1. A big part of the problem here is that we do not make cars here..or rather our car manufacturers do not have a network of mechanics nationwide that would be trained to repair your car the manufacturer's way...unlike in the US or Europe

2. Most of the cars on the road are second hand cars, some don't even have spare parts easily available. Some aren't even made anymore.So, instead we dey use china made parts or parts that are not compatible...plus these cars should have been junked ages ago, instead we keep on using them.

3. Even routine maintenance...take engine oil for example. Every car has the specific engine oil that needs to be used in it, but for Naija.//syho we just use anything available

And all our problems can be traced back to...we do not have a vibrant car manufacturing industry here.

My first mistake was driving my own vehicle to Ladipo by myself. I learned that lesson the hard way.
The place can be ruthless. Everyone is looking for a way to squeeze money out of you. It's unbelievable.
My advice: find a trusted mechanic and let him handle your Ladipo errands. The money you think you're saving by going there yourself may end up costing you three times more. 😄

You don talk am finish. Almost everybody na criminal. If my things spoil now, I prefer to buy new one than repair the old one. Once them open am repair, more issues go enter.

If I drive my car go mechanic workshop, you come call me for phone dey tell me say 'Oga the car no dey start again, we go buy this, buy that', that mechanic go too suffer for my hand.

He go dey police cell till he use him money buy all those things and make sure say that car start. He go still pay the money wey I give police for that case.

If you no sabi mechanic, go learn carpentry. You no go use my car do experiment.

Get a good mechanic

It's not funny but it made me laugh 😀😁😁 I'm laughing cos I can relate. Fix one thing, two days alter another problem starts. I fix ball joint, next 2 days I start to dey hear another sound...I went back, this time na linkage. I fix that one, next thing na hose of airflow meter. ...after that one coil for AC start to dey smell. 😅😅😂😂😂 And on and on. I don park the car now, and only drive it in times of emergency movement. I have vowed never to buy naija used car again. From the look of her.car, it looks like she bought it naija used.

Whenever my car gives me issues, I research about it on YouTube and tell the mechanic exactly what to check.

If he tries to deviate, tell him to do as you have said or leave it. Mechanics yapa.

Any mechanic that tell you, forget YouTube or Google, is a clown and wants to scam you without regulation. Those types of mechanics no dey ever get better diagnostic tools or working equipments.

They depend on trial-and-error and it will be at your own cost, when they cause further damages to the car.. Na you go buy any parts wey dem go spoil.

If you want to get anything in ladipo market just get one person that trade there....anything concerning your car just relate with him...he will know where to get original one or a good mechanic for you...once your inside market trading they can't cheat you because they are in unions..

Why would you need someone that trade there before you can purchase in peace. Sorry to say this but fact is Ladipo is a den of scammers, out of 10 traders there 7 are looking for a way to rip you off. And all of Una get similar character for there, very horrible place to visit.

In as much as I won’t trust any random mechanic to work on my car. But ladies are known for running down cars before going for maintenance. The car probably wasn’t in the best shape before she took it to the mechanic. Also Nigerian used cars have multiple problems, you get to chose what’s your priority. If you allow mechanics they will convince you to fix everything which invariably would cost you tons of money.

Why u go repair car for lagos or Abuja.... If your car still dey move... Just manage drive am go ogun state if u dey lagos or drive it down to minna if you're in Abuja.... If not Abuja and lagos mechanics go over scam you.... Ino wetin I see for Abuja.... Ilorin mechanics are the best... They'll even give you options on what to buy if you don't have money

Her mechanic would have ripped her off to the point where she decided to go to Ladipo personally to fix the car.

She definitely did not know the problem with the car and trusted the guys in Ladipo to fix it. They exploited her ignorance. There are too many hawks in Ladipo, in the name of mechanics.

Many years ago, I went to Ladipo to change my car’s engine and gearbox. The mechanic that I met there took me to the engine/gear dealer. We struck a bargain after purchase. I gave the mechanic his commission and the engine seller also gave him. We took the engine and gear away. On the spot I decided to sell off the old engine/gearbox. I got a good bargain, sold them and also gave the mechanic some money out of it. Finally the mechanic remove the old engine/gearbox and changed to the newly purchase ones. I gave him money to purchase the servicing parts and went away. It was a Saturday evening.

The next Monday, I asked someone to help me monitor what the mechanic was doing. When I got there in the afternoon, the mechanic had moved the car to another workshop for setting of the new gearbox. My person who I asked to help me monitor the mechanic pulled me aside and told me what made me angry. He said that the mechanics in the workshop who were setting the gearbox, noticed that the oil filter was a fake one and wondered why the owner of the car would spend such huge amount of money purchasing a new engine/gear and end up buying a fake oil filter. They said that they particular fake oil filter would destroy the engine is less than four days. I was very angry and challenged the greedy mechanic who changed the engine, collected commissions, money for servicing parts and share of the sale of the old engine. It was a Mercedes’.

You will always get original and genuine parts in Ladipo at good prices, but the challenge can sometimes be the greedy mechanics. There are countless greedy and dubious mechanics there.
