My steering wheel is very stiff. I have changed power steering oil yet no way, the oil keeps pouring away.
The mechanic said it was steering rack and it was repaired. Yet the oil is still leaking and steering is stiff.
Abeg what could be wrong.
Get another steering rack

Good afternoon sir.

Vehicle: Toyota Corolla 2010
Concern: Steering column noise before repair, now steering has become slightly hard after repair

Let’s address this properly before further damage occurs to the steering system.

* Professional Diagnostic Insight

From your explanation:

• Steering column was making noise initially
• Mechanic worked on it
• Noise may have reduced or stopped
• But now the steering feels harder than before

* That is a very important sign.

A steering system should NEVER become noticeably harder after steering repair if everything was properly aligned and calibrated.

* Important Observation

There are different possible reasons why the steering became hard after the repair:

• Steering column adjustment too tight
• Intermediate shaft binding
• Steering rack stress
• Improper coupling alignment
• EPS (Electric Power Steering) issue
• Or steering angle calibration issue

On Corolla models around this year, steering system adjustments must be handled carefully.

* Most Likely Causes

1, Steering Column Over-Tightening
Very common after steering column work.

If components were tightened excessively:
* Steering movement becomes stiff or resistant.

2, Improper Steering Shaft Alignment
If the intermediate shaft was not aligned properly:
• Steering may feel heavy
• Turning may not feel smooth

3, Electric Power Steering (EPS) Calibration Issue
Your Corolla uses electric-assisted steering.

If:
• Battery was disconnected
• Steering angle shifted
• EPS system disturbed

…the steering assist may not respond properly.

4, Mechanical Binding Inside the Column
Possible if:
• Bushings
• Bearings
• Column joints

were improperly installed.

* What Should Be Checked Now

Before anyone starts replacing random parts:

1, Inspect the steering column adjustment properly.

2, Check steering shaft movement manually for binding.

3, Perform EPS diagnostic scan and steering calibration if necessary.

4, Inspect front suspension and alignment condition.

5, Verify that no steering coupling or joint was forced during installation.

* Do NOT Do This

• Do NOT continue forcing hard steering for long
• Do NOT allow repeated dismantling without proper diagnosis
• Do NOT ignore steering stiffness — it is a safety system
• Do NOT assume “hard steering after repair is normal”

* Professional Insight

The fact that:
• The steering became hard only after repair

…strongly suggests:
• Something changed during the repair process.

Most times, this is usually:
• Adjustment-related
• Alignment-related
• Or EPS calibration-related

—not necessarily complete steering rack failure.

• Ryan Automotive Limited Recommendation

The correct next step is a structured steering system diagnosis, focusing on:

• Steering column inspection
• EPS system scan
• Steering angle calibration
• Shaft alignment verification
• Front suspension and steering load inspection

At Ryan Automotive Limited, we carry out professional steering diagnostics and fault tracing to accurately identify whether the issue is mechanical, electrical, or calibration-related before unnecessary replacement costs occur.

Steering issues should always be handled early because they directly affect driving safety and vehicle control.

Now my own steering rack is still normal. Yet the fluid leaks. If I fill the power steering fluid compartment, I can use it for almost 2 months before it goes low again. My steering is still as normal as it should be. I even drove it down to the east from lagos and back during the Xmas holiday. Unless I tell u, u wont know I have leaks. Is the solution changing the rack too? Can it be fixed?

I was told that rust affected the chassis and they'll need to fabricate a replacement. This is a 2008 acura mdx

Vehicle must had lived a very harsh tough life in snowy regions where salts were used to thaw the ice and the previous owner didn't bother washing the underbody. It's a huge risk driving in that state.

Where is the leak coming from? CV axle?
Can be fixed by replacing the seals though.

Hello my oga in the house I noticed my es330 air filter box is broken 1 side and the top does not fit well. I have always thought it doesn't matter untill I was told it matters a lot if it is broken or slightly open one side. Please does anyone have idea how much it is sold and where to get it probably with original MAF sensor.

Good day sir.

