Elusive001:You can't force people to contest. It is either you show interest or your community asks you to represent them but as per if Yorubas are in the East, publicly available data show that up to one percent of dollar millionaires in the East are Yorubas |

MEGAWATCH:Awo was not in the NCNC. He was entitled to be Premier in his own region. It is not right to say Awo was wrong to have an ambition to be Premier of the west just because an Igbo man in another party had the same ambition. He probably had the ambition before going to London to study law The idea that all Yoruba should have shelved their ambition of being Premier in their own region because of Azikiwe is very very pedestrian |

ayoncox:In other words, people from SW have to be begged or forced to run for office outside their regions. Is that not something that is up to the individuals? Some of you lack commonsense. |

lawani:But some Yorubas are in UK contesting for various positions and if they have this kind of mentality, I wonder if they will not send your people home. That same period you were talking about was when the first mayor of Enugu was a Northerner and everything changed immediately Awolowo introduce trabalism into Nigerian politics. |

Atlantis585:Do you want them to be boasting of having taken over a state where they can't win even one percent of elective posts? However in this Nigeria, Igbos have not necessarily won more elections nor been given more political appointments outside their land than the Yoruba. It is only the approach that is different and in a place like the North there are whole compounds in different cities established by ancient Yorubas whose descendants are now indigenes of those cities as they no longer have known relatives in Yoruba land. |

MEGAWATCH:Open your brain and understand. It would be wrong for a Yoruba person contesting to be Premier of the East to be accusing Igbos contesting against him from another party of tribalism, it may even be wrong if they are in the same party because are they his slaves to not be able to contest in their own region?. You claim a Yoruba was elected in PH. Were Igbos not elected in Lagos? Even Ijaws were elected in Lagos as well as Calabar but a Yoruba elected in PH as a councilor or Mayor to you means Yoruba must let Igbo be their Premier?. To determine their fate?. What did Azikiwe ever do for the Yoruba to merit that honor? There were PhD holders in Yoruba land at that time who were old enough to be Azikiwe's father. In an Ijesa state, an Ibadan man can not just come and say Ijesas must be nationalists and make an Ibadan the governor when the Ibadan have their own governor already and the Ibadan are directly in competition with the Ijesa. I think this is basic common sense but you don't understand it. Before 1951 shortly after the death of Macaulay, the NCNC turned against the Yoruba in the Nigerian railways and etc also with Azikiwe's newspapers and the Yoruba would have preferred a British man to be their Premier than Azikiwe or why an Igbo man and not a British man? What is the essence of the new independence? All these are easy to reason out. Then if I were a member of Awolowo's family I would sue you for damages for calling my ancestor a bad name for doing no wrong or for pursuing a legitimate ambition. However if they were in the same party and Azikiwe was his party leader you would have been making a tiny bit more sense In conclusion the idea that no one should have opposed Azikiwe or that anyone with an ambition same as his is a tribalist is not well thought out |
