MODERN EXAMPLES (POST CIVIL RIGHTS ACT)

While the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 dismantled de jure (legal) segregation, the modern era since 1970 has seen the emergence of policies, institutional practices, and state-supported actions that have continued to disproportionately hinder the economic, social, and political progress of Black Americans.

Here are ten prominent instances from the modern era:

1. The Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986 (The 100-to-1 Sentencing Disparity)

Passed by Congress during the "War on Drugs," this federal legislation established a massive sentencing disparity between crack cocaine and powder cocaine. Possession of just five grams of crack (more prevalent in lower-income Black communities) triggered a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison, while it required 500 grams of powder cocaine (more prevalent in wealthier white communities) to trigger the same sentence. This state policy fueled mass incarceration and decimated generations of Black families and local economies.

2. State-Sanctioned "Stop-and-Frisk" Policies

In the 1990s and 2000s, municipal governments—most notably in New York City—instituted aggressive policing policies that permitted officers to detain and search pedestrians based on vague standards of "reasonable suspicion." Federal court data later revealed that the overwhelming majority of those stopped were innocent Black and Latino men. The policy institutionalized racial profiling, disrupted daily life, and created systemic barriers to employment and education through arbitrary misdemeanor arrests.

3. Predatory Subprime Lending and Regulatory Failure (Pre-2008 Financial Crisis)

During the 2000s housing boom, federal regulators (including the Federal Reserve and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) failed to police discriminatory marketing by major financial institutions. Banks intentionally targeted stable Black neighborhoods with high-fee, high-risk subprime mortgages, even when the borrowers qualified for safer prime loans. When the market crashed in 2008, it triggered the largest loss of generational wealth for Black Americans in modern history.

4. Modern Voter Suppression Laws and the Gutting of the Voting Rights Act (2013–Present)

Following the Supreme Court’s 2013 decision in Shelby County v. Holder, which struck down the federal oversight provision of the Voting Rights Act, dozens of state legislatures passed restrictive voting laws. These state-level policies included strict photo ID requirements, the purging of voter rolls, and the closure of polling places in predominantly Black precincts. Federal courts later found some of these laws, such as North Carolina's 2013 omnibus election law, targeted Black voters "with almost surgical precision."

5. Municipal Revenue Generation Through Predatory Fines (The Ferguson Model)

As highlighted by a 2015 U.S. Department of Justice investigation into Ferguson, Missouri, local municipalities across the country shifted toward using their police departments and court systems as revenue-generating entities. City policies mandated aggressive ticketing and fine collection for minor municipal code violations, disproportionately targeting Black residents. Failure to pay led to arrest warrants, trapping low-income individuals in a cycle of debt and court-ordered poverty.

6. The Judicial Architecture of Qualified Immunity

Though originally introduced in 1967, the modern, highly restrictive framework of qualified immunity was solidified by the Supreme Court in the 1980s (Harlow v. Fitzgerald, 1982) and expanded in subsequent decades. This judicially created doctrine protects state actors, particularly law enforcement officers, from liability in civil lawsuits unless they violate "clearly established" law. In practice, federal courts have used it to shield officers from financial accountability for excessive force, leaving Black victims of police brutality with little recourse for justice.

7. Discriminatory Administration of COVID-19 Relief (The Paycheck Protection Program, 2020)

When the federal government launched the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to save small businesses during the pandemic, the Small Business Administration channeled the funds through mainstream banks rather than community lenders. Because of historical biases and banking deserts, Black-owned businesses lacked established relationships with these major institutions. Academic and federal audits revealed that Black applicants were disproportionately denied or delayed in receiving aid, causing a higher rate of permanent business closures in Black communities.

8. The 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act

The largest crime bill in U.S. history, signed into federal law in 1994, provided billions of dollars in federal funding to states to build prisons and hire more officers, provided that the states passed "truth-in-sentencing" laws to keep inmates locked up longer. The policy heavily incentivized states to increase incarceration rates and eliminate parole opportunities, which disproportionately removed Black men from the workforce and community development.

