Sit-at-home: Markets, Banks Remain Largely Empty Despite Soludo’s Warnings by Nemere2020(op): 7:27pm On Jun 15
Major markets, banks and business premises in Onitsha, Anambra State, recorded low commercial activity on Monday despite repeated warnings by Governor Chukwuma Soludo against compliance with the sit-at-home order.

A visit to key markets, including Onitsha Main Market, Ochanja Market, Marine Modern Market, Ose-Ekwodu Market and Biafra Market, showed that only about 30 per cent of shops were open for business.

The state government had warned traders against observing the Monday sit-at-home and threatened to seal shops that remained closed, with fines imposed on defaulters.

However, investigations revealed that some shop owners who did not personally attend their businesses allegedly asked neighbouring traders to open their shops on their behalf to avoid sanctions from government enforcement teams.

Several commercial banks, filling stations and other business premises also remained closed throughout the day.

Meanwhile, the President of Building Materials International Market, Ogidi, Chief Jude Nwankwo, and his counterpart at Ogbaru Main Market, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, said traders in their respective markets had largely complied with the government’s directive.

Speaking separately, they claimed that about 98 per cent of traders in their markets now open for business on Mondays.

According to them, patronage remains low as many customers are reluctant to travel due to security concerns and the scarcity of commercial transportation.

They said traders who open their shops are provided security by members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group, code-named Operation Udo Ga-Achi and Agunechemba.

The market leaders also disclosed that their management teams had adopted measures to enforce compliance, including sealing shops that fail to open on Mondays and sanctioning affected traders when they return to the market.

They expressed optimism that continued enforcement and improved security would gradually restore normal business activities across the state on Mondays.

That’s a good one coming from Biafrans!

It’s becoming clear that Monday alone will not deliver the much needed attention and suggestions across the region has welcomed 3 day sit at home which should be Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Measure will cause a devastating effect on the South East and Nigerian economy, and will force the FG and state to come to the table.

Moreover, elections should be ignored. Biafrans should not be voting in a Nigerian election.

If Biafra must come, big sacrifices need to be made.

Actually wouldn't doubt this despite not being there. few days ago was on the solar thread and someone made mention that he can't buy something until Tuesday because no shops / markets opens on Monday and I had to ask if they were still doing the every monday holiday. Me sef was surprised as I thought the very stiff penalities by the gunMent would have changed things

It will not make sense if Soludo fails to demolish all the shops and banks. Since he thinks peace comes by forvlce, let's see how long the force will make him succeed

Ha, na wa o. See what accepting the religions of the peaceless countries ha e brought to us. We accepted Islam and Christianity to our country and it breeds terrorism and gullibility.

Anyway, Otem have come to declare to us the imprisonment of these two gods-Jehovah and Allah. Then we can discard religion in its entirety and embrace science 100%

The Igbos are not very good slaves who like to be told what to do by Feudo-fascists.

They are stubbornly and obstinately republican and believe in their own freedom of thought. You must understand this if you must successfully lead them.

Rulers don't survive in Igboland, only leaders do.