Vehicle: Lexus RX350 (Please specify the model year for more precise guidance)
Scan Code: P0776 (Pending, Current & History)
Concern: Transmission not shifting properly

Let’s address this properly before anybody recommends gearbox replacement unnecessarily.

* What P0776 Means

P0776 = Pressure Control Solenoid “B” Performance / Stuck OFF

In simple terms:

Your transmission computer has detected that the hydraulic pressure being controlled by Solenoid B is not responding as expected.

The transmission relies on hydraulic pressure to:

• Engage gears properly
• Control shift timing
• Prevent slipping
• Maintain smooth operation

When Solenoid B sticks or fails, the transmission may:

• Shift harshly
• Refuse to upshift properly
• Get stuck in one gear
• Enter fail-safe mode
• Slip between gears

The symptoms you described are consistent with this fault code.

* Important Observation

The fact that the code appears as:

• Pending
• Current
• History

is very significant.

This tells us the fault is:

• Not a one-time occurrence.

• Not a scanner glitch.

• The transmission computer is repeatedly detecting the same problem.

Therefore, simply clearing the code will not solve the issue.

• Most Likely Causes

1, Faulty Pressure Control Solenoid B

This is the most common cause.

The solenoid may:

• Be electrically faulty
• Be mechanically stuck
• Have internal wear

2, Valve Body Problem

Sometimes the solenoid itself is good, but:

• Debris
• Varnish buildup
• Worn valve body passages

prevent proper hydraulic pressure control.

This is extremely common on aging automatic transmissions.

3, Dirty or Degraded Transmission Fluid

Old fluid can cause:

• Solenoid sticking
• Hydraulic pressure instability
• Delayed shifting

Especially if the fluid has become:

• Dark
• Burnt-smelling
• Contaminated

4, Internal Transmission Wear

If the vehicle has been driven for a long period with pressure-related issues:

• Clutch packs
• Internal seals
• Hydraulic circuits

may begin to wear.

5, Wiring or Connector Issues

Less common, but still possible.

The transmission harness should be inspected for:

• Corrosion
• Damaged wires
• Loose connectors

* What Should Be Checked Now

Before replacing the gearbox:

1, Check transmission fluid condition.

Inspect for:

• Burnt smell
• Dark coloration
• Metal contamination

2, Perform live data diagnostics.

Monitor:

• Line pressure
• Solenoid command
• Solenoid feedback
• Gear ratio data

3, Test Solenoid B electrically.

Check:

• Resistance values
• Power supply
• Ground circuit integrity

4, Inspect the valve body.

This is often where the real issue is found.

* Do NOT Do This

• Do NOT rush into gearbox replacement
• Do NOT continue aggressive driving
• Do NOT keep clearing the code repeatedly
• Do NOT assume a transmission service alone will solve it

* Professional Insight

The good news is:

P0776 does not automatically mean the gearbox is bad.

Many Lexus RX350 transmissions with this code are successfully repaired through:

• Solenoid replacement
• Valve body repair
• Hydraulic pressure correction

without replacing the complete transmission.

The key is proper diagnosis before spending money.

* Ryan Automotive Limited Recommendation

The next step should be a structured transmission diagnostic procedure, including:

• Professional transmission scan
• Live data analysis
• Solenoid circuit testing
• Valve body assessment
• Transmission fluid condition evaluation

At Ryan Automotive Limited, we do not recommend gearbox replacement based solely on a fault code. We first determine whether the issue is electrical, hydraulic, valve body related, or internal transmission wear.

In many cases, identifying the root cause early can save the owner a significant amount of money and prevent unnecessary transmission replacement.

If you can provide the exact model year of the RX350 and whether the vehicle is experiencing slipping, delayed engagement, or harsh shifting, a more targeted assessment can be given.

My Camry 2007 steering was making humming sound while idle or driving, so my mechanic suggested I get a new steering pump, which I got for 75k. This was over a month ago.

I noticed immediately that the steering was still stiff, but due to money restraints, I’m only now able to fix the steering rack.

The steering rack doesn’t leak oil, so my question is whether I should try repairing the rack or just replace with a brand new one?

He said the price for a new steering rack currently is around 150k.
