Actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has released what he terms documentary evidence to double down on his corruption allegations against the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and other Southeast party leaders.

Okonkwo insists that aspirants were pressured into making illicit payments to secure tickets during the party’s primary elections.

The disclosure follows a pre-litigation warning from Obi’s legal team threatening a five-billion-naira defamation lawsuit over claims Okonkwo originally made on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily.” In the interview, he claimed that House of Representatives aspirants were coerced into paying a 10 million Naira bribe under Obi’s watch.

Responding through a series of tweets on Wednesday morning, Okonkwo dismissed the legal threats and revealed private conversations with Obunike Ohaegbu, an NDC House of Representatives aspirant for the Nnewi North/South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.

Although Ohaegbu reportedly downplayed his accusation of the party in subsequent media appearances, Okonkwo insisted that the aspirant had privately labelled Obi as the chief coordinator of the extortion scheme.

Work hard, build a name for yourself, and make an impact by helping others. You don't just show up with a popular TV face and expect to be handed a political role, especially in a major mainstream party.

I can remember how he was passionately defending Obi in the wake of 2023 election, only for him to make a U-turn a year after. His U-turn is sharp, extreme, and disrespectful. If Atiku, whom he currently surrogates for, is wise, he would not trust him. I know politics is mostly about personal interest, but the players should at least show some class and decorum.

Being a lawyer is a different thing from being an experienced lawyer.

There’s a difference between a lawyer of 5 years and a SAN, who has been a lawyer for over 30 - 40 years.

Butterfly dey call itself bird. The likes of Kenneth Okonkwo and Deji Adeyanju rate themselves like Femi Falana. It took powerfully connected Nigerians to beg Chief Afe Babalola to let Farotimi go. If not, Farotimi would be in jail today.

The foolishness of Kenneth Okonkwo did not let him see that there was no link connecting Peter Obi and that claim. Agreeing but not conceding that such payments were made, does it not show that even Mr. Peter Obi himself would happily have paid it, being a candidate himself.

All the parties have fees and charges which members happily pay, whether they win or not.

The pain of Kenneth Okonkwo is the failure of Abubakar Atiku, his principal, to trap Mr. Peter Obi inside ADC and relegating him to the deputy role. Atiku himself finally plays the last card, knowing that he will not win. Atiku wanted to keep Obi in a cage and use his popularity to wrongly project himself and try to secure the Presidency. Since Obi went to a party with no issues, those who used issues to destroy other parties started following him. The likes of Abure, Okonkwo, Dele Momodu, Arabambi, Datti Ahmed, etc, have not found peace since Obi moved on.

Now Obi has taken the irresponsible Okonkwo to court. I wonder how he calls himself an educated man. Aside from the civil lawsuit, Obi reserves the right to file a complaint for criminal defamation. Finally Okonkwo has found himself in trouble. His arrogance, just like Adeyanju, has put him into deep trouble.