9. Structural Inequity in State Public School Funding Formulas

Throughout the modern era, the majority of U.S. states have continued to rely heavily on local property taxes to fund public education. Because historical federal policies (like redlining) depressed property values in Black neighborhoods, this state-approved funding mechanism guarantees that schools serving Black children receive billions of dollars less in funding annually than schools serving white children, entrenching educational and economic inequality.

10. Environmental Racism and State Infrastructure Planning

State and federal agencies have routinely approved the placement of chemical plants, toxic waste sites, and heavy industrial infrastructure in or adjacent to historic Black communities. A prominent modern example is "Cancer Alley" in Louisiana, where successive state administrations granted permits to dozens of petrochemical plants along a 100-mile stretch of the Mississippi River populated largely by Black residents, leading to catastrophic health outcomes and plummeting property values.

Thank you for that question. I am writing an article on that exactly and will make it the subject of a thread here.

Allow me to proffer my most profound, unfeigned gratitude for the intellectual stimulation engendered by your exceedingly pertinent, perspicacious inquiry. It may interest your sensibilities to learn that I am currently immersed in the laborious, painstaking composition of an analytical treatise addressing precisely this selfsame, idiosyncratic subject matter.

Furthermore, it is my distinct, unyielding intention to subsequently transmute these impending, labyrinthine literary endeavors into a comprehensive, multi-part digital chronicle—a sequential, grand tapestry of dialectic discourse, if you will—to be meticulously unfurled upon this very electronic forum for the collective edification, cogitation, and intellectual enrichment of all assembled.

I’ll give you an example from healthcare. Historically, most medical studies have been done with white patients in mind. A lot of skin diseases do not have adequate representation in black populations.

Therefore, we are training doctors that can identify certain dermatological conditions on white people but can’t in black patients. We can’t blame them because that’s who they learned to treat. But we can’t let ourselves keep being disadvantaged.

We have black psychiatrists that don’t understand black struggles. The stories they hear about black families don’t make sense to them and they can’t apply a black patient’s background into perspective when treating them.

Black moms are 3x more likely to die in childbirth because conditions and social determinants of health that disproportionately affect us are not well understood by white healthcare providers.

For this reason, a platform called “find a black doctor” where black patients can go and search for black doctors was created. It’s supposed to help black patients find healthcare providers who they feel might be more understanding of their background and specific experiences that contribute to their medical conditions.

A white dermatologist is suing this “find a black doctor” platform because he feels it discriminates against him as a white provider. Bear in mind he most likely cannot differentiate between mere ashiness in a black patient versus true cyanosis as a result of oxygen deprivation. Cyanosis does not present as a bluish hue on black skin as it does on white skin. Instead the patient will appear gray. White doctors who aren’t culturally competent can’t tell the difference.

Another example was when a black woman once had a psych evaluation placed on her simply because she was slapping her scalp at her doctor’s office. When asked afterwards, she said she was simply scratching her braids with the gentle slaps because she didn’t want to mess up her hair. I as a black woman will immediately recognize what that is, if a woman does it in my presence. An old white man will not. That’s why representation matters.

What we need is for people to lay off the measures that have been put in place to correct these historical and presently ongoing problems. To stop calling it reverse racism because that’s not a thing.

And we need under-educated black people to stop aligning with racists to undermine the efforts.

Are you going to include Joe Biden was the chief architect of the 5g crack cocaine law .
He later charged stance , Hunter Biden confessed to being permanently high on crack . When he couldn't get someone to sell him. crack he would take parmesan cheese crumbs he found on the floor.
That's Hunter Biden own admission. not my creation.

Sometimes it's not good to wish the worst for others , Joe Biden pushed to literally execute anyone with 5g or more if crack , only for his ivy league son to fall into it.

