GTBank Held Customer’s ₦134,400 After Failed Transfer For 17 Months by Estello(op): 5:05am On Jun 11
Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has still not reversed the failed N134,400 transfer Oluwadamilola, a Lagos-based customer, made to a Sterling Bank account in 2024.

FIJ had earlier reported how the GTBank customer transferred the sum to the beneficiary’s account in November 2024, but the transaction failed. And since then, she has not received a reversal.

Oluwadamilola, who spoke with FIJ again last Friday, said, “My N134,400 is still with GTB. They have refused to reverse the sum to my account.”

We have been on this dispute now for 17 months, and the bank has continued to act like it’s nothing; not a single response to my emails from it,” she added.

“The last time I visited a bank branch close to my residence on the same matter, the official who attended to me also could not give me a definite answer on when it would be resolved.

“The bank’s handling of the dispute has been quite shocking to me.”

BACKGROUND
FIJ published a story on December 17, 2024, detailing how Oluwadamilola transferred N134,400 to a Sterling Bank account, but the beneficiary did not receive it.

After Oluwadamilola waited for many days and the sum had neither been reversed nor pushed to the recipient, she sent emails to both GTBank and Sterling Bank, seeking to know the status of the transaction.

In the end, only Sterling Bank responded, stating that the money was not in its possession. The bank advised Oluwadamilola to liaise with GTBank for a resolution.

When she liaised with GTBank and shared the transaction ID, she did not receive any helpful response from the financial institution.

I’ve been on Nairaland for nearly 5 years and this is my first FTC!! I dedicate this to the children and teachers trapped in the bushes with their oppressors. May they return home safely.

Btw, Using OPay would have saved the woman all these stress.

I love this.

Sometimes,these banks should be dragged.
We all have countless experiences with them.

You're very patient, I'm not sure I can wait that long,17months,Abah!

I would have shown them shege, even access bank that tried something similar with my 3k,I no give them rest till they assured me that the recipient had received it.

Na so so mail I dey send.

Banks can do better,at least it's an automated system, hence they should know if a transaction wasn't successful, it shouldn't be until a customer reaches out, that's posing a different meaning THEFT

Most of the bad things that happens in this country are all fueled due to a failed judicial system. Most people or individuals or government agencies and companies would act right knowing the legal consequences of their actions. I believe if this incident happened in a functioning system the bank in question will have to pay heavily for such delays

Chat me up

Let me give you legal services

You just won yourself 10millions damages charge in the future, though the judge will be considerate and reduce your judgement cost to 3,345,531.2

Don't bother yourself, involved the consult of a legal chamber agreed to do it 70-30 or 60-40
Meaning the chamber will get the highest of the judgement sum when ask for damages and see them get into action by first writing a demand letter to the bank.

No b all info I will give you here

They failed

Polaris bank
GTB bank
SKYE bank

Even Wema bank is so tribal focused, its like oshogbo Market.

Due to nepotism, selfishness, tribalism and total incompetence.

They claim sophistication but are truly noisemakers and always destroy thriving companies when they are incharge.

Na dem

They should be made to pay interest of 30% on the amount for the period the money was on hold.

I am sure the money was sitting in one bucket GL and to think they are doing monthly Reconciliation and Proofs of those Transit GLs.

I say CBN should sanction them but then they will stylishly pass it on to the staff (they staff deserve some sanctioning though! 17 months!)

Report to the regulatory body. It will be resolved and the bank may be sanctioned.

GTB BANK is the worst bank to use on the planet earth

Very useless customer care with iresponsible management. Always stealing people's money. Had several similar experiences with the useless thievery bank and I had to shut down that account.

Cbn, effc, icpc should save Nigerians from this wicked bank stealing customers money.

Secure the report from the CBN and attach it to the FREP and GTB cooked! They will be acting foolishly not to settle with you out of court. However, thereafter flee with your funds as they might target your account with all types of charges to get the money back from you overtime !

Nigeria Bank is a fraud..
They should keep doing what they knows best.
Lack of integrity is in the blood of Nigerian banks.
Like Gtb like First bank, like Access bank and others

CBN should be involved in this and a penalty should be paid for using the money for transactions!
