When terrorists capture your police and soldiers, they execute them. When your government capture terrorists and bandits, they REHABILITATE them as repentant. And even integrate them into the military and police. The result? It's only a matter of time before there are more bandits and terrorists than there are soldiers and police. In reality, the remaining soldiers and police would have no motivation to fight since they're practically fighting on all sides. Seen and unseen enemies/ The sort of nonsense you only find in Nigeria. Tell the black man that he doesn't have the capacity for self-governance and he'd argue. |

THEIR STATUES AND PAINTINGS ARE ALL OVER INDIA, CHINA, JAPAN, AND EUROPE TILL TODAY, AND EUROPEANS FROM SPAIN TO PORTUGAL TO NETHERLANDS TO IRELAND TO ITALY TO SCOTLAND HOLD ANNUAL FESTIVALS WHERE THEY DON AFRICAN COSTUMES AND PAINT THEIR FACES BLACK TO COMMEMORATE THE ERA OF BLACK RULE, WHICH PULLED THEM OUT OF THEIR DARK AGES, INTO THEIR RENAISSANCE, WHICH WAS THE SPRINGBOARD OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION. Sheuns:THAT WAS NOT A FULL-FLEDGED UNIVERSITY UNTIL 1962. AREN'T YOU ASHAMED? THE BRITISH RULED YOU FOR A CENTURY AND AT INDEPENDENCE YOU ONLY HAD ONE WRETCHED ''UNIVERSITY COLLEGE''. FINISH! IN THE 60 YEARS OF BLACK RULE, WE HAVE BUILT OVER 300 UNIVERSITIES. HOW DARE YOU ELEVATE COLONIAL ROBBERY OVER OUR RAPID POST-COLONIAL DEVELOPMENT? Oldest power station in Nigeria, Ijora (1923)Oh for goodness sake. 🙄... A 20 megawatts colonial TOY station that powered mostly IKOYI where the colonialists were staying. The rest of NIGERIA WAS IN DARKNESS UNTIL INDEPENDENCE IN 1960. The few lit up areas were in GRAs in places like Enugu and Kano were the colonial officers lived, and were powered by imported industrial generators. THERE WAS NO NATIONAL GRID AT INDEPENDENCE. OUR FIRST REAL POWER STATION WAS KAINJI DAM, BUILT IN 1964. Oldest primary school in Nigeria, St, Thomas Anglican Nursery and Primary school, Badagry (1843)ALL OVER WHERE? STOP LYING. ALL WE HAD WAS A TINY HANDFUL OF ''MISSIONARY SCHOOLS'' - 'St Thomas this. St Peter that.' USELESS SCHOOLS BUILT BY ENGLISH PASTORS who insisted we abandon our AFRICAN RELIGION and get ''baptised'' INTO THEIR STUPID, FAKE RELIGION before enrolment. THAT IS WHY LITERACY RATE WAS BARELY 15% AFTER A CENTURY OF COLONIAL RULE, COMPARED TO OVER 70% today WITHIN 60 YEARS OF BLACK RULE. SO STATISTICALLY, WITHOUT INDEPENDENCE IN 1960, FOLLOWING WHICH THOUSANDS OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS WERE BUILT NATIONWIDE BY BLACK NIGERIAN GOVERNMENTS, YOU AND EVERYONE YOU KNOW WOULD TODAY BE VILLAGE ILLITERATES! Here is a brief AI account on JUST HOW FAR NIGERIA HAS COME SINCE INDEPENDENCE. .... NIGERIA'S JOURNEY Nigeria's journey since independence in 1960 is a story of remarkable social transformation, despite continuing economic and developmental challenges. At independence, Nigeria was a largely rural nation of about 45 million people. Today, in 2026, it is home to approximately 235 million people, making it the most populous country in Africa and one of the largest countries in the world. The health of Nigerians has improved dramatically over the past six decades. In 1960, life expectancy was only about 37 years, meaning that the average Nigerian could expect to live little more than three decades. By 2024–2026, life expectancy had risen to about 55 years, an increase of nearly two decades. This improvement reflects advances in healthcare, vaccination programs, disease control, sanitation, and access to medical services. Child survival has seen some of the most significant gains. Around 1960, infant mortality was estimated at roughly 190 deaths per 1,000 live births, meaning nearly one in five babies died before reaching their first birthday. By 2026, that figure had fallen to approximately 54 deaths per 1,000 live births. Under-five mortality has also declined from over 300 deaths per 1,000 births to around 100 per 1,000 births. Although these figures remain high by global standards, they represent one of the most important improvements in the quality of life of ordinary Nigerians. Education has expanded enormously since independence. In 1960, only about 15–20 percent of adults were literate. Today, adult literacy is approximately 62–70 percent, with millions more children attending school than at any point in Nigerian history. Primary school enrolment has increased from less than 40 percent of children in 1960 to over 90 percent today. Universities have grown from essentially one major institution at independence to more than 250 universities across the country. Nigeria has also become far more urbanized. In 1960, only about 15 percent of Nigerians lived in cities. Today, roughly 55 percent live in urban areas. Cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Ibadan have expanded into major economic and cultural centers. Access to electricity has increased from less than 5 percent of the population at independence to roughly 60 percent today, while telecommunications have advanced from virtually non-existent services in 1960 to widespread mobile phone and internet access. Economically, Nigeria's overall GDP has grown from roughly $4 billion in 1960 to around $250 billion today. However, because the population has increased more than fivefold, improvements in income per person have been less dramatic. GDP per capita was approximately $93–100 in 1960 and remains under $1,000 today depending on the exchange rate and methodology used. Nigeria's fertility rate has also declined modestly, from about 6.4 children per woman in 1960 to around 4.5–5 children today. Maternal mortality remains a challenge but has improved significantly from estimates exceeding 1,500 deaths per 100,000 births in the early independence period to roughly 800 today. Access to doctors, hospitals, medicines, and public health services has expanded considerably, though shortages remain. In summary, Nigeria in 1960 was a nation with low literacy, very high infant mortality, limited healthcare, little electricity, few universities, and a life expectancy of only 37 years. Nigeria in 2026 is a far larger, more educated, more urbanized, and healthier society. While poverty, infrastructure deficits, and governance challenges remain significant, the basic indicators of human development show that the average Nigerian today is more likely to survive childhood, receive an education, access modern technology, and live much longer than at independence. - AI |

