Does God Permit Polygamy in the New Testament?

1) Direct Answer
No. In the New Testament God calls us back to His original order: one man and one woman. Polygamy is not permitted for believers.

Jesus calls us to go back to the original standard

Mat 19:4-5:
"And he answered and said to them, Have you not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall join to his wife: and they two shall be one flesh?"


However, it may not be a SIN if a man has more than one wife based on the reason that a moral SIN in the NEW Testament remains a SIN in the OLD Testament.

Thus, a man who married five wives before coming to Christ is not obliged to DIVORCE ANY of his wives after his salvation.

Luk 16:18:
"Whoever puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery: and whoever marries her that is put away from her husband commits adultery."
Whoever married the divorced wife commit adultery against the man.

In other words, it is the unbelievers that are permitted to walk out of a marriage not the believer.
