It's hard to compress a lifetime into a few hours. And this is what the movie hoped to achieve: capture the whole life journey of the legend into a few hours. Hence it was fast paced. A few missing pieces that leaves you desiring to know more about Michael Jackson. You do will not see his development properly. The character development was mostly empty. One aspect I would have loved to see is his relationship. As a star Micheal probably have more female admirers than anyone else. How did he deal with those fans? We saw very little except for a girl, who was not actually his girlfriend. Also you'll almost learn nothing new from the movie about Michael Jackson. Which begs the question, why create a biopic at all? But something that really stood out to me most is the portrayal of Micheal Jackson's father. He played a very central role in the movie and no doubt in Micheal Jackson's life and career. And so I really do not understand why they tried to paint him as this cold and almost devilish figure. At some point, his father figure role was almost designed to make you hate him and only love the mother. But I don't think he is the villain of this story but instead a hero. He was a mere factory worker and wanted his children to end up better than him. "if you do not work hard, there's every guarantee that you'll end up right here in this small town as a factory worker. Now would you want that?" He pushed the kids to be good at something. Not many fathers can see their kids and see the future ahead. More so, actually push them to fly when the odds are stacked against them. How a steel factory worker trained 5 boys to become the greatest music bands ever showed someone who deeply cared about his children more than a strict and wicked father. Of course he could have pampered them like the mother and let them go to school, then join one of the boys in the hood and become nothing. And it's so sad that towards the end of the movie, they try to portray him as the villain when everyone suddenly turned on him simply because they are now rich. I mean, he built everything from the ground up. Mr Jackson not only gave the world micheal Jackson, he did the job of moulding him, shaping him up and developing his talent. And worst still, every night when other fathers are too tired from work, he gathers the boys to practice. That's not hate. That's tough love. Another thing I love is the young man who played micheal Jackson. While you can clearly see the mimics in his moves, I think he did very well. Overall, I think it's a good movie, worth watching but you'll learn nothing new from it. And that's another angle, it tells you nothing new about the legend. As a biopic we expect to see the legend in a different light, see aspects of his journey probably gathered from family members and close associates. But the movie is more or less based on publicly available info. It's like watching what you already know. There's absolutely nothing to learn new from the movie if you already read a few articles about the singer before. Much time was spent rather on the making of his music videos such as thriller, beat it and wanna be Startin something. In this regard, the movie actually lack substance. There are so many direction this could have gone. I wonder why the dynamic between his father becomes the central role of the movie. I'm not buying it that his father is bad or terrible. Any human will be happy to have such a father who not only see them as other kids but as stars. But not only see them as stars. That's the easier part and every father and mother think their kids are special. But how many actually take the extra step to put that belief into work? How many fathers today will buy music instruments from their "factory" labor salary, come back from work and make their kids practice even when tired and exhausted? How many will take their kids around town to book them for gigs, stay up while they play and look for ways to improve them? Yes, he did beat them. But beating is not killing them. Little discipline goes a long way. And I think this is a central role to almost any great person in history. Serena Williams father was also strict with his children in their biopic. And like Micheal Jackson's father, he took his girls to practice regularly even when they don't want to. He book their games as well finding as many opportunities for them as he could so they can shine. Sorry Hollywood, but I'm not buying the idea that Jackson was a terrible father to his kids.

Been trying to download this... But I haven't had the time. Modified Bia OP, was the movie about Michael Jackson or his father? You spent the whole month writing about the father, when the movie was meant to be centred around the son - Michael. I should go read reviews on Rotten Tomatoes or at YTS forum. |

Do you expect a man’s life spanning over 5 decades to be summarized in just a 2hrs movie? The movie covers just his early beginnings and focuses on major career milestones. I quite agree that their father is the major reason why the Jackson siblings are what they are today. It’s no mean feat to have all your children successful (for a black man) in the USA through the 70s. |

Folks have got to stop trying so hard to white-wash Michael Jackson's real legacy. His music isn't even that good. Michael Jackson was a kiddie fiddler nothing more, nothing less. The End. |

