June 30 Countdown: Anxiety Grows as Anti-Immigrant Campaigners Intensify Pressure on Foreign Nationals in South Africa

A wave of uncertainty is spreading among migrant communities in South Africa following renewed calls by anti-immigration activists urging foreign nationals to leave the country before the end of June.

The campaign, which has gained traction on social media and in some local demonstrations, has fueled fears of possible confrontations, despite there being no official government directive ordering foreigners to depart.

Supporters of the movement argue that undocumented migration has placed additional strain on public services, jobs, and business opportunities. Others insist that many foreign-owned enterprises contribute significantly to local economies by creating employment and supporting families.

The growing tension has once again exposed deep frustrations over unemployment, crime, and economic hardship in South Africa, issues that have increasingly become intertwined with debates surrounding immigration.

Community leaders and rights advocates have appealed for calm, warning that rhetoric targeting entire groups of people risks deepening divisions and undermining efforts toward African solidarity.

As June 30 approaches, thousands of migrants are left wondering whether the coming days will bring dialogue, stronger immigration enforcement, or another chapter in South Africa's long-running struggle with xenophobic tensions.

For many observers, the biggest question remains unanswered: Can South Africa address its economic challenges without turning its frustrations toward fellow Africans seeking opportunities within its borders?

Any Nigerian in south Africa who still values his life should better leave before that day cuz I know those Xenophobic scallywags may likely shift the date of the deadline back cuz their frustration will likely be facilitated by South Korea after beating them in the world cup angry

Some Nigerians would rather take their chances in South Africa than come back home and live in fear of kidnappers demanding ₦50 million ransom. The situation is tough on both sides, but many people are simply trying to survive and earn an honest living. I am a qualified electrician, and if anyone needs electrical installation, maintenance, or related services, I will appreciate the opportunity to work. God bless everyone trying to make a living legally.

Those migrants will just lose their lives just because they want to stay in South Africa . Leave their country for them if your life is in danger . Ones life is worth more than south Africa residency. Only a complete won't see that they south African government is silently supporting this movement.

I still don't know what will make me to go and be living in another AFRICAN country. I better die of hunger here than to go and be a second citizen in another African country.

Now out of all African countries, I will now decide that Xenophobic republic is where I want to go and pitch my tent? huh
I don't really get it.

This isn't about you, and most of those caught up out there did not move there this year or last year. It was not always like this.

Don't ever try that anywhere as a migrant. Your best bet is to stay indoors if you won't leave.

As wild as the southys can be, and as horrible as xenophobia is, me I can't even be mad at them. Las Las they have the bragging right as per say na their country. They didn't koba you and your country. They put ten toes down, stayed and fought, invested blood and tears for their country. They have the bragging right fccked up as they may be. Other Africans should take a cue and go fight for their countries too. Lobatan. Awon omo onile ni won fe yin mo, eyin naa e ma lo.