Your excuses for blacks is too long.
Michael Jackson family wasn't affected by all those factors. Most of Michael Jackson money came rom whites during the early period when racist barriers had not been debated extensively. Also shows like Cosby, Different Strokes and entertainers such as Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Morgan Freeman ,Martin Lawrence etc?
They were exempt from those white oppressive laws?
These white racists made a lot of blacks very wealthy . They filled concerts and sports arenas to cheer the blacks and bought merchandise.
Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by cococandy(f): 1:42pm On May 26
Yea. Nigerian issues are uniquely different than American issues. And Yes I agree. it is quite hypocritical for one to be tribalistic and condemn a racist. I’ve never understood tribalism anyway. I mean I kinda get it, but at the same time I don’t understand why anyone in this day and age still discriminates against others for who they are, where they’re from etc etc.

Which is why I could never be conservative. They’re too hung up on isms, differences and condemnation of others who aren’t like them. Most African tribalists have a conservative world view. They can’t wrap their minds around people being different from them and deserving just as much respect and consideration as they themselves do. In fact, it would be crazy to see a liberal-minded African who’s also tribalistic. Those are mutually exclusive states of mind.

As far as racism towards Asians, I’ll say the lighter or more white passing you are in America, the likelihood of racism against you dropping. If for nothing , just for the sheer fact that it’s a prejudice based on skin color. For example, a racist cop can spot a very dark skinned driver from far away and proceed to stop them for no reason (happens a lot). Less likely if you are light or white from afar. Just a tiny example.

So it makes sense to believe Asians might experience lesser racism than Africans. I mean it can’t be worse than chattel slavery and the sequela from that ancestral experience.

Not even sure how any black person celebrates Republicans purposefully trying to dilute black representation.

A panel of federal judges on Tuesday rejected Alabama’s effort to use a new voting map for the November midterm elections, saying that the districts discriminated against Black people and could not be used so shortly before a vote.

“We cannot see our way clear to requiring Alabamians to cast their votes in the 2026 elections under a districting plan tainted by intentional race-based discrimination,” the panel of three judges wrote in a lengthy ruling. It also warned against causing voters additional confusion by trying to use a new map before the November elections.

The court, the panel wrote, was “painfully aware of the gravity of our ruling.” But, it added, “we do not find the issue particularly complex or close.”

Black Pastor calls out Democrat.
PASTOR MANNING GOES OFF ON DEMOCRATS FOR DESTROYING BLACK FAMILIES AND MASCULINITY

Pastor Manning unleashed on the Democrat Party during his sermon, drawing liberal backlash for telling hard truths.

“I’m tired of the Democrat Party making b**ches out our women and p***ies out our men,” Manning declared. “I’m tired, but I’ve had enough of it!”

He called for real manhood and accountability: “The man needs to stand up and be a man! Stand up and take back our community! Stand up and tell the truth! Al Sharpton need to go! He need to be off television tomorrow, he needs to go!”

Manning highlighted the broken homes: “You look at children that are suffering, ain’t got no daddy. And watching mama and some n**** she dragged in off the street having s*x, cause all they got is that one room. Daughter’s watching.”

If you want to know that liberals are just evil people. This sermon cannot be aired on mainstream media that they control. Should the pastor be caught up in any scandal , the media will vilify him 24/7.
Sick people.

Trump explained exactly what happened with Obama and IRAN:

"This should have been done by Obama. He went the other way. He was giving him cash. He sent plane loads of Boeing 757, took the seats out and put green, green cash, 1.7 billion in the plane. Every bank in Virginia, DC, and Maryland was stripped of their cash. They took out all the cash on the banks!"

"They put it into a plane. A Boeing 757 packed with cash. And they flew it to Iran and they let these guys just, I don't know what the hell they did with it, but they took it and then gave them billions and billions of dollars and bribed them basically to be friends."

"And after giving them tens of billions of dollars, they screwed Obama, okay? That's not the way we play. No, we do it the old-fashioned way."

Obama is a traitor.

What have I been saying here.

EUROPE WAKES UP TO CHINA THREAT AFTER YEARS OF ANTI-AMERICA DELUSIONS

European leaders are finally admitting what many warned about for years: blind dependence on Communist China is a strategic disaster in the making.

