovate and show the way in that area.”

He added that the NDC was not being built as “a special purpose vehicle for any human being” but as a party founded on ideology and service.

Also speaking at the event, former Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Buba Galadima, urged aspirants who may not secure tickets to remain loyal to the party.

“The time pushed on us by the APC government through the National Assembly is not a friend of the NDC,” Galadima said.

“If you are about two to 17 aspirants in any constituency, you must bear in mind that only one of you can have the opportunity to fly the flag.”

This is sad reality. Is not politics. Nigerians can endure and the harshest community anywhere in the World than return home.
Sometimes, this decision is because they fear returning with nothing.

Let the government of the day make the country appealing to the indigens. They say no, but just after their selfish interest.

Bro I have realized one thing, whether it's Peter Obi or his supporters, don't just get emotional about their statements as they are naturally insensitive set of people

They don't bother to reflect on their own actions. Over a decade ago, I started practicing something which have been working, even on decisions or thoughts I am yet to execute.

I have to rethink it properly because you see in this life heh, if it's about having ideas, having vision, having dreams as we all possessed the ability, everybody would have been rich but things don't just work that way as there are some factors we always miss in our thoughts

Babablu bulabu.

Anambra is using same currency like all states. And your Tinubu that forfeited drug money in USA has used high inflation to inflict pains in all states.

South Africa bury the dead in Cemetery
They don't do it like Nigeria where you bury the dead in his village compound.

I'm SA, as a Foreigner you pay 4.8 million naira (3500$) For a burial spot in cemetery.

Then if you want to send the body back to Nigeria via flight is 6.8 million (5000$)

Compared to Nigeria where 2 million is enough for a standard burial unless you want to show off that you be Odogwu.

My only issue is
It is not honourable to be buried in the land of strangers.
The most befitting burial is the one where they are buried in their ancestors land their fore father land.
Your Ancestors will gladly receive you

But getting buried in a foreign land
You are detached from your Ancestors
You are now bonded with a hostile ancestors of the strange land.

That is why all big men make sure their body is laid to rest in the same soil his ancestors were layed in. That is the perfect ending.

Anambra doctors call off strike after 13 months
February 28, 2012

After over a year of down tools, Anambra State Government employed medical doctors have finally called of strike.
According to Dr. Emma Ekwesianya, Chairman Anambra State chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), the striking doctors decided to pick up tools again because of the plight of the ordinary people in the societ.
“It is true, we have called off the strike. We have just signed the agreement with government about an hour ago. The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) signed for the government. A technical committee, headed by Prof. O.O. Mbonu was set up to execute the agreement.” He confirmed.

“We decided to take the 60 per cent offered by government because of our people. Government has been rigid and we do not want to continue with the rigidity of government. We are serving the people, not government and our people are suffering.”
Speaking further, Ekwesianya, revealed that a technical committee, headed by Prof. O.O. Mbonu had also been set up by the association to see to the implementation of the agreement with government sequel to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Peter Obi-led government on Monday.

Chief Medical Director, Anambra State University Teaching Hospital (ASUTH), Amaku, Awka, Dr. Lawrence Ikeakor also confirmed the new development: “Well I’m happy to tell you that the strike has been amicably resolved, even though, like you said, it’s been a prolonged one but suffice it to say that it has been resolved and the doctors have resumed work.”
“The call off was yesterday (Sunday). The doctors had some negotiations and held their congress yesterday, during which they agreed to call off the strike. So they resumed duty today.
They are in their clinic. Well, I was not privy to the agreement but I will say that our representatives were satisfied with the arrangement, hence they decided to call off the strike.” He disclosed.

Just like many of the people you ruled as Governor prefer to kpai in Lagos than go back to the East.

As a matter of fact, under Peter Obi as Governor of Anambra, when Fashola deported beggars to Onitsha, they said Fashola wanted them to die in the Anambra.

Living in Anambra under Peter Obi was a death sentence.

Bitter truth...many Nigerians will readily kpai abroad than consider coming back to what they view as hell on earth....goes a long way to show you how terrible the country has become especially under this APC leadership.
Re: Xenophobia: Many Nigerians Prefer To Die In South Africa Than Return Home — Obi by Basicend: 1:25pm On May 26
To be honest, the current ruling party has destroyed this country so terribly.

A country where it's citizens are killed everyday in mass, coupled with serial kidnappings, cutting of heads, hands and bodies of fellow human beings have become the order of the day due to political and religious guise.

To even worsen the case, more than 85% of Nigerians currently sees eating 3 square meals as a luxury. They can't even dream of a balanced diet.

For a long time, I have been an advocate of d idea of staying in Nigeria, but this stark insecurity issue is far beyond terrible to behold.

Tinubu gave Lagos a poverty rate of 69%.

Now he's president, he is spreading the poverty nationwide.

South Africa is toxic, unfair to foreigners, neither is Nigeria Fair to foreigners..
Insecurity, poor infrastructure development, high cost of living, internally displaced people, excessive Government loans, political Betrayal of all manner Just to survive..
Let them live and die in South Africa.
They have a valid reason.
Re: Xenophobia: Many Nigerians Prefer To Die In South Africa Than Return Home — Obi by Cherrybae(f): 1:28pm On May 26
Obi is just too emotional. Nothing presidential about him.

A man who governed a State for 8yrs, how is Anambra today.

Why are his people in Anambra relocating to other states for a greener pastures.

The truth is that obi cannot even win the presidential election.

He has no legacies, he doesn't even campaign or boast of his achievements as a governor for 8yrs.

Obi will be thought a lesson in 2027. He will understand politics come 2027.

Despite facing severe challenges abroad, such as high living costs, systemic racism, and harsh working conditions, many Nigerians refuse to return home. The primary deterrents include a insecurity, lack of reliable infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, and economic instability within Nigeria.
