I know a true story of a visitor that mistakenly ate dog biscuit.

The last born of the family dropped the tray close to him to go fetch the key to the kennel, and when he reapppeared, lo and behold, uncle had dived in.

Many years ago I traveled to the western part of the country on holiday to visit my uncle. He wasn't married at the time and didn't usually cook, he gave me some money and asked me to buy food from a canteen in the street.

The woman served me white rice with palm oil stew. I was annoyed and asked why she hadn't told me beforehand that the stew was prepared with palm oil. However, that wasn't even the main issue.

As I was eating I noticed some particles in the food. My heart started beating fast because my brain immediately interpreted them as ticks. I rushed out of the canteen and vomited outside. The woman was both confused and frightened, so she came after me and asked what the problem was.
I told her that I had seen ticks in my food.


Since I was speaking English, she didn't fully understand what I meant by "ticks." To make myself clearer I explained that dog lice were in the food.

She quickly went back inside to inspect the food and returned, insisting that there was nothing like that in it. Still upset, I pointed at the particles. She and another woman who had come to see what was happening burst into laughter.

They explained that what I thought were ticks were actually locust beans.

That was the first time I had ever heard of or seen them. To be fair, they really did look like ticks in the food.


Sometimes simple misunderstandings can lead to embarrassing situations.

I will eat the food with satisfaction. I love their daughter deeply and I will do anything to impress my in-law. When got back home, I will go and drink half gallon of dry gin (ogogoro) to flush my belly. Yucks 🤤🤣😰. Thanks to my Lassa fever in-law that want to kpai mẹ all in the name of one yeye traditional food.

I guess this question is for the unmarried because what my parents-in-law served me when I visited was pounded yam with beniseed soup and plenty of chicken.