After rushing to join Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative and chasing cheap Chinese goods, solar panels, electric vehicles, and rare earth minerals, the EU is now scrambling to “de-risk.” Italy, the only G7 nation to sign on, has now withdrawn and called the move a mistake.

The article notes Europe’s shift from obsessing over “strategic autonomy” from the United States to fearing China’s economic leverage. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned that China holds enormous power over the continent.

European officials see echoes of their catastrophic reliance on Russian energy, which left them vulnerable when Putin invaded Ukraine. Now they fear repeating the same error with Beijing, especially after China’s “no limits” partnership with Russia and dominance in critical supply chains.

Brussels is responding with new tariffs on Chinese goods and subsidies for domestic industries, but the damage from years of naive engagement is already done.

Europe spent years badmouthing American strength and pushing to reduce dependence on Washington. Now reality is hitting hard as they confront the true cost of tying their future to an authoritarian regime in Beijing.

Trump views China as the threat not Russia. The Russia Ukraine war instigated by the greedy EU elites who want a Russia regine change , so that they can control it's vast resources.
EU has made the cost of energy exorbitant, cutting off cheap Russia. energy then blocking coal and nuclear energy development means their factories cannot compete with China the biggest polluter and emitter of the so called green house gases .
Ironically EU vehicle manufacturers buy carbon credits from China's BYD to offset their Internal Combustion Engines tax. BYD uses those same carbon credits to subsidize their vehicles dumped into the EU market.

No black person has lost their ability to vote. Every black person can still go out to vote. Today thousands of black people are going out to vote in Texas.

Most black reps are from majority white districts anyways

The same way it was impossible to create a red district Alabama will make it impossible to create a blue district

Which racist south are you talking about? This isnt 100yrs or 200yrs ago

Check the date its 2026 and illegal to draw districts based on race according to the SCOTUS.

Now the South will ensure they have as many blue seats as New England have red seats

After that we can now ban national gerrymandering

It's called math.
Math makes it impossible to create a red district in Massachussetts.
But we understand your struggles with Math.

Abstract
Republican candidates often receive between 30% and 40% of the two-way vote share in statewide elections in Massachusetts. For the last three Census cycles, Massachusetts has held 9–10 seats in the House of Representatives, which means that a district can be won with as little as six percent of the statewide vote. Putting these two facts together, it is striking that a Massachusetts Republican has not won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1994. We argue that the underperformance of Republicans in Massachusetts is not attributable to gerrymandering, nor to the failure of Republicans to field House candidates, but is a structural mathematical feature of the actual distribution of votes observable in some recent elections. Several of these elections have a remarkable property in their vote patterns: Republican votes clear 30%, but are distributed so uniformly that they are locked out of the possibility of representation. Though there are more ways of building a valid districting plan than there are particles in the galaxy, every single one of them would produce a 9–0 Democratic delegation.

The same type of Math that made Blue states draw out snake like figures to remove red seats will be deployed

Dont cry yet . First to do no dey pain

When the South matched New England zero red seats we will ban gerrymandering
More lying.
Now New England has 0 red seats. Next it will be all Democratic States have 0 red seats.

Black representation is not equal to Democratic representation

Now a Black lady will represent Memphis after 20yrs of a white man Democrats. I know its the white man you are crying for

A Tim Scott will represent South Carolina statewide
A Byron Donald will govern Florida statewide

You should spare your tears for the Black people who the democrats are forcing white people on
This is what Raumdeuter is supporting.
This is what a 3 Judge panel consisting of 2 Trump appointees wrote.
Raumdeuter is more racist against blacks than 2 Trump appointees. Let that sink in.

Meanwhile, is it not hypocrisy for tribalistic Nigerians to talk about racist whites?
It would be. Especially if those sort of people do not understand that tribalism and racism are about the same bigoted discrimination against others.

Thankfully, we are not all tribalistic or and racist.
