next2me:Before you fool and insult yourself. In the hospital Doctors diagnose and lead treatment plan but Pharmacist knows more about the drugs for treatment and their components. They can correct prescription and guide the doctor on best drug to treat. |

They also kill a lot too, turning themselves to doc over night prescribing medication for those that cannot afford hospital bills |

starpower:That is the right and the best thing to do. It could be that the doctor is an intern or it was an oversight. But in some instances which I have witnessed , the pharmacist was wrong. At the end, the best for the patient is what we desire |

The pharmacists are actually the best in drugs prescription. A doctor comes in when their is need for diagnosis |

Health care delivery goes beyond drug prescription and dispensing. Not all health conditions requires drugs or outpatient management. The core domain of a pharmacist is drug formulation. How do you identify a surgical case?..How do you identify a case that is purely multidisciplinary. Pharmacists think drugs! Medical Lab Scientists think Tests Nurses think symptom&sign care and overall patient Nursing care Physiotherapists think physical maneuvres interventions Medical Doctors think about the patient overallmanagement. He determines who needs the service of other professionals and not That is why he is the defacto leader of the team.He assigns others responsibilities and coordinate it but DOESNT TEACH THEM HOW TO DO IT. |

| Re: Pharmacists Are Quietly Preventing Medical Disasters Every Single Day by Basic123: 8:08pm On Jun 04 |
Okwyjesus:They cant correct prescription bro. The final verdict still lies on the doctor judgement. Even an hospital assistant can make observation, the final say still lies on tbe doctor judgement. You cant appropriately prescribed without knowing the patient in totality, only doctors know that. |

Okwyjesus:Even a Nurse can do what you just said. Whatever role they are playing is advisory,a doctor may find it reasonable and adopt or discard it.The doctor still has the final say |

Osanoghodua1:As how? ![]() Its actually the other way round Pharmacists core function is drug formulation, dispensing is secondary |

Nice thread |

Chibuezem:Exactly. It is low self esteem that will make you leave your job and start pretending to do another person's work. If you study medicine work as a medical doctor. If you study nursing work as a nurse. If you study physiotherapy stop pretending to be a doctor in front of patient. Proudly be a physiotherapist and not a doctor wannabe! Wear your profession with pride and stop trying to be what you cannot be by virtue of qualification. Because if there is gbese tomorrow you can go to jail for it. |

Dpharmacist:I know pharmacists do a lot but i have an advice for you guys: always run your advice by the doctor before changing his prescriptions. If a you don't understand a particular regimen, ask the doctor. Yes, you are good with pharmacology and drug-drug interactions but some regimens are there cos the doctor knows more about the pathology of the disease more than you. For example, a doc prescribes normal saline for a hypertensive who has stroked. Don't go and do busy body and cancel the prescriptions. Learn from the doctor. Thank you |

starpower:Pharmacists also do mistakes too. You make it seem as if the mistakes is the domain of the doctor alone |

Efuaye:This one jus dey cap. Lemme help you out. If your doctor uses Google, thank him properly. I dont think you'll understand why,so let me leave you |

Hedonisco:Lol. Make una no worry, una go learn by force. We see a lot of your types in hospitals everyday with very complicated cases after they've spent huge chunk of their lives running from one pharmacy to another |
| Re: Pharmacists Are Quietly Preventing Medical Disasters Every Single Day by Love800(m): 6:06am On Jun 05 |
You said the doctor your brother went to prescribe drugs for him, then he went to a pharmacist and was told the drugs were overdose. So i want to ask. After the doctor prescribed those drugs for him, the doctor will send your brother to the hospital pharmacy to get the drug. So after going to the hospital pharmacy, why did he still go to another pharmacy outside! Are both not pharmacies! walexbiz: |

| Re: Pharmacists Are Quietly Preventing Medical Disasters Every Single Day by jaephoenix(m): 7:23am On Jun 05 |
Dpharmacist:Sorry for the terms used. But I hope you get my point. Because its annoying as a doctor, you prescribe some meds, you go home expecting for the patient to commence meds, only to return and they tell you that the meds have not been dispensed by the pharmacist, who didn't bother to check up on your thoughts |
| Re: Pharmacists Are Quietly Preventing Medical Disasters Every Single Day by Chibuezem(m): 8:36am On Jun 05 |
next2me:very dumb lol the only body licensed to regulate a doctor is MDCN |
| Re: Pharmacists Are Quietly Preventing Medical Disasters Every Single Day by next2me: 9:26am On Jun 05 |
Okwyjesus:Keep quiet there what do you know? A pharmacist cannot correct a prescription without consulting with the doctor for approval. How are you sure what you are correcting was a mistake? Stop hating and do your pharmacist job with pride, stop trying to be a doctor wannabe. If you want to be a doctor then go to medical school and stop trying to go through the back door. All this propaganda will still not make you a doctor. |
| Re: Pharmacists Are Quietly Preventing Medical Disasters Every Single Day by olakan22: 1:27pm On Jun 05 |
The headline is misleading, inciting and unnecessary. Op is claiming without proof that doctors are causing 'medical disasters' of great proportion because of their prescriptions. Not good. |

| Re: Pharmacists Are Quietly Preventing Medical Disasters Every Single Day by Dpharmacist(op): 4:44pm On Jun 05 |
jaephoenix:Yes there are usually reasons why a doctor might prescribed a particular medication even if it looks odd but still appropriate for the condition. Doctors are really trying and carry a heavy burden in diagnoses. Effective collaboration is what is actually missing in our hospital settings. All this will reduce if there is effective communication. Hope you know sometimes it's difficult to get to the doctor and there are cases where there was actually an error from the doctor, probably because the doctor was overstressed (we are not machines) . When the pharmacist detected it, all efforts to get to the doctor proved abortive. His phone is switched off and his whereabouts not know by the nurses, so it was documented in the folder that changes were made. |

Dpharmacist:In this scenario, there may be some expected alterations but it depends on the scenario. For example,if I prescribe normal saline for a hypertensive who had stroked and the pharmacist feels it may worsen the hypertension, the best thing is go with the ISQ meds and await the physician to return and explain. But if its a non emergency med,say PO PCM and its prescribed QDS,the pharmacist can dispense and later ask why QDS and not TDS Hope you get,Rx? |