I haven't watched it .. not interested. I've seen too much of Michael Jackson videos.. interviews etc and just can't be sitting to watch someone pretending to be him. Same with Muhammad Ali movie The Greatest. But Malcolm X? (Denzel Washington)... and Ray (Ray Charles)? .... (Jamie Fox) .....fascinating! |

What i noticed about his father is different though, yes he was a hardworking, ambitious, doting father, but he's the central figure in Michael's demise, most of the insecurities Micheal has stems from him, first he made him alter his nose/appearance so many times by bullying the way he looks (big nose as he calls him often) this is why Micheal is obsessed with having a pointed nose, he never lets him be a child or have a childhood, hence his obsession with children and playtime this is why he built Neverland ranch and got so close to children leading to his child molestation accusations, he forces Michael to do things and made sure he doesn't make decisions on his own as an adult, which is why he lost his strong will and ability to say no to people, he did the Pepsi commercial that burnt his hair and made him a junkie because he couldn't say no to joseph his father, and without that burn he wouldn't be addicted to pain meds and he'd still be alive, he had no friends growing up so he surrounded himself with animals and toys, and this followed him to adulthood making him an extremely shy and misunderstood person who often craves connection, most of the things that went wrong in his life is because of his controlling and abusive father, the only thing wrong with the movie is the fact that they didn't exploit his love life, i grew up thinking he's attracted to men, this was because of several rumors, I didn't know he had kids and liked girls, alot of people thought so too, the movie should've cleared that, and the story of how he passed. |

The "Michael" musical biopic is still the number one biopic on earth surpassing "Bohemian Rapsody". The king of pop will always be the king of pop. We all love MJ to the core! ❤️❤️🩹❤️ |

The late king of Pop Michael Jackson, He influenced me firstly with his dance moves and one of his hit song Wanna Be starting Something with his outro" mama-say mama-sa mama-kosa eeh eeh .. even though I barely heard other lyrics because of the genre( pop) .. I learnt so much musically through this man ... may his Gentle soul rest in perfect peace .. my mentor ... And again to Abami-eda himself, The king of Afro , that made me embrace ours ... May his Gentle soul rest in perfect peace .. Afro+Pop = Me.. |

Op, well said... I'm of thesame option. There wasn't much new substance to the movie as one would have expected of a thriller.. then portraying Michael Jackson's father as a villain was out of place. Infact , on a closer review, one could say that his style of parenting helped formed the very Micheal Jackson the world had! |

Host78:Your opinion doesn't count at all. Focus on your own family. Una go dey online dey review wetin una no know. If they said he was a bad father, who are you to counter that? You can never know whether a man was a good father or not until you were raised under the parental control of such a man. |

| Re: Micheal: My Honest Review Of The Michael Jackson Biopic Movie by eaglechild: 1:31pm On Jun 14 |
Miggs:He was found innocent of all charges against him in a society that will arguably go to any extent to pull down a person of his sort. Your statement is baseless and disgusting. His music has broken all records the music industry has to offer. I am not sure when you were born or if you are just rage baiting with your comment |

Look at Hollywood movies from full films to series like Henry danger to different family shows... They always portray the fathers as either dumb or deadbeat dads and the mothers as the smart one. It's not a coincidence. Host78: |

Host78:The biggest irony was that it was MJ's father who pushed him to what he later became_a superstar but afterwards his dad was painted as villainous because of his strictness. Such is life. Another big irony was that out of all his children that he pushed into music, it was MJ that was destined to be the richest/ most successful musician. |

Fekumzi123:I definitely wouldn't enjoy it... that I know! It's like if there's a Mike Tyson movie ... I'm not going to watch it . Saw an interview with Janet Jackson .... she was pissed at her siblings for "selling out". She claimed they upturned everything Michael worked and sacrificed to make and protect. The Beatles catalog he owned and rumoured the cause of his "murder"... has been sold along with other "rights" he owned... for $60 million? Then the movie had not put certain things in perspective. It has made $800 million last time I heard. They are smiling all the way to the bank.... full control of Michael Jackson's brand. |
