The Abia State Police Command on Sunday said it has arrested a suspect captured in a viral video assaulting a woman, adding that he will be charged with assault and attempted murder.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the arrest was made on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, adding that the suspect, Agwu Ukpo, male, 37, is from Akanu Ohafia in Abia State.

The statement read, “Leveraging on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Abia Command, have apprehended the above-mentioned suspect, who was captured in a viral video assaulting one Amarachi Chiyere over a dispute relating to a pot of soup.”

The police said the case is currently under discreet investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), adding that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

The Command strongly condemned the act, describing it as barbaric and inhumane, and reiterating that such behaviour is unacceptable under any circumstances.

Members of the public were urged to desist from all forms of violence.

“The Command remains fully committed to ensuring justice is served in the state and that perpetrators of crime will be made to face the full weight of the law,” the statement added.

In as much as the man is a brutal and hostile being, he should be charged accordingly. But I will always say we all are humans. Our temperament is different. As a man if you know you have high temper, please avoid anything that will make you start having a back and forth with a woman. A woman will nag, abuse you so bad a times you lose your cool and do the unthinkable. At that moment you can't control your anger until the deed has been done. Please for christ sake.

Once you notice your woman is looking for trouble, just avoid her by all means., even if possible leave the house for her and vice versa. It's better the man or the woman sleeps outside at a family's place than to end up in a prison. Be wise. No matter how cruel that woman has behaved towards you, nobody will want to hear your story, everyone will defend the woman instantly. So to avoid 'had I know'' just avoid the woman at that moment.

I saw this video on Instagram last week and I could not afford to watch it again, it was heinous, barbaric and extremely wicked

That guy was demonically possessed and all he wanted was to kill that lad; for a pot of soup? No, I think he had other hidden agenda to take the lady's life, this was not about the pot of soup, I think its deper than that.

Now, where are all the women activist groups, in this election period they are cumbered with getting paid to support their political affiliation.
This guy should not see the day light for the rest of his life, he should be sued to rot in jail alongside the guy recording the incident

I hope the lady can recover from those deadly blows which could have broken her face angry

Above all, I don't trust NPF to do justice to this matter, if the guy has money he can walk free
