UPDATE ON FALSE REPORT OF ALLEGED KIDNAPPING OF STUDENTS AT ADUWAWA AND IKPOBA HILL, BENIN CITY

Further to the earlier press release issued by the Edo State Police Command regarding the false and misleading report of an alleged kidnapping of students at Green Park Academy Aduwawa and Western Boys’ College Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, the Command wishes to inform the general public that one Uzebor Emmanuel ‘f’, popularly known on social media as “Aza Woman,” has been arrested in connection with the viral publications.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect knowingly disseminated false claims in various social media posts alleging that about 6 persons had been kidnapped through various Mini transport Buses. According to her some purportedly escaped from their abductors, while others paid ransome.

These publications generated widespread apprehension, heightened public anxiety, and could undermine public confidence in the security architecture of the State.

The Edo State Police Command reiterates that the deliberate spread of false information, particularly on matters relating to public safety and security, is a serious offence with far-reaching consequences.

Such actions are capable of inciting panic, disrupting public order, and diverting security resources from genuine emergencies. The security of a state should never be jeopardized for views, engagement, online relevance, or any other form of social media gratification.

The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Command therefore advises members of the public to exercise restraint, verify information from credible sources before sharing, and refrain from using social media platforms to disseminate falsehoods capable of disturbing public peace and order.

Dear Nigerians...

I think these precision arrests tells us one thing. The government knows how to end insecurity in this country. They have the technology, they have the intelligence to track and eradicate the people sponsoring the terrorism ravaging our country - but they don't HAVE THE WILL to do anything - afterall, e norva touch them.

I do not support spreading fake news that can disrupt public peace, BUT I ALSO DON'T SUPPORT THE KID'S GLOVE approach to fishing out and punishing the people actually kidnapping and killing Nigerians - as they say, what is good for the goose is good for uganda.

Yes it is. Even in the US, its a serious offence.

Some people will soon come and defend her now oo.

Stand face to face with her and ask her WHY she did it and you will hear the useless speech spewing from her mouth. CRUISE.

This will be injustice if Lagos Police does not invite Nasiru and the Paul of Psquare for the same offence.

Spreading false news could trigger panic reaction. Remember how people bath with and drank salt water during COVID scare.

Some people often involve in unnecessary and insensible stunts to gain unnecessary attention.

What does some people stand to gain in concocting and spreading fake news to create and instill fear and panic in people's heart.

To those that dont know, there are laws in Nigeria against it under the cybercrimes act. Ignorance is not an excuse in law ooo. Consult your lawyer.

this is a case of low hanging fruits, you should know that some people are easier to catch when they committed an offense than others.

To arrest someone using social media with many followers is easier you and I know this .

You are comparing finding a known entity to finding a John doe who is probably alien. I am not making excuses for those idiots but let's also be realistic.

As much as I detest Tinubu's ineptitude and cluelessness in combating the kidnapping scourge, any citizen who spreads fake information about kidnapping is worse than Tinubu. The person creates unnecessary chaos and panic in the community and we don't need that right now. This lady should be punished decisively.
