I believe its still early days. I usually try to avoid this type of reasoning until the tournament is at around the knockout stage.

Doubt that. Wonderful performance from him but he didn't make any save okoye wouldn't do and he was behind a bus all day.

I believe most Nigerians will be more comfortable with that Cape Verdean goalkeeper than someone like Okoye, yet he plays in the Portuguese second division while Okoye plays in Serie A.

Another reason why the " where he plays matters " argument is so weak.

I think it is the spirit and determination sometimes not even club pedigree...Zambia national team lost all their players except Kalusha Bwalya prior to Afcon 94 and they made it to the final...Cape Verde got their left back through Linkedln.

The Egyptian team that drew with Belgium.
Around 70% of the players are not in Europe.
Europe is the best but not clearly or always the best 100% of the time.
Reality is messy and not straightforward as people think.
Tactics of the coach matters. i mean an European based player may simply not fit into the coach's tactics.
Also, opportunity is not always equal.
Even European perception of a player is not always accurate.
People on this site just classify everybody in Europe as better.
There are nuances they refuse to see.
It is well. time and reality will keep showing up these exceptions

Only 3 out of 10 European teams have managed to win their opening game at the 2026 World Cup so far:

❌ Czechia lost 2-1 to South Korea
🤝 Bosnia drew 1-1 with Canada
🤝 Switzerland drew 1-1 with Qatar
✅ Scotland beat Haiti 1-0
❌ Turkey lost 2-0 to Australia
✅ Germany crushed Curacao 7-1
🤝 Netherlands drew 2-2 with Japan
✅ Sweden beat Tunisia 5-1
🤝 Spain drew 0-0 with Cape Verde
🤝Belgium drew 1-1 with Egypt
Later gattuso and his likes will be saying Europe deserves more slot …mumu man

Meanwhile I just watched my first 10minutes match of Cape Verde 🇨🇻 vs Spain 🇪🇸 of this World Cup tournament,I neva get interest in dis tournament

They are only beating Iran if the match will be played in the US as Iran will be tired from jetlag due to not being allowed to stay in the US for more than a day. New Zealand? Good possibility but im not holding my breath.
BlackManta:
With the performance I saw today, they are definitely getting that first win against either Iran or New Zealand.

Na you de play.
Like this is the first WC or something? Quick example is Ghana at 2022 WC and a group stage exit by next afcon

Los Angeles county has the largest concentration of Iranians in the US (probably in all of diaspora). You would almost think the draw was influenced to have their first match there
Yeah.

In our case, had we qualified ahead of DRC, we would have played Portugal in Houston and Uzbek in ATL.

The amount of fans that would have turned up for Naija would have been record breaking. Not that thing in Russia where you just see one tiny set of fans beating drums and rest are white people.

Nigeria missing this World Cup is something that can’t be easily forgiven oh.

The only Sevilla player to have possession won midfield per 90 more than Chidera Ejuke is Isaac Romero.
Chidera Ejuke will help you win possession and maintain stability and dominance.
He is not that easy to dispossess.

Only the Sevilla goalkeeper has made recoveries of the ball per 90 more than Chidera Ejuke in the entire Sevilla team.

If you don't have it, you simply do not have it.

Tough mentality is not what in train into a player.

Did anybody put it inside Osimehen and Bassey?

This thing boils down to individuals,.. you should allow it to come to you naturally. It should possess and engulf you.

I saw a slight spark of it in Akors' play against Portugal, actually Akor has had abit of it since he came on against lesoto but it's been off and On, unlike Osimehen and Bassey who wears it like Constant k.... As in na follow come,...

It even shows in the way they walk, talk and do things outside football.

Sadly a quality missing in majority of our players.
It can be instilled. You'd see an ordinary guy. He'd go for army recruit. By the time they drill him, he'd come out with that rugged mentality.

But in relation to our players, I get your point and I agree with you. All the players need not have it like Osimhen but at least have some ruggedness.

I hate seeing fear in the eyes of our players.

Word on the street is that Eric Chelle is likely leaving before the AFCON Qualifiers. I've done my investigation and close sources are telling me that "you know who" are deeply unsatisfied with Eric Chelle's demands and have no intention to even negotiate, talk less of renewing his contract.

Of course take this with a grain of salt but right now I'm so livid.

Nff don’t have a choice Dan to renew his contract…they have failed in all ramifications and the only bargaining chips Dey have to calm the Nigerian loving football fans nerve is to extend his contract .They dare not add to their woes of not qualifying for the World Cup

If dem try rubbish with Eric chelle ,nobody in nff will survive the heat

They will survive and nothing will happened. Do you really think the nff care about Nigerians. Just wait and see. Eric will leave and nothing will happen. They are so proud and full of themselves always thinking we have players and any coach can do the work...