Kushites:What's this deluded mofo banging on about this time!? Dude, you need to get your block head out of the clouds and get back down to earth and reality! Nigeria is a absolute disgrace, a embarassment, and a disappointment to sub-sahara Africa given the way it's managed its affairs since the colonial gov't left in 1960! What you claim to be 'independence' was nothing but the Brits handing over the baton of oppression, subjugation and illegal appropriation of national wealth to the greedy, tribalistic, ill-bred, ill-read and unprepared Nigerian elite of the time (political, chieftaincy and subsequently military) who moved into the palatial mansions just vacated by the Brits in the leafy and serene GRAs of Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Enugu, and Kaduna! The Nigerian elite mainly continued from where their former colonial masters left off! Of course there were exceptions to the norm as a few bright sparks existed amongst this elite, but their good efforts were eventually undone by the internal structural contradictions and faulty foundation the post 'independent' Nigeria was built on! We also had well-intentioned and capable elite who started off well, but were eventually corrupted by the post 'independent' political, economic and ethno-religious dynamics of the time which turned them away from the positive values that initaially moulded their world-view and career in politics and gov't! For you to infer that, but for a 'independent' Nigeria, its component parts couldn't have gone it alone and become successful and progressive societies in their own right says a lot about what drives you as a person! Any honest assessment of how Nigeria has performed since 'independence' will come up with the conclusion that that country has perfomed woefully and actually retrogressed given the monumental resources (human and material) it had at its disposal, as well as given how well we have done in comparison with similar or less endowed countries of the time like Malaysia, Singapore, Brazil, South-Korea, Japan, Saudi-Arabia, etc! |

pongwa:The military never precipitated the insurgency. Islamic Jihadists in the north did with the aid of their Arab counterparts. APC through Buhari specifically speeded things up for them by arming the Fulani to start ethnic cleansing. That's why I was aghast in 2014 seeing even Christians, especially Christians in the MB and SW chanting sai Baba. The fact is that the blacks lack strategic foresight. May not be every black man anyway, but most African tribes do. How could you be a Christian and still cast your vote for a known Jihadist who would turn around to eliminate you? Today, same Christians are crying to the United States for help on a matter that they could have prevented in 2015/ |

udede:You guys always miss the point...No one can turn anything around in this country as it is presently constituted. Even if Peter is presently the best candidate at this time, have you considered the fact that the system is naturally rigged against him or any other sincere politician? Are you aware that just less than 15 years ago, Ribadu, the current NSA declared Tinubu corrupt and hoped he'll end up in jail? The same Ribadu is now Tinubu's right-hand man in security matters. Are you aware that Nigeria is one of the many African countries that has NEVER had charismatic and erudite people as presidents and governors because the system is rigged against such people who have what it takes to pull the country out of entropy? For instance, before independence, the best candidate for premier in the north was Aminu Kano. Ask yourself why he lost to Ahmadu Bello, the same way Peter Obi 'lost' to Tinubu? The British simply rigged him out because their vision for Nigeria and Africa is that the continent must NEVER make progress. Why? You can't have two captains in a ship. If Africa makes progress, the industrialized world like Europe and America and Asia will be in trouble. Where would they get the cheap raw materials running their economy? Who would they take raw materials from and sell finiished products to? That's why even Peter Obi's "from consumption to production" mantra is enough of a disaster that many Europeans and Americans won't ever support. Let me tell you who you are as an African: you're dispensable and disposable but tolerated by the world because your use is economic. The same way your ancestors served in whiteman's plantation as slaves is the same way you're serving the whiteman's interest as countries they created. In reality, what you call political leaders in Africa are slave task masters - Africans are the slaves, the politicians are the task masters while the whiteman are still the owners of the estates called countries. That's why they're telling you in Nigeria that you're not paying enough tax even though they provide you nothing. A slave must produce for the task master. Britain, and now France must get more benefit. That's the essence of all those state visits. Have you wondered why they say No Congo, No Phone? Yet some of the poorest people in the world are in Congo? Have you wondered why Africa is the most endowed continent, yet the poorest people in the world are in Africa? Have you asked yourself why and how the whiteman has been able to deceive you to the point that they steal all your natural resources - silver, gold, copper, timber, oil, diamond and more in exchange for paper? Let me tell you what the World Bank and IMF will never want you to know - Africans don't think! They simply like being teleguided. Otherwise, the first questions you guys should be asking is why you another race should create countries for you and you're comfortable in it. You should ask yourself why Africans cannot do the same for say Europeans and Americans. Someone was even arguing about progress. The only time Africans made progress was before the whiteman came. Africa would have made more progress if they were left as homogenous nations the way you have it in Europe and Asia. The summary is that African countries are not functional because the intent of creation is actually to make them non-functional and so end up serving the interest of outsiders instead of insiders. |
