But Dangote made money from cement starting from President Obasanjo's era. He was the pioneer but today he is not the only one in cement though he is the leader. He has no cement company in Lagos and he sells more cement in the North than in the south

What he has in Lagos is the refinery and it was not the refinery that made him the richest person in Africa.

It is more accurate to say Nigeria made Dangote particularly the Obasanjo regime that mandated him to produce cement in the country and be selling it at any price
Dangote started from Sugar, not cement. Dangote was the sole importer of sugar throughout the 80s, he later ventured into foods (pasta, rice, even fruit juice). It was later during OBJ's regime that he ventured into cement. He had been trying to acquire a refinery since the days of OBJ. He bought PortHarcourt refinery during the last days of OBJ, but the sale was reversed by Yaradua Immediately he resumed office.

Now I know this Sanusi likes pettiness and unnecessary attention. What of shetima who said by virtue of the fact he cut his banking teeth in lagos he can be called a Lagos boy. The VP was just alluding to the fact that lagos is the melting point for all, nothing malicious.

So much pettiness from the so-called Emir. I would have appreciated it if he was more vocal in the criticism of the bandits.

The silence of these Fulani Emirs in the face of the recent attacks by bandits is striking.
Emir is setting the facts streight, it is rather the vp being patronizing.

Neither Kano or Lagos should be credited for dangotes wealth, except the person is being mischievous.

Dangote was sole beneficiary of Cement waivers and made bastard money from

Obajana Cement Plant Kogi State
Ibese Cement Plant Ogun State
Gboko Cement Plant Benue State
Okpella Cement Plant Edo State
Itori Cement Plant Ogun State

Lagos and Kano where just logistics offices
You didn't say before the so called waiver, how he was trading cement with the loan capital of 500,000 far back in 60s from his grandfather. the VP was just mischievous. Kano mould dangote period. tell your billionaires from your place to invest in electricity, steel and not when dangote enter the market with massive input then we start hearing government made him to generate electricity. the richest igbo man, Arthur eze is busy building hotel at enugu airport.

Tesla and thousands of companies arround the world got waivers too or else they wont survive in a new or capital intensive industry sector. Its not a strange practice in economicand business development.

Well said. Im not disputing with you. What Shettima said made it look like Dangote made his money from Lagos.

All the while Dangote benefitted from mind boggling waivers
From border waivers, export waivers, custom examination waivers the list goings on.

Where is Ibeto Cement, Burham Cement, larfarge cement, Benue Cement.

Dangote was and is a product of northern monopoly.

So you think Dangote is rich based on these low margin Cement factories?

So The Dangote Sugar refinery in Apapa, lagos.
The Dangote petro chemicals and fertilizer refinery in lekki both of which has given him more money and opportunities do not count?
Where is Dantata ? Dangote's Uncle that was purported to have given him a loan of N500,000 in the 70's to start Cement importation business.

Success has many families, failure has none. If Kano is that prolific as Sanusi want us to believe, he should list more billionaires who are Kano based and not politicians apart from Dangote and Isiyaku Rabiu.

May be then we can believe him.

Bua sugar refinery are all located in lagos.

Dangote was down and almost out of business during Yar'adua administration. Check majority of his associates and workers. There are not many northerners. He would have long gone out of relevant if not the quality of the associates he has from other regions. Remember Obasanjo sold Kaduna refinery to him and otedola, Yar'adua revoked the acquisition and Kaduna refinery has been the same sorry State since then.

Despite the success we see from outside, it has been an uphill battle for him to rise. We were all witnesses to what a fellow northerner, farouk of NUPRC did to him and his refinery. You can all fill the gap yourself.

Which Kano? If so why is he in Lagos?
Why did sanusi run to Lagos when he was having issues with the throne.

Kano is not the commercial city it once was, religious bigotry destroyed it.

The revenue of his companies are not secret. Dangote became the richest because of cement. I don't think there is any question about that. The refinery in Lagos is new and it can only succeed with the current ownership structure if oil import is banned like cement was banned.
