This has been my contention with Tinubu all these years!!

He should have staggered the subsidy removal!!!

50% first
Then 30%, 20% after 6 months.

This allows a controlled response and markets can adjust slowly. But no! He had to do it at once. Prices doubled, then tripled, while they fed fat on state resources.

Can you explain what you mean by "organized manner"?
You said you'd still meet with the same stakeholders who have benefited from the subsidy racket for years before removing the subsidy? If that's the case, how exactly does that make the process organized or different?
Let me help him out.

The removal will start from two states each from every geo political area. In the two states, artisans will start buying expensive fuel because they make daily money and then civil servants and then the others.

Should I go on?

Which means Buhari was responsible for removing subsidy and not tinubu.

But where I fault tinubu is that he doesn't know how to cut cost of running government,we can't feel the benefits of subsidy removal.
I agree with your sentiments. Removing subsidy itself was a step in the right direction. The problem was the wasting of funds on irrelevant political spending that followed.

Just to put lamba king's suggestion in perspective.

He will call the same people who benefit from the present corrupt system and tell them.

"Guys, I want to remove food from your mouth, tell me the best way to do it?"

And the same stakeholders (NNPC, NUPENG, and co) will now smile back at him and tell him, 'yeah, you can go ahead'

If anyone was ever in doubt, it is now very clear, this man does not have what it takes to even be an estate chairman not to talk of president of Nigeria.

The same set of people who almost frustrated Dangotte refinery is the same set of people he would have gone to seek permission from to remove the subsidy in an organized way.

I thought he would have had the courage to condemn the exchange rate policy.
That part actually got me chuckling. The guy is clueless. He just says things to pls his usual audience.

Do a supplementary budget, if you have to. Give yourself time to study the books to know what you have or don't have, then take a STRUCTURED approach that won't kill the people you want to lead.

What is the point of rushing in like a fool and then making policies that ends up enriching politicians while impoverishing the masses?

Una own be say make we just dey borrow dey go. Who go pay after you've left office?
Obi truly knows his audience. You lot live in an alternate reality where reasoning is in 2D.

Where will obi get money to pay subsidy in the first few months when it wasn't included in the budget buhari made?

Make una join hand spoil the country finish. Nah all of us go suffer am. If a president is not doing well instead of us to join and vote him out. Tribal or religious sentiment go fall in

You are absolutely correct, the organized way Obi is proposing is why Jonathan's subsidy removal attempt failed. There is no organized way at removing that cancer. While, one agrees that the savings from the removal could have been better managed in terms of transparency and funds redirection.

So, I agree with you that the subsidy removal was needed and there was no better time and way to carry it out.
Even, the funds cant be redirected without constitutional amendment.Subsidy removal means more money in the FAAC not FG account.Any money in the FAAC must be shared based on the country constitutional revenue sharing formular not base on the wims and caprices of the president.

The subsidy is gone crooner messed up everything for himself right from day one

Had it been he was able to go about the business in a much more organized way, perhaps things might have taken a different turn for him

But the damage is done

A catastrophic and irreversible damage at that, and there's absolutely no way back for him

Fuel subsidy removal has not reduced the level of borrowing by FG in fact the level of borrowing under this government is higer than any preceding government in Nigeria. One of the reasons for borrowing is that foreign exchange that has spiralled out of the FG's control and inability to grow our export market.
Fuel subsidy removal was not solely meant to reduced borrowing but even meant to improve your credit rating i.e ability to borrow more for infrastructure and pay back. That is the reason why S&P and fitch upgrade our credit rating and economic outlook after subsidy removal.

It means creditors are now confident that whatever is borrowed is nit channelled to recurrent expenditure such as subsidy payment and salary payment but infrastructure.

You people always think as if governance is 2+2 =4

Let the project complete.
By the way, start by challenging what your governors have been able to achieve with it at their smaller domain which take little time to palpate first.

Okay I will do as u say, but do me this favour by mentioning what your own governor have being able to achieve in their smaller domain that has contributed immensely on her people aside from road construction, something tangible that reflects in the people he is governing.

Okay, the subsidy savings wetin you take am do? You just dey share am out to irresponsible governors while you're burdening the people with more loans. Dem take loan swear for una?
OK ... you just landed the real eagle ..... what were the governors supposed to do with the largesse? siphon it like fuel or use it to power the prosperity of the state for the people?

Can we now face the Governors and ask for the required soft landings?

Because I thought States were created to bring governance and development closer to the people
if the states are Ok, Nigeria will be OK .... Tinubu's thought!

this is where the crust of the matter is ... the savings went to the States! Yes, State allocations had tripled since Tinubu came in !!

and we don't know how to query our governors ..... of course, they are the most-powerful, most-protected, immured under Nigerian Constitution.

In all this, can we ask WHAT ARE THE GOVERNORS DOING to alleviate the suffering of their people?

Because, IF THE STATES ARE OK, NIGERIA WILL BE OK!!

You are absolutely correct. However, an attempt at amending the constitution regarding the revenue sharing formula should have have been made after the removal. This could have redirected the subsidy savings into more impactful areas for the masses.

Check each state allocation n it has more than tripled n u still blaming tinubu?

So u expect tinubu to b d one to come n do state projects for governor's?the problem with many Nigerians is that we don't read and we ain't ready to read

Ordinary google search would have enlighten u more
Honestly you have time.

Erm, that's what we have been doing for decades. It's why fuel is not 15 kobo as it was in 1981 ...plus inflation too.

Also, the issue is, there was no more money by 2022. August 2022, government revenue was being eaten by debt servicing. We were borrowing via ways and means and priniting money just to keep afloat, and the debt was growing massively. There was no cash for partial removals.

Tinubu failed to embrace the Angolan model in removing subsidy. How he graduated from Chicago remains a mystery to me.
Angolan method basically is the same partial subsidy removals we were doing over the years...just that they plan to yank off the bandage in 2028.

Also, by 2022, decades of keeping subsidy, among other things, had finally caught up with us. We were spending over 90% of the budget on servicing debt, and government was basically paying for the subsidy by borrowing, ways and means , and printing money.

It was hellish, there was no money for gradual partial removal again

Best time to have done this was 2012. Nigerians said no. Heck, 1993, we should have done it.

You people always think as if governance is 2+2 =4
Was the governance 2+2=4 when Tinubu was staging all forms of protests and smear campaigns against Jonathan government when it made an attempt to remove subsidy even when it was engaging the stakeholders in the industry unlike himself who only consulted with himself and veered off inaugural speech by saying, "Fuel subsidy is gone" ?

If subsidy removal is creating access for more borrowings and at same time making FG to dip deeper in debt then of what significance is its removal? You might say even the most advanced or developed nations are borrowing but are they witnessing epileptic power supply or blackout which has become the order of the day today?Taking a cursory look at some key economic indices:employment, inflation and foreign exchange rates today, Nigeria is in a sorry and debilitating state.
